I'm glad some are giving this island only 1 or 2 stars. The fewer visitors the better. I grew up summering there. It was incredible. Surreal white sandy beaches. Imperfect beach tar roads and wonderful eccentric characters. I remember a bowling alley with pin kids. And this was in the 70's!
Stay away. Stop developing the place.

Horrible island. The opposite of cute. Awful. Hated it. Only cold weird food. Don’t go here. Ever. Felt like the beginning of a psychological thriller where the protagonist dies of boredom.

Went out on Casco bay ferry and visited 6 of many islands in the bay , Long Island was one of them if my mind services me well it has about two thousand permanent residents about the for the same in visitors in the summer, the ferry brings in visitors and permanent residents with supplies of all kinds .$16 round trip.

Along with several other islets, this relaxing, rustic, 908-acre (367.4-ha), densely settled island on Luckse Sound in Casco Bay is one of Maine’s newest towns (1993). Access is via Portland on a 45-minute Casco Bay Lines ferry or private watercraft. The island has a small library, one year-round variety store, one lobster dealer, and one high-season gift shop. A former general store, a former B&B inn, and a former restaurant have all closed. Most of its old and narrow roads are either paved or graded gravel. All are posted with a 20 mph (32 kph) limit; they’re suitable for bicycles, but the island has no bike rentals. After storms, its small, often rocky, sand-and-pebble beaches may be strewn with sea kelp and other maritime flotsam; access to some of them is difficult. A 125-acre (50.6-ha) conservation area has unmarked walking trails, abundant wildflowers, a beaver lodge, a cranberry bog, and a mixed hardwood and softwood forest. I love visiting this island in any season and I always bring a camera!

Good for beaches and a walk but no good for day trips as no real facilities on the island except for the very high season. Best if you're renting a house for a longer stay.
