If you happen to be in the Bingham, Maine area, I recommend that you consider stopping along Route 201 and investigating this historic trail and markers about this significant figure (Benedict Arnold) during 1775 and his expedition with 1,100 men to Quebec to battle the British regular army.

The drive down this highway from Quebec City to Bangor Maine is a long days ride. The natural beauty taken in along the way, as well as the destination at each end, makes the drive worth while. Thinking back on Benedict Arnolds efforts on behalf on the Patriot cause (before he TURNED) in making this trek, even though his campaign was met with defeat shows how he persevered in his duty.

Heading South from Quebec into Maine we drove one of the highlight drives of our 3000 mile trip - US201 the Old Canada Highway used by native Americans and by Benedict Arnold when he led the doomed assault on the British in Quebec. The road runs beside the Kennebec R and a series of lakes for about 50 miles and is oh so pretty. The Forks and Wyman L are highlights. Turned E at Skowhegan (two rivers very pretty) and headed to Bangor for the night - easy reach of Acadia for tomorrow.
