Went here during fall, the change of leaves is amazing, the museum has plenty of area to walk and enjoy a small picnic. The Bonsai exhibition is great to see, the main building was closed due to covid. The park has plenty area to enjoy with the family especially the columns in main area. No fee to enter.

Love the Arboretum. It can get pretty crowded and you need to pay attention to the operating hours since they open late on some days.

We love strolling through the different flower gardens and the pathways in the forest. You can take strollers on the paved paths but not on the garden paths. Nice trip!

I've lived in the DC area for over 15 years and just discovered this hidden gem. We visited the Bonsai and Penjing Museum, the Capitol Columns (relocated from the Capitol after a renovation there), the herb garden, the Asian gardens, some of the trees in the grove of US states and even strolled down a path to the Anacostia River. Our only regret is that we didn't bring a picnic as there are so many nice spots to lay out a blanket and enjoy the splendid surroundings. This Arboretum is also accessible by public transport (metro and bus). I ca wait to go again as there is so much to see there.

We decided to go to the arboretum on the spur of the moment. Be sure to take sunscreen/umbrella and water with you for an extended visit. We also used a ride share service when a car would have made the visit more flexible. Some amazing insects, beautiful plantings, and birds. Plan on time here. It’s big and worth wandering around a bit.

This place is a great hidden gem to get outdoors and see some beautiful open spaces and plant life. They gave great exhibits, easy parking and best of all it’s free!

There is so much to blame for COVID, and maybe some of it has taken a toll on our National Arboretum, but the disrepair of the grounds looks to have been longer than 13 months. With a budget of well more than $11,000,000 one should easily expect that the grounds would be tidy and neat and not look untouched from regular maintenance. The Bonsai Garden is closed because of the virus, which was a disappointment, but understandable and it does not count to this review. The state of disrepair in The Grove of State Trees is embarrassing. Dead branches, fallen trees and stumps litter the Grove. Many of the trees are not identified, and are so sparse, it could be called anything but a grove. The azaleas and magnolias were in full bloom and beautiful. This is in a naturalized area, so no maintenance is not as obvious. Signage is almost nonexistent and difficult to follow when it does appear. Expectations for our National Arboretum should be reevaluated. It is certainly a sad state for a US National Arboretum.

It is hard describe our disappointment with USNA. Although Federally funded, and supported by leading horticultural not-for-profits, the grounds of the Arboretum are a horrific mess. No doubt, the pandemic will be blamed, but the USNA leadership needs to answer up for its mismanagement of this important park. Every element was underwhelming, or worse. Unkempt is too kind. There are thousands of county parks, throughout our nation, that are more worthy of your visit than USNA. Don’t be misled by its title...

For a National Arboretum, it was disappointing. It was very unkempt and sad to say no one was there to clean up the exhibits they did have open. NO ONE available for questions either. It's more of a regular park than anything. Not spectacular to say the least. The bonsai and herb exhibit were closed which was why I wanted to go. I had to search for the Asian collection and still didn't find it. ONE restroom for the 400 + acres!! It's a good drive-thru park which won't take long at all. Could be a good biking park. Disappointed.

Lots of walking and cars driving through. Lots of people there also. Mostly masked. Crowded for the most part. Plants were not in bloom.

Whenever you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place to go! I go here when i want to escape and meditate to become one with nature.
