Walking the Hiking Club trail. Autumn 🍂 colors were excellent as well as the temperature which was perfect for hiking. Only draw back was the occurrence of a rain shower near the end of the hike.

We stopped in to Lake Carlos state park to check out the hiking trails.
We drove to the parking lot by the beach. There is a small beach with a changing house. We took the trail around hidden lake. It was pretty nice and well marked. There was a small hill or two, but it was mostly flat.

Spot 141 back in & electric. $30 for spot, $7 for on line booking & $7 park fee; $6 for wood. Had a good view of lake. Nice evening with rain. Had a shower house but did not use. Went for a 30 min walk through campground & short trail before leaving. I’ld stay again.

If in the Alexandria area, it is a nice drive. We went for a hike, it has decent hike trails system. There are campground and a swimming beach. A bit above average of wildlife sightings. The other advantage to this one it is close to other activities, winery, restaurant and brewery.

Hiked the 2.9 hiking club trail on 4/21. The trail is moderate due to the hills and length. There was an area of standing water on the trail near the parking lot. I would start hiking the trial going toward the lake.

We stayed in the lower campground, situated right on the lake with its sandy bottom and clear water. The place was very popular for people with boats and also for people with children and bicycles, as the campground road was hard surfaced. Even though it was hot, there was usually a nice breeze off the lake.
The rule, which is strictly enforced, is "one camping unit per site". In addition to our small camper, we had an old tent that we were using as a screen tent, and we were told to take it down. Our neighbors had a Barbie tent where their little girls kept their toys -- they had to remove that. However, you can have a camper and two vehicles if they will fit on the gravel. Plus you can have a boat and a screen tent on the grass. The sites are small and close together with no bushes between, so don't expect privacy here!

I decided to take a last-minute camping trip and Lake Carlos was within a few hours so I thought I'd give it a shot. I hadn't spent much time in the area previously so I didn't know what to expect. I pulled into the state park around 6 PM and was able to reserve a spot in the lower campground. The lady helping at the desk was super helpful and informed me of all park rules and added in a few of the cool things the park offers. The campground was pretty busy, but people still kept to themselves enough so I didn't feel bothered. Everyone was quiet by 10 PM.
I thought it was cool that people who had boats could just pull them up on the beach for the night. The bathrooms and showers were nice. The boat landing was nice, there were kayaks and canoes there to rent.
I was a little disappointed in the fishing, but that isn't a knock against the park. It's also unfortunate that the invasive species have infested Lake Carlos so badly. A good reminder to wash and drain your boats.

While I was staying at Carlos State Park it was definitely a time to remember. I now bring my family there every summer. It has lots of programs for the kids where they learn and have fun. My kids come back from these programs raving not only about having a great time but also about what they learned. I definitely recommend.

Lake Carlos is very clean and beautiful. The beach area is really nice and the campground on the lake has a nice sandy bank to play and relax. The upper campground is half wooded and are not too tightly spaced. The facilities are kept up and clean. Convenient showers on both campgrounds which is really good for families. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
