The Museum is very interesting, although it is little publicized, at least on the main tourism websites. It tells the history of medicine from the Middle Ages to the mid-19th century. At the end it features a small exhibition about space exploration in the USSR, with some original costumes and even stuffed animals that went to space. Access is easy and the ticket is very cheap. Worth a visit if you have time available.

Very cheap and quite big museum. Three floors with different kind of exhibitions. Staff was friendly and nice.

I absolutely loved this museum, there was so much to see! Arranged as a timeline through the history of medicine it starts off with a diorama of waxworks representing various aspects of medieval healthcare (which I thought was fun & one of my favourite bits), before becoming more traditionally museum-like with more actual objects and scientific equipment, ending with a space room which was far more interesting than I would have expected. It's very much one person's collection, making it slighly eccentric and extremely fascinating throughout. It was one of my favourite places to visit in Riga. There were also two contemporary art exhibitions on while we were there which were excellent and added a lot to the visit. Very highly recommended (tip: we thought it was closed because the big front door was closed and the entrance room looks quite dark from the outside, indeed the person before us thought it was so left, do try the door and it should just open!).

I did not expect to find such a fascinating museum in Riga. It was very interesting for me and my wife, considering that we are doctors. But my children, who are 13 years old, were also interested. Many exhibits, illustrations, and we were especially struck by the almost lively scenes of medieval Europe, with its attitude towards the mentally ill, the fight against the plague, alkymists, etc.

we love museums and this was no different. the highlight of this place is by far the iron lung, i don't know anywhere else near that you can see one! the top floor on space science was really unusual and interesting too.

This museum is one of the largest medical museums in the world. The vast exposition presents the development of medicine and pharmacology from ancient times.
Professor Pauls Stradins (1896-1958) did pioneering work on peripheral nerve injury, blood transfusion, and cancer treatment. He was the founder of the museum.
The museum was opened to visitors in 1961. It is located in a neo-Renaissance building completed in 1875 next to the Russian Embassy. On our visit, there was an interesting huge poster of Putin on the museum facade facing the Embassy.

If you're at all interested in science and medicine this was a great place to visit - the space medicine gallery was fascinating as were the galleries about early medicine and dentistry - quite an eclectic collection if stuff.

Paulis Stradins Museum for History of Medicine, ligger på Antonijas iela, öster om Rigas gamla stad. Utanför museet ser man stora hjärtan i olika färger. I 4 våningar kan man följa medicinens utveckling i världen och i Lettland. Myseet är synnerligen påkostat och mycket intressant att besöka.
