Short hike, mostly flat except the stairs, steps. Very peaceful easy hike. When we went there were several areas with trees across the trail, you have to step over. The steps can be slippery. But the rewatd for making it to the falls is well worth it. It is mostly downhill on the way in and uphill on the way out. Bring water.

The walk to the Falls is about a mile and there were a few trees blocking the path but easily crossed. There are quite q few stairs to climb but doable. The waterfall was absolutely beautiful and well worth the walk!!

Moxie Falls is a beautiful 90-foot waterfall between Lake Moxie and Kennebec River, one of the highest in Maine. We took our dog here for a nice hike. There is a parking area along Lake Moxie Road and an easy 1-mile trail leads to an overlook at the top of the waterfall with excellent views. The hike is easy up to this point. To reach the base, it's a very steep climb down, but there are plenty of roots to hold on to. Once down, climb the rocks to go upstream. There are two nice cascades below the main drop that aren't visible from the top. There's a huge pool at the base of the main drop that makes an excellent swimhole. If you want to swim without the steep climb down, there are several swimholes along the creek upstream of the falls.

A beautiful tall waterfall in a gorgeous setting. I wouldn't call it a hike to the waterfall, but you walk along a fairly even trail (but there are some tree roots to look out for) for somewhere between 15 minutes to half hour depending on your pace. The scenery is lush and green, really pretty.
There are however a good number of steps to take if you want a photo from down below and you may need to catch your breath a few times on your way back!

What a gem. Our guide in Moosehead suggested this and we were not disappointed. Absolutely gorgeous. The walk is fairly easy but for someone who finds hiking difficult it will be a challenge when you get to the steps. It’s worth the trip though. Just beautiful.

This is a great place to take the entire family on a short hike. There are some steps as you get closer to the falls, but it’s a great view with lookout points near the falls.

We are seniors who summer in Maine, but spent seven months alone in 2020 due to the virus. We struggled to keep our spirits up and found exploring the state most helpful. As we read reviews of Moxie Falls, some sounded like we could easily do it but others sounded challenging. I intend to share our experience with a focus on the physical challenge.
Parking is limited. We got the last space when we arrived about 10am and folks were waiting for a space when we left before noon.
The sign does not indicate how far it is to walk to the falls, but my husband had googled it. The walk is supposed to be 1.7 miles round trip. The first 2/3 is a wide walkway and an easy walk. The last 1/3 is just a little rougher; there are roots and rocks on the path, plus some wooden walkways and stairways! MOST DO NOT HAVE A RAILING. At some points I just didn't feel sure footed, but took my time and it was fine. Railings would be a tremendous help for me. Some of the decks / walkways have STAIRS. I read one review that there are about 25 stairs...NO WAY! So I counted them on the way back and THERE ARE 91 STEPS. They are spread out over that last 1/3 of the hike in / first 1/3 of the hike out. It took us 25 minutes to walk in and we took our time. About the time the walk gets a little rougher, you'll start to hear the falls in the distance. It took less than 20 minutes to walk out.
We saw lots of children and dogs. We saw backpacks with small children in them. We saw a couple strollers...not something I'd encourage. We saw a few walking sticks / canes - this is a great choice for folks like me. BUT able bodied folks will find this a very easy walk / hike.
There are two really good view points. The first is the multilevel falls and it was incredibly beautiful with the foliage and the sound of flowing water! The second view point has a couple decks over the big drop. The water rushes here and it's impressive.

A pretty popular easy hike to get to the falls, lots of people visiting when we were there with dogs and kids both. Hike is all on flat ground other than the stairs to get down to the viewing tower, which is probably 50-75 wooden steps total. We didn't notice mosquitoes as other reported, and I didn't see much poison ivy either.
You can actually swim both above and below the falls, but beware the water is cold. So, if you plan to swim go very early in the afternoon when the sun is directly overhead so the water is not shaded by the surrounding trees. There is a trail off to the right, just before you get to the stairs which will take you where to swim on the upper falls. We didn't try to find the lower area, but read online there is one which is more secluded and hidden. There is no place to change clothes or use the bathroom, so plan accordingly.

This was a beautiful hike although a very long hike and do not think this is a 15 minute mile, because it is more like a half an hour mile depending on your stamina. Towards the end of the hike there are tons of stairs this is certainly not handicap accessible. Going down wasn't too bad but coming up was very difficult please keep this in mind as you hike to the beautiful Moxie Falls

Super quick little hike on a well-worn path to the falls. The trail has great tree cover from start to finish and my active grandparents had zero problems completing the hike. The trailhead is easily spotted with signage from Lake Moxie Road, though not located accurately on Apple Maps. Definitely not handicap accessible but kid and elderly-friendly. Great view and family-friendly hike.

Hello, is the water still running on moxie falls now? It's pretty dry here and I want to know before we go! Thank you.

Is there a visitors center? If so, is it open on Sundays? To the best of your knowledge is there any particular day of the week on which I should avoid going?
Thank you ;)
