Die frei zugängliche Ausstellung ist informativ, man sollte aber definitiv die geführte Tour durch das ehemalige Gefängnis mitmachen. Sehr eindrucksvoll und auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.

We pre booked and turned up 10 minutes before the tour as advised, we waited in the reception for five minutes before we realised there was a note pinned to the hatch door as it had swung in over. We were to go through to the main hall and meet with our tour guide. The tour group was small only about 8 of us, anymore and you wouldn't have been able to appreciate the rooms, cells and corridors.
Our guide was both very informative and his jokes lightened what could have been a very dark and depressing experience. The building itself from the outside gives no hint of the horrors that unfolded therein. Inside the layout has not been changed to hide those horrors and should remain so as a memorial to evil that was committed by the Soviet invaders.
The tour lasted about an hour taking us through interrogation rooms, holding rooms, cells, the kitchen and exercise yard and execution room. There was plenty of seats along the way to rest and opportunities for photos. We were encouraged to go in the holding rooms and cells and imagine what the cramped, unclean and barbaric conditions held for those imprisoned within.
Very thought provoking and a reminder of man's brutality towards his fellow man in our not so distant past and more relevant than ever today.

Tragisk historie

Hvis man vil se dette museum for alvor, så skal man være på en guidet tur.
Ellers får man kun underetagen, som ikke består af meget andet end nogle oplysende plancher og breve - men som selvfølgelig giver et godt indtryk af sovjetkommunisternes totale undertrykkelse, henrettelser etc.
I mangfoldige år har bygningen været hjemsted for sikkerheds-og efterretningstjeneste, selvom der også har været andet brug af bygningen. Har været forladt siden 2007.
Udefra er det værd at bemærke, at der er tale om en ganske smuk art nouveau bygning.

A must see location

Towards the north of the city, this inconspicious building sits quietly as the local world goes by. Once inside, you instantly feel a step back in time with no modern conversions have been added. The guided tour is worth the €10 lasting just under a hour, you are taken into various rooms with running commentary that is both informative and respectful to the building history. Humbling at times, a not so long ago reminder of our modern history I would highly recommend

Interesting and sobering experience, lots of information and detail. They've avoided updating the building, leaving it very authentic, right down to the inconspicuous corner entrance.

Very very important museum. And interesting.
We had a marvellous guide. Serious, friendly, professional. He spoke English very well, and paused between sentences, so we could consume it all.
Book the guided tour.

5 star! 10/10! Truly an amazing enthusiastic guide who brought the building and experience alive. Very good English and very informative. My girlfriend wasn’t sure about going and she is so glad she did.

A fantastic look at the untouched past with a overall wholesome experience. Tour is 1hr with looks of pictures to be taken. Top of the list of things to do in Riga for solo or couples.

Frightening

We found this museum very interesting reminding us how awful it can be to live in a country that has been occupied by another. In this instance the Soviet occupation which happened after the second world war.

The 'Corner House' building was the home of the Soviet Unions notorious KGB and this place has a chilling story to tell. The tour costs €10 and these take place everyday and the guide we had was very informative as he led us through the various rooms and cellars were thousands of Latvians were tortured, died or were sent to Siberia.
There is a small museum at the start of the tour that is free to enter and contains a looped video of former inmates telling their stories with English subtitles.
If you have time in Riga this place is well worth a couple of hours of your time.

One hour tour with guide was an eye opener into what went on in this building and the guy who conducted it knew everything when it came to questions. It went at a steady pace and you could take photos at any point along the tour.
