we was considering weather to go here or somewhere else. we went on a Sunday and it wasnt crowed and the water was at just right leval. we took a raft so there was plenty of room for our ice chest and snacks. if you want to go on the 12 mile trip, you will need to be at the raft rentals by 11;00 am. we used Peytons place an they were very friendly.

We rented a raft and spent several hours floating the river. The river is beautiful and scenery is great. There are a lot of people drinking, but outside of being a little louder than others they were not causing any problems. Just people having fun! All ages were having a great time. The river was clean and the temp was perfect.

The river i give 5 stars, Eagle Bluff Resort is 3 stars. Here are both reviews (i didn't see a TripAdvisor for the resort).
Illinois River –
We floated the Illinois River last weekend and loved it. This was our first time to float it and we used a tandem Kayak from Eagle Bluff Resort. We had a blast. However, if you are looking for a quiet nature trip, this might not be for you because it was very very crowded (nonstop line of people). Some things to note before going – there are a ton of outfitters but for the actual floating it seemed like their prices are about the same. Read reviews online and you might mainly focus on staying accommodations, since the float and equipment is all basically the same. Most of the trips are either 6 miles or 12 miles. Your exact rout will depend on the resort as it looks like they all put in different places and usually you float down and end at your resort. We barely paddled and did 12 miles in 5 hours. However, if I had a raft and we did zero paddling then I would want to just do 6 miles. Alcohol rules on the river are pretty strict. 3.2 beer only and no glass. It is a fine per alcohol drink out of compliance (including jello shots, per shot). There was a cop at the drop off for the river so I assume this is enforced. The river itself is about as easy to navigate as it comes. Your main obstacles are people and a little bit of dead trees in the water. For how many people there were, the river actually seemed pretty clean of trash. The current is gentle but flows decent. Depth of water will of course depend on when you are there. We found that most places I could touch no issue (I’m 6’4”) but a few places were over my head. We had to drag the boat in shallow spots 2 or 3 times. We ended up swimming a large chunk of the trip, just hanging onto the kayak (it was hot!). The scenery was pretty decent. Most people out there are on rafts, but there were also kayaks, canoes, and even just inter-tubes. It was a great place to people watch, as most people spend all day drinking.
I will do a warning for parents – It was 12 miles of drunk loud people. Some of the language was not appropriate for children and some people blasted music that was not appropriate for children. Some people would tone it down when kids were close but a lot wouldn’t. I noticed Sunday as we were packing up camp that the people on the river were mostly families and the river seemed a lot quieter then. If I was bringing kids, I would do a Sunday and not a Saturday.
We had a lot of fun going down the river and will definitely go back! Best place to float in OK after Lower Mountain Fork by Broken Bow and the best party river in this part of the country.
Eagle Bluff Resort:
My friend and I stayed at Eagle Bluff Resort this past weekend. The website had some good information but I was honestly a little confused by making a first time reservation on it (mainly about the pricing). I called and they were very helpful at booking. I booked a campsite for 2 people and kayaks. Total was $90. It was $5 extra per person for the kayaks but they took a little bit off for paying in advance. The good thing about Eagle Bluff is that if you have a large group, you can book and then everyone can pay separately. I also liked that you paid one flat fee for camping and floating, and unlike some places they do not charge per car. Note that camping on weekends is a 2 night 2 person minimum. I arrived a little after 9 on Friday evening. The office stays open until 10. Check in was a little slow because there was a long line, but was quick once I got up there. They make each person wear a wrist band. My friend got there a little later and checked in separate to get hers. If you get there after 10 you can check-in in the morning. We stayed in the family campground. Overall the grounds are not bad. I noticed that not every spot had a table, but ours did. They do not have fire pits everywhere, and none have grills. I think you can rent them from the office (we brought our own grill). Some people were close together but luckily we were not, and had decent space. It was super-hot and humid, even after the sun went down, although I cannot blame the resort for that. Bring bug deterrence, they were out in full force. Bathrooms – were nothing to write home about and one of the reasons I’m not rating the resort as high as I would. The ones in the campground were very nasty. I did notice that I think they spray them down every morning but guests made them very messy very quickly. The showers were private, where you can lock the door and have it all to yourself. However, the hot water did not work at them (I was so hot I was not complaining too much). The next night we took showers up by the office. These were also clean in the morning but by night were gross. However, they had hot water. These were not open Sunday morning however and probably closed when the office did. Check in for the river Saturday was very slow. I think this was mainly because everyone in front of us were not organized. When we got up there it was very quick to check us in (we had already paid and had wrist bands. We then had to go inside and wait in another line. Finally we were on the bus and the driver was great. We had a blowout on the way to the drop off and had to wait about 15 mins for another bus. The new bus driver was even better. I did not go into the “late night camp” so I cannot comment on this part of the resort. The resort has a restaurant/bar, but we did not go there either. It didn’t look bad though. Swimming at the resort was average. The landings were not bad and was deep enough to relax. It is also a decent place to fish for catfish (not bass) early morning before it’s loud. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. It was very hot and humid so we might try a cabin or hotel next time. There is electricity at some campsites so you can hook up a fan or something, but it costs more. Fun weekend!

At the last minute, my family decided we would like to take a float trip down the Illinois River. We rented a 3 person canoe from Falconhead. The metal fatigue on this boat was insane. The pressure of the water in the river would make the bottom of the boat pop up. When that happened, the cooler would slide to one side or the other and the canoe would tip over! There were several patches in the canoe where it had been repaired. The river itself was nice, but it was a LONG 12 mile trip. Don't waste your money at this outfitter. Find someone who rents better equipment.

I have been doing this float trip since I was like 10 and I'm 50 now! Sharing it with my kids is a wonderful tradition to pass down. I definitely love the rafts much better than the canoes tho.

While down at Lake Tenkiller, we decided to float the Illinois River and OMG, we had so much fun. We went on the 12 mile float trip and had a blast. There is a small island in the middle at the 6 mile mark that you can get off and party a little. There were people camping on the river. It was a blast.

The Illinois River is beautiful. The water is generally very clear, and there are many places that are great for family swimming. The water is spring fed, so it is cooler than you would think and was refreshing on a hot summer day. We did a six mile trip, and we were ready to be done. It took us about five hours, including some stops for swimming and a snag with a sinking kayak. (That was an outfitter issue, not a problem with the river, so that won't impact my rating.) I can't imagine doing the 12 mile trip, unless you are a hard core kayaker. That would be WAY too long for a family trip. We went on Labor Day Weekend 2013 and ran into some rowdy people, but everyone was fully clothed and very pleasant. Drinking is permitted, so as we got further down the river, some groups seemed louder, but overall, people were awesome. I knocked it down a star, because the flooding in early summer 2013 knocked down a lot of trees that have created some water hazards. There is one tree that is blocking at least 3/4 of the river near the power lines. It made navigating challenging and could set up a bad situation in some cases if someone got stuck the wrong way under a tree. Your outfitter is really important, so be sure you research them carefully. Overall, this was a really fun trip with a group of families. The rapids were not very strenuous, but the river was only at 5.5. I could see it being a different ride if the water was higher. I recommend this trip highly.

I had a lot of fun on the river canoeing. It took us about five hours. We took the second longest trip offered. It was a workout, but so much fun. It was so very pretty to see the mountains.

I loved floating the Illinois River as a kid some 40 years ago.
We went back last Friday. THe water was somewhat low, and a few times we had to get out. The river was slower than I remembered it as a kid.
But we still had a great time. We tied our three rafts together, and enjoyed a slow drift down. Not dangerous at all, this particular time. We did go on a Friday, and we saw no outrageous or obnoxious behavior. Everyone was great. I highly recommend doing this with friends and family!!!
