Belize City To Sleeping Giant

Recently returned from a trip to Belize. We used Belize Shuttles, and our driver Cameron was fantastic. He stopped at the grocery store so that we could grab a few items before heading out into the middle of nowhere! He also shared countless stories and facts about Belize. Was prompt and waiting exactly where they said the would be and everything about the booking and payment process was very easy to navigate.

A great travel experience

Josh went out of our way for us. Our flight landed early and he came as soon as we called. The whole journey was great - he even found out we were hungry and took us to us food. He was lovely and friendly and made our journey to Belmopan absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend Belize shuttles as everything was easy and I would happily use them again!

Worth the Belize Expertise!

Troy was our driver from Belize City to Placencia and also from Placencia to Belize City. We didn't want to rent a car, since it was our first time in Belize, and weren't sure about driving in a foreign country. Troy was great, and obviously experienced in making the drive from BZ to Placencia (he told us he sometimes makes the trip 4 times in a day!). He drives fast, but everyone does in Belize, and he really knows the roadway. On the way there, we had a private transfer and stopped at a grocery in Belize City and for a pit stop in Dangriga. Troy told us a lot about Belize... we're really glad we did this instead of taking a puddle jumper, because we got to learn so much from Troy.

On the way back, we booked a shared shuttle leaving from Placencia at 6:00 am, but ended up being the only passengers. We stopped for a pit stop in Dangriga, and got Johnnycakes at the gas station (highly recommended for a yummy breakfast! We made it to the airport by 9:20, with plenty of time to spare for our 12:10 flight.

If you don't mind a fast drive, take the shuttle and see more of Belize!

We used Belize Shuttle Service twice. Once from Belize City to Placencia,Belize and Ryan was our driver. Ryan was informative and really made the trip enjoyable. On the way back we used Belize Shuttle Service from Belize City, to Chetumal. This time Tasita was our driver and once again a very enjoyable trip. If you do not want to take the buses or are unable to take the water taxi. I recommend Belize Shuttle Services. The vehicles were as described on their site.

Friendly, responsive and on-time service

Belize shuttle was great. Vehicle was clean and well maintained. Communication by email prior to our trip was easy and very responsive and the driver was early for our shuttle from Dangriga to the airport. Additionally, the driver made some adjustments in his schedule to give us a little extra shopping time on the way to the airport. I'd defintely go with these guys again.

We booked a triple ride online from San Ignacio a few days ahead of time and our driver arrived 10 minutes and we were on our way! He was super friendly and even though we were driving through very heavy rain, we felt safe with him behind the wheel! We got to the airport even earlier than expected and it was a great, low stress way to end our trip.

You should know before booking- Also known as Belize Shuttles and Transfer
2016年8月 • 家庭
I regularly use Trip Advisor to make decisions about our trips, but haven’t contributed, up until now. We were able to make so many good decisions using TA and the reviewer’s information that I knew I needed to begin paying it forward. I can’t say enough positive things about Belize, its beauty, diversity, and the people- it truly comes down to the people making a good thing even better. Most everything about our trip was wonderful, from San Ignacio Resort, Belize Nature Travel, Guava Limb, the caves and jungles (wrote reviews). The remarkable thing is that we can say this even when we were there during the week Earl hit Belize and the second half of our trip was re-written (no island get away- this time). Thankfully it wasn't as destructive as it could have been and no one lost their life. While we are thankful for so many wonderful experiences and people, there is one encounter that was the needle in the haystack of our otherwise wonderful vacation.
When I initially wrote a review on this one experience I probably had a lot of emotion showing in my account, which is not always the best way to share something. But 'paying it forward' is equally important when a not so favorable experience is shared- so people can make informed decisions. I understand that TA has guidelines that must be used when reviews are written and agree they are important, from the users perspective as well as the business perspective. So I am going to relay our experience as clear cut as possible. I really hate focusing on negative things, but equally don't like what was done to us.

The only bad experience was our shuttle to and from the airport with Belize Shuttle and Transfers (also known as Belize Shuttle- same website but listed differently on TA). Our family, 12 of us ranging in age from 16 to 76 yrs arrived and were picked up by this shuttle service. We booked several months prior to our arrival, it was known there were 12 of us with lots of luggage, the pics represented and we were told vans were newer, good AC, and there would be no problems carrying our luggage.

This was not the situation when we arrived. The van was old, little to no AC, van looked like something you would see in a junkyard in Texas. We were told that the van that was 'supposed' to be picking us up had broken down and this is why they sent this one and another vehicle to carry our luggage for the 2+ hour journey to San Ignacio. The problem with this... is that we learned (from a person who works at the Shuttle Company) that actually they had another call and sent the newer van (meant for us) to do a run to Placentia, since it is a longer distance haul. I suppose it makes sense to send the van on its last leg on the 2 hour journey vs the 3 1/2 hour journey- but that is not what we had signed up for or paid for. I will describe our first hours in Belize, while riding in this van. The van was all over the place, the steering wheel did not even coincide with the direction the vehicle went, it was apparent a lot of over steering had to occur for the driver to keep the van within the road. There were a couple of near misses with other vehicles. I don't think it was the drivers fault but rather the condition of the vehicle. I was at the back of the van, with barely any AC happening and such loud rattling that I couldn't hear what people in the seats just in front of me were saying. We were tossed around the van, feeling every little jump and jerk of the van- the worst was the back doors of the van rumbling to the point we were half expecting them to fly open at any given time. The men knowledgeable about cars in our group said the front end was one wrong bump away from completely going out. Seems van was barely hanging in- we weren't expecting luxury, we recognize the cost of cars to bring to South America- but it is not unreasonable to expect safe transportation. I don't know why the owner/manager made such a decision, doesn't seem that much attention to physical safety was considered. However, we did make it to San Ignacio, and I suppose the journey added authenticity to being in a foreign third world country and the fear we experienced did add a little excitement and some lasting memories as we still talk about it and shake our heads. In fact, my parents who are in their 70's still haven't recuperated from being bounced around like that, the doctor told them it would probably be weeks before they felt themselves again.

Well, that isn't the end of the experience. We were ready and so excited to be going home knowing the roads were clear of flooding and we could make our departure times and were quite relieved when a newer nicer van arrived to pick us up in San Ignacio. It was short lived. The back seat had to be put down to carry our large pieces of luggage and we were told that the smaller pieces of luggage and carry-ons would have to be placed with us where we were sitting. That was fine, we could handle that. However, a problem, the van had 11 seats, the driver gets one, leaving 10 seats for 12 adult size passengers and their extra carryon bags. It was difficult to process this or even understand how this would happen, we pay a rate for 12 people and our luggage and this is what they provide? Yes, it was much safer than the first vehicle, this time no consideration for physical comfort and I suppose some safety issues with some of us not being in seats or seatbelts. While it was difficult to understand why this was happening, for the most part we were happy we would make our flights home. So we piled in starting with some people sitting on others laps while also keeping our carryon bags. One person had to ride with their knees literally pulled up to their face for over 2 hours, while I took a suitcase and sat on it in the back- exchanging out with another person an hour and half into the two plus hour trip when my back couldn’t take it any longer. Not sure why we were treated this way, doesn't make much sense since all our other encounters with people in Belize had been so extraordinary. Luckily this was such a small part of our trip and didn't ruin it. I just think it is important that people be aware of how a business may operate when they choose them. For Trip Advisor to be a truly effective and reliable tool, it is equally important to relay the not so rosy side of things.

The drivers were nice and no issues with them, although not at all like what we experienced with Belize Nature Travel where their guides/drivers told us and showed us so much about the country, the culture and the people and a big bonus the vans were safe and comfortable! Next time we do San Ignacio, I think we will use them for transport from the Airport and sneak in a stop at the Belize Zoo on the way in.

Great Service Great History Lesson
2016年8月 • 夫妻情侣
My man and I went to Belize for the week of my birthday. Our flight was delayed from DCA and again once we arrived in Miami to connect. Needless to say, this was not the start of a great vacation. I was really nervous that the shuttle would not wait for us some one hour and 15 minutes later but to my surprise Roy was there with a smile and a gentle handshake. He says delays happen all the time and it was not a problem for him. There was one other couple that was waiting in the shuttle and apparently a little ticked that the Shuttle had waited, hmmm I guess if their flight had been delayed it would have been a different story. Anyway, Roy began to tell us all about Belize, we stopped for Tamales at Berthas best Tamales and let me tell you!!! Those were the best tamales ever :) I couldn't stop looking for another stand my entire time in Belize. We road over gravity hill which is kind of a strange occurrence. The hill had a downward slope but when the car was placed in neutral it began to roll backwards. We also saw what the locals call "The sleeping giant". a cluster of mountainous trees that resemble a hug man sleeping peacefully.

We were at our Placencia location in less than 3 hours-Roy whips the road like the road stole something lol...it was an adventure! Thanks Roy :) We stopped by a Belizean grocery store and got some Belizean Coconut Rum ummm good.

On the ride back after a beautiful 5 days we were expecting Roy again but Jerome was sent instead. We were bummed at first but found Jerome to be just as sweet, welcoming, knowlegeable and friedly as Roy. We stopped in Belmopan the capital of Belize for Breakfast and has a very joyous ride.

Thanks to both Roy and Jerome our vacation worries in a new Country were put to ease!!!

Timely and affordable!

We loved Belize Shuttles. Yeah, they wouldn't take us from San Ignacio to Bullet Tree (wanted to overcharge a ton) and they switched times on us a couple of times for pickups (but let us switch our pick up times multiple times), but they were great. Since they're considerably cheaper than other shuttle services, I didn't mind switching to a taxi once or twice or moving my time from noon to 10 am. And, their drivers are awesome. We drove with Edwin, Philippe and Ron, and they were all helpful and gave great information during the drive. Tara was also really responsive, and even brought a bag to my hotel the next day when I left it in their shuttle. Recommend! Yeah you'll sit with strangers on the bus, but maybe they'll buy you beers like our strangers did.
