We (60-somethings) camped here last summer, early July, in a travel trailer. It is an unbelievably gorgeous, peaceful spot. Sure, no hook-ups, but there is a dump station and water fill up. The showers leave something to be desired, but they get you clean, and I am used to showering at the Y, so no big deal. (We have an Airstream, so I could easily use my shower, but it's easier to use the camp shower than continually filling up with water.)
We used it as a base to explore the Downeast area, and we explored everywhere from Eastport (July 4th) to Cutler Coast hiking (down to the Bay of Fundy, completely deserted) to Machias to Lubec, to Campobello, etc. This year, we are going back for a week, and will just chill out at the campsite, with maybe a couple of side trips. But we snagged an oceanside (bay) site again.
Every campsite has a fire ring, and some have shelters over the picnic table.
Many campsites you can walk down to the bay. We had one site that was in a field, and one on the ocean, for a total of 5 days. The ocean front was preferable, because I love to smell the salt air. Our German Shepherd dog loved it because it was so big and private, we could play frisbee!
Mosquitoes are vicious. Bring bug spray and citronella candles. We got a Clamshell shelter for this summer, as we prefer to sit out without getting bitten.
You can dig clams here! My husband dug a bunch (I think it is a peck) and we had them for dinner one night. The rangers will rent you a rake and bucket (you get your deposit back.) This year, we got a giant pot to boil them in. (Here's a tip - soak them in cornmeal before steaming.) Also will serve as a lobster pot. Speaking of lobster, and dinner, don't miss Becky's Seafood, a food truck just outside Lubec. Everything is fresh and outstanding.
We are traveling two days to get here; I could easily find an oceanside campsite somewhere closer, but this place is magical. Firs, fires, salty air, solitude. Cobscook has it all.

I arrived for a one night stay for the last night of the season and from what I could see I had no more than half a dozen neighbours and the nearest was over half a mile away!
The majority of sites appear to have unique characteristics, whether in shape or down a small track from it’s parking spot. The vast majority offer a large degree of privacy.
Long drop toilets are regularly spaced around the campground which, largely, follows the outline of the large convoluted bay.
I walked around the entire campground which took around an hour and a quarter (helping myself to a couple of apples from a tree I passed along the way!), and it was obvious as to how well the place was maintained. The shower block provided a glimpse of ‘days gone by’ but was clean.
Whilst I was blessed to experience true solitude for the night I was there I would imagine that I‘d be equally happy if the campground was full.

This park does not have sewer, water, or electric, but the setting is gorgeous. If you don't mind, or even enjoy, dry camping, I can highly recommend this park. Sites were roomy with a lot of privacy. The park has a sewer dump and faucet to fill your fresh water tank, if needed.

This is a great spot if you can rough it without hookups or flush toilets. Beautiful scenery, private sites, hiking, starlit nights. There isn't much civilization around so pack everything you need for the length of your stay if don't want to drive a distance for a store. You'll also be out of touch by cell phone. It's all worth it!

The camping here sounds fine. For day use, don't bother. There are picnic spots, but the really nice ones can be reserved by groups, so your chances of getting one with a good view of the bay are nil during the summer. Plus, in dry weather, the place is darned dusty. Instead, drive past the state park a mile or two, and go to the public boat landing. We put our beach chairs out on the little gravel beach, had a great view of the bay, and a quiet afternoon.

My husband and I just got back from a short trip at Cobscook Bay State Park. We found this to be an AWESOME campground! It was so quiet and out-of-the-way, which we loved! We completely unplugged from our technology and thoroughly enjoyed the sounds of nature, rather than the sounds of our phones/laptops/television/etc.
The tent sites are immaculate! I loved how each had its own parking space, yet the actual campsite was down a path a little ways (from all the ones I saw). It was so private! No one could really see our site, and I loved how secluded it was.
The only con for me was the showers in the ladies room. I used the women's showers the first night I was there only to freeze my fanny OFF! Maybe I missed how to work the showers correctly (I don't think I did, though), and it seemed that when you pressed the button, you only got a blast of water for a few seconds. I had to continuously press that @#%@# button to keep the water flowing, and it was slightly warm water at that! The second and third nights there, I waited until after 8:00 and showered on the men's side. Their showers had a dial you could turn to make sure you got a continuous supply of WARM water. So, ladies, if you do stay there, wait until late at night, and shower in the men's section. You won't freeze your fanny off that way!!
Overall, this was an awesome spot to stay in, because there were some great hikes within a half hour (Cutler Coast), plus you're only about an half hour away from Campobello Island.
Great, quiet spot!! We will be back there again, and even have our tent site picked out. :)

I have gone to Cobscook for several years now and absolutely love this place. From the campsite I have seen seals. bald eagles, kingfishers, warblers, porcupine, red squirrels and chipmunks. The campsites are very well kept, and as stated, they are all a bit different. The pit toilets, for the most part are.... well.... pit toilets, but they are well maintained, and there is no monster living in them. The showers aren't bad but can get crowded (go early in the a.m, or after they clean them arouond 2 p.m) Water spigots are dispersed through out the park and are not at every campsite. I use a collapsible 3 gallon water jug and fill it up when ever I return from a daily excursions. There is NO CELL SIGNAL. If you need a cell phone or some other electronic device (except flashlight) you are missing the point.
There are some great hikes around the area. I recommend the Quoddy Head lighthouse where you can stand on the easterly most point in the US, then hike along the trails there. Another great hike is the Boot Cove trail where you walk through an arctic bog that are home to carnivorous plants, and then a cliff side walk that drops down to a quiet beach where you can usually see some gray seals, loons, and eagles.
A trip up to Eastport, and you can sit outside and eat lobster while looking at Canada and if you are lucky, see some porpoises playing.
Back to camping, BUY firewood and support the community, what falls around the campsite is usually damp and a pain to light. Not to mention that all the fallen wood around the campsite should be left as it's decomposition is important to the surrounding ecosystem. All that being said, this is a great campground, great staff, great aMinals :)

We tent-camped at Cobscook Bay. Each campsite is slightly different, so I can tell you about the one we had. Here are some details:
* Right by the water, but raised up from the water on a mini cliff, about 10 ft high
* The tide varies by 24 ft (according to wiki), so be careful about leaving kids in the bay. The water comes in quickly.
* Wild blueberry bushes on site
* Sightings of seals and other wildlife from the campsite
* Stone pit and metal grill for cooking. You have to build the fire on the ground.
* Wooden-log cabin lean to thing. It has a roof and three walls. Great for shelter.
* Two picnic tables
* Ample room for tent(s). You could probably get 2-3 tents on the lot.
* Park Rangers were great
* Close to great places to visit like Meddybemps lake, Acadia, and Canadian border towns if you bring your passport. We went to Calais for a night. They have a big grocery store and a McDonalds if you need wifi.
* Close to Moosehorn - great for viewing bald eagles.
So, that's the good news. Here's the negatives:
* Latrines instead of flushing toilets. It does not smell great in there. A latrine is basically just a whole in the ground with a raised toilet seat. This is not for the faint of heart.
* I believe there are showers but I imagine the facilities won't be great.
* The water spigots were centralized, so you have to walk to get water. The campsite we were at did not have water hook ups.
* None of our phones got a signal there. We barely had GPS. You should definitely take a printed map with you!!
* You can only buy wood bundles from 3-4 pm at the ranger's station.
Anyway, if you can get past the latrines and love camping, this is a site not to be missed. Before you go, I recommend reading the wiki site on Cobscook Bay. It will tell you more about the crazy tide there so you can be safe.

This is one of the best campgrounds I've ever come across. Since each site is unique, I'd suggest checking out a few before deciding. We loved site #45 (I think that's the right number, it's the one right by the turnoff for the exit), which had an insane view of the bay, but the site at the very tip of the point was gorgeous too.

There are a lot of pros to this campground at Cobscook Bay and really no "cons" but just some info to those who might have a different idea of this destination (as avid campers, we find any info at all helps!).
The things we really liked:
1) The bureau has done an excellent job of keeping this "natural" and not jamming in the sites like they will at most private campgrounds. We looked at a lot of sites here and rate the privacy as a 5 out of 5.
2) The wood available at the site is great - you get a decent size bundle for $3.50 as opposed to $5 and up at some places.
3) You are a short drive from Roos-Camp Park (US/Canada) and some other attractions (no close "towns" so plan accordingly)
4) We found a seafood place nearby for lobster which was fantastic ($3/lb under 1.9 lbs)
5) Even aside from the shoreline, the park itself is nicely scenic
6) Bathroom and showers were fine - decent hot water and only 25 cents for a shower
Things we weren't expecting:
1) There is no "beach" here or beach sand - the shoreline is treelined and rocky. You may have an obstructed view at the ocean sites.
2) We went in September after the season ended - we and some of our neighbors found the clam availability non-existent. Wondering if it's all "clammed out" by the end of the summer.
3) Fire rings are pretty small - very small for us because we like big fires and needed them on a couple of nights for warmth.
4) You won't see a tidal bore here - the tide change is impressive and worth seeing but just don't expect to see any kind of rush.
We found Cobscook to be worth the trip for sure - if nothing else you are on the ocean and you have your privacy which gives it 2 legs up over most campgrounds. Happy Camping!
