St Croix state park
2021年4月
Decided to drive from those cities for the day and check out park. This park is the largest in Minnesota. It is getting a little annoying to go to these parks and the ranger isn’t there. Yes I know it’s covid. The signs are not very helpful. We wanted to hike and got turned around a couple of times. The park is really big and if you have time maybe you could drive around but we were only here for the day. Finally got to the water and the river bluff hike. This was one of the most frustrating parks as far as the map goes. The paper map vs road vs map on the trail were all different!!!!!! So confusing. Had no idea how long it was. Just makes hiking not fun. We started down by the river which was nice but you end up back on a trail that’s flat and prairie like? We did go through an old CCC camp which was interesting. This must be a popular park because they have 215 campsites. We were here on Easter weekend and nobody was here. Will not come back just because of such confusing roads and maps with no ranger. Yes I know covid.

River is a must
2020年7月
Camped at walk-in 57. Isolated but a very short walk from the walk-in parking lot. Beach at Lake Clayton was clean, sandy and shallow. Great for kids. We kayaked down the St. Croix from Little Yellowbanks back to the Riverview Campground. It took us 1 hour. Very lazy trip with no rapids and mostly sandy bottom between 4-6 feet deep. Awesome trip. Unless you take two cars you will have to find a way back to Little Yellowbanks to retrieve your vehicle. The maps regarding this walk are incomplete. Luckily we ran into some folks with insider info. There is an unmarked spur between the tip of the Sundance Trail and St. Johns Rd. The walk takes 1 hour. We found the bugs at the park were run of the mill (with the exception of my 1 hour solo hike back to Yellowbanks. Bring your real deal bug spray on that trek).

Fire tower, horse trails, hikes, river views and canoeing
2019年10月
I went here with a friend and as you enter the park, i was surprised the visitor center was closed on a Sunday, leaving a self service station. When you first enter, you drive through a lot of area which must have been clear cut a few years back, kind of strange. We wound our way through a few overlooks, the water was very high at most of the creeks and rivers. The Kettle River was over it's banks and was impressive to see the flowage. This is a really big park and we hiked a bit but drove through most of it. The highlight of what we saw was the hike up the old fire tower to expansive 360 degree views up and down the St. Croix river valley. It would be great to come back here and drop a canoe in or enjoy some longer hikes through the woods. Honestly, not the most scenic of the state parks, but nice to get away and be in nature.

Loved It
2019年9月 • 好友
This state park is amazing. We camp all over in state parks and the wild life here was awesome! Many nights we heard coyotes howling! There are three great camp grounds in the park. The lodge has wifi which I needed for homework as I am in a master's program. That was huge. You can canoe. The fire tower is cool. The bathrooms are clean. Water is hot. The Old Logging Campground is where we stayed and the shower house is really new. The camp sites were large with plenty of trees. The bike path is newly paved and was a beautiful walk. All the trails were amazing. Yes there are bugs but guess what you are outside! Bugs are a part of camping and nothing can be done about that. Plenty to do here for anyone, especially if you love the outdoors. It is a very neat state park. They offer many programs during the non winter months for learning and entertainment. They have a lodge you can go into if it rains. The CCC history is also very neat. I would recommend!

Very nice park on the St.Croix river.

The park it's self is really nice with great views of the river. Perfect for canoe and kayak trips and small motorized boats. It can get a little crowded.

Generators & blue collar party crowd
2019年8月 • 夫妻情侣
Large, low wilderness park, ruined by generators running all night, loud partying at more than a few sites, booming loud music and rap after 10pm & throughout evening. In Old Logging Trail campground. Don’t bother coming here if you want a real stat park experience. This place needs patrols and an after hrs complaint line. Won’t be back. Worst State Parks experience I’ve ever had.

Jack Pine Cabin
2019年8月
We had to do some work nearby and had a hard time finding a hotel room for less than a few hundred dollars. Camping facilities were filling up fast as well. We were lucky to find Jack Pine Cabin open for the night we needed. This is a sweet little cabin with a rustic feel, but a few amenities if you don't want to totally rough it. There are 10 windows in this square cabin, so plenty of fresh air and ventilation made it comfortable. There's a gas stove/oven, small fridge, some basic pots, pans, utensils. There is a flush toilet and sink in the cabin, so you don't have to hike out in the middle of the night. Bring your own bedding or sleeping bags as well as pillows. A great alternative if you need a place to sleep and don't want to spend and arm and a leg.

Beautiful park, but lack of things to do
2019年7月
My sister and I tented here and it was our first camping trip without our parents and rest of the family. It went really well because we spent most of our time relaxing at the campsite. There are tons of trails among the park, but many are not labeled or marked properly, way too long for a day hike, or completely ridden with bugs. If there were some better marked trails and less bugs this place would’ve been a lot more enjoyable. We did do the biking trail and it has been freshly paved. Leaves right from the campground and that was actually really awesome because it was smooth and you’re moving fast enough that the flies and gnats can’t keep
Up with you. Another thing that you can do here is the fire tower. But you have to be determined to see it because the 12 mile drive with 6 of it on a windy dirt road can be a bit daunting in a small car. But the view at the top of the tower was 100% worth it.

If you’re tenting and don’t necessarily need electric I recommend site 122. But if you’re someone who does need power, site 140e is good too.

Camping
2019年6月 • 家庭
Have been coming to this park for 15 Years. It’s our favorite park. Very scenic, bike trails, canoeing, hiking and naturalist programs are always great. We started coming when my eldest was a baby. My children grew up on camping. This park always started off the camping season! Beware of bears though. They know where and how to get your food!

Not many campers, but lots of bugs!
2019年7月 • 家庭
We camped here in July, and we saw all the reviews about the bugs before we came. And it was no joke! We camp all the time, and there were probably more bugs here than any other campground we have been to in years. Now, that being said, you can’t blame the campground or the staff for the bugs. It’s nature. They can’t control what types of little creatures love their area, but if you can’t deal with bugs, you could be pretty miserable. We did finally figure out that if you wore a hat when you were biking, the gnats wouldn’t get in your face as much. We also learned that if you have electricity and a fan, just turn that sucker on and the bugs won’t bug!
We pretty much had the place to ourselves for the majority of our stay. We enjoyed the Lodge. My kids stayed in there for a long time making up puppet shows. We also took the long bike ride to the swimming beach one day which was nice. The fire tower was probably the highlight of the trip for the ones in our group that weren’t freaking out at the top!
We enjoyed our time. You can’t let bugs get in the way of your experience!
