Great caving experience, challenging but doable in a good dry environment.
Our guides were knowledgeable, funny and safety aware.
Use Bolt taxi to there, easist way although tram and walk is possible.

Een uur lang door de grotten struinen!! Met een gids (als je geen Hongaars verstaat dan krijg je een kastje dat je elke nummer kan intoetsen die hoort bij de plek waar je dan staat.
Hele mooie grot die eigenlijk steeds spannender wordt...maar dat moet je echt zelf ervaren
Goed te bereiken met de tram en laatste stukje met de bus. (Zoek de weg via google maps (openbaar vervoer kiezen)

Such a cool tour! We got rather worried when the bud driver didn’t know what the caves were but persisted with the Google Maps directions and found it no bother. Our tour guide was lovely and although she said her English wasn’t the best we understood everything she was saying. The caves themselves are beautiful and afterwards we felt like our bodies had been rejuvenated- something to do with the mineral rich atmosphere in the caves apparently! Considering the tour only cost us €6 I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting something a bit different on their travels

A proper caving trip! Read the clear guidance on the website as this is an accurate reflection of the trip. Some big walking passage, some hands and knees crawling, the occasional ‘on your tummy’, a ladder, and a bit of up and down climbing. Don’t book if you don’t like tight spaces or if you’re unfit. I was perhaps fortunate that I was with a great group that were up for the challenge.
The guide was knowledgeable and engaging, and was always in the right place to manage everyone’s safety at the points that required it. His English was great, despite often apologizing for it. The kit provided was good quality and my trail shoes were fine for this unusually dry cave.
Definitely do book on this trip if you’re up for an unusual adventure, and it’s also a great way to avoid the heat for a few hours.

A great option for hot days, especially during the summer (100F days). Great for families to spend the day doing something fun and adventurous. Overall, it was a great experience that had a little bit of something for everyone. It's a guided tour and we had an amazing, fun guide (ask for Victor). Our whole family loved it and the caves are really well preserved and give you the feeling that you are traveling back in time. We took the walking tour, which is suitable for all ages, strollers, and handicaps, but there's a different more extreme tour that looks really fun for those seeking a more adventurous experience. You need to book in advance (at least two days for the extreme one) and I definitely recommend bringing warm clothes since it's about 50F inside the caves.

Un po' lontano dal centro ( circa 5 km dal castello), noi abbiamo preferito il taxi per raggiungerlo. Presente audioguida in italiano. Si visitano cunicoli e grotte molto molto belle. Si acquistano biglietti in loco.

L'ho visitata perché avevo il biglietto compreso nella Budapest Card e altri impegni mi si erano cancellati.
Devo dire che se avete visitato altre grotte, allora non la troverete eccezionale. Io purtroppo avevo visto diverse altre grotte!
Un consiglio: se andate a fare la visita, a un certo punto ci sarà una salita repentina su una scaletta di metallo (si scende fino a 50 metri...prima o poi si deve risalire!). Vi verrà offerta una seconda opzione di tragitto. Prendete la scaletta solo se siete sicuri e siete in forma.
Devo dire che se avete visitato altre grotte, allora non la troverete eccezionale. Io purtroppo avevo visto diverse altre grotte!

I’m not sure I can say enough good things about what an awesome experience this was. We did this tour on a Tuesday the day after we toured the nearby cave (for which you can also purchase a joint ticket). There are audio tours available so make sure you request one when you arrive. I am the only English speaker in a Hungarian speaking family and although we forgot to get the audio tour the guide (learn from me!) maybe you’ll be lucky enough to get our guide who conducted the tour in both Hungarian and English seamlessly crowd sourcing one or two words and always called the children of the group to the front to be able to see the formation he was discussing. The tour was a good 90 minutes but it was a very large group. There is a bit of a climb on damp metal stairs (7 stories tall) and definitely not for the claustrophobic. The cave formations were impressive and lovely and it’s mind blowing to think this is all steps from a busy city. Pack a sweatshirt and wear good walking shoes and take lots of pictures. Also be ready with your dinner requests for the legend of the witches kitchen ;)

A Szemlô-hegyi barland élményszámba menô túravezetése után a Pál-völgyit is meglátogattuk, és ebben a hosszabb, látnivalókkal és szintkülonbséggel (!) tarkított barlangban is szuperul éreztük magunkat, informatív túravezetés, kalandos útvonal létramászással, utóbbi miatt érdemes elôre érdeklôdni hogy hány éves kortól ajánlott.

How much is it for 1 people for the normal tour please? I can only find it go €40 which is making me wanna get a 3 day Budapest card for €44 (?)

The ticket is not expensive, for 10 euros you get a ticket that allows you to enter both Palvolgyi and Szemlohegy caves. If you want to visit just one then it costs about 2000 HUF.

I tried calling and got a recording in hungarian. If my group has lots of adults who could carry the 2 year old, would that be ok? I know there are 2 kinds of tours to pick from - one easier than the other....so thats our plan

The tour is not for small children. We took the easier one, but it still had a part where we were climbing up on letters for 10 minutes. You cannot make it with a toddler.

The FAQ page on the website says that the age limit is 6-55. Are visitor ages actually checked?

No checking as far as saw.
I think it might just be to ensure people are physically fit enough as it is quite a workout involving crawling, climbing, shuffling etc.
I did it with bursitis on one of my knees. It was still loads of fun but I had to be careful throughout the tour not to ding my knee. I imagine if you are a bit stiff/unfit at any age you could enjoy it a lot less. Not being ageist - I am 53 and did better than my rather less fit 30-something daughter.

I am going to Budapest next month and am planning my trip. I saw that there are two possible tours in these caves. The normal ones that start a quarter past every hour and the adventurous tour. I know that this second tour starts in the afternoon on monday, wednesday and friday, but I can't find the exact time anywhere. Does anybody know at what time the adventurous tour starts?
