If driving from Woodstock to Stockbridge, definitely take the Mohawk trail from Shelburne Falls to Williamstown. Famed for Fall foliage, it would be pretty at any time of the year (although I think part of it is closed mid-winter). A scenic drive, with an impressive hairpin bend. Definitely a lot more interesting than the interstate road.

New England is famously known for its' incredible fall foliage and when the foliage is at peak color, it is truly amazing! The Mohawk Trail is an old trail that has modern meaning for those interested in taking a road trip to see some magnificent views. Along the way, your trip can be punctuated with stops for a picnic lunch, antique hunting, pumpkin picking, apple pie shopping or cider drinking. The pinnacle of the Mohawk Trail is a beautiful panorama of vibrant colors!

I wasn't expecting such a pleasant drive. The hairpin turn was something. I wish we had made the effort to see the Hoosick Tunnel.

The Mohawk Trail is such a beautiful drive. Beautiful vistas as far as the eye can see. We stopped at the Wigwam Western Summit for a coffee with the most beautiful view. This is the second time I have been. It was all green and lively, but I liked it better in the fall. They colors are breathtaking. The people at the store are very friendly and helpful. Take your time, sip your coffee and enjoy the scenery! It is a very romantic spot! One of these days I will stay in one of the cabins. It is a must see.

My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful sunny-day drive through the Mohawk Trail. We began in North Adams and drove to Greenfield, stopping at the Wigwam Western Summit, Whitcomb Summit, Bissell Covered Bridge, Bridge of Flowers, Salmon Falls, and Glacial Potholes. While the colors are a bit late this year, we encountered patches of trees with nice colors - particularly at Whitcomb Summit. There were no crowds at any of the stops - we made the drive on Friday, 8 Oct 21.

Great place to unwind and relax by the rocks and water,bring your non slip shoes to climb around a find a quite lil chill spot,or you can also picnic there they have grills and tables..not sure how much it costs during the weekend but its free during the week

We drove the Mohawk Trail round trip twice from Shelburne Falls going west and east bound on four different days. Its hilly and curvy features has a lot to offer in terms of varying picturesque sceneries. From a view of the Switzerland of America on a sunny day, to fascinating wind turbines, rocky creek streams, many portions with tree canopies, a car length visibility of the road ahead when driving in thick fog to getting excited seeing a black bear crossing 3-4 car lengths in front of us approximately a mile before the hairpin turn towards North Adams on the way back to Shelburne Falls (it happened in seconds and without expecting to see wild life while driving, my husband’s phone was not ready to snap a picture), and more!
The towns along this scenic byway has several natural attractions as well.

Drove from Williamsburg toward upstate Vermont. Beautiful drive. Great leaf peeping. Definitely recommend.

I have not been on the trail for a few years, I am looking forward to taking my daughter and her children to explore the fossils and the hairpin turn, the grandchildren are into geology and this trail has a lot to see, they love natural beauty and are excited to do this during the summer, we are all into hiking and seeing all that the trail offers, we hope to stay over night, so we can slowly explore the area. Great place for many different likes, anyone who goes needs to check out all the trail offers, food, shopping and outdoor experiences. Cannot wait!!!!!

we would like to go to Boston and do the mohawk trail also any areas of interest .the Appalachian trail would also be a thought to do some things by train

The Mohawk Trail is a state highway, MA 2. I have driven it many times. The best time to drive it is in October during fall foliage, but it is popular with leaf peepers, so expect traffic. The worst time to drive it is during winter storms when snow and ice can slow the trip. From Greenfield to Williamstown (or reverse) could take a full day only if one spent a lot of time on hiking trails or other attractions along the route; otherwise, it is usually no longer than 2 hours. Berkshire County, MA has many inns and other fine places to stay, but tastes (and wallets) do vary.

The scenery in the fall sounds great. We plan to be there in early October (around 1st to 8th). Will we get to see good fall colors? Are the roads really busy with lots of other tourists or is the drive still enjoyable without too much traffic?

The foliage this year (late October 2016) is particularly STUNNING all across Massachusetts and New England; best and most vibrant color we've had in years. Traffic is not too bad. When you get way out to western Mass, it is one lane for the most part, and there are tourists taking in the scenic beauty, but lots of places to pull off and rest/explore.
