Words fall short on this once-in-a-lifetime-experience !
2021年10月
I don't even know how to start this review. You can look up all the information you need online but words can't describe the utter beauty you'll see when visiting this cave. It is an adventurous visit and one where camera's aren't allowed. This helps you really appreciate the beauty and history that lies inside the cave. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

Highly recommend this tour
2021年7月
This tour was fantastic! Luis was immensely knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and history and the plants and wildlife of Belize. We learned so much from him and the others members of Kawiil tour company! The trip into the cave was a once in a lifetime experience! The provided lunch was delicious. Book this tour!

A Must Do Experience

Make no mistake- this is a strenuous adventure. But it is also extremely worth it. It is a once in a lifetime experience and one of the coolest things I have ever done.

Amazing cave adventure
2021年4月 • 独自旅游
Actun Tunichil Muknal was the highlight of the trip. It was quite amazing. 3-4hr trekking and swimming through a cave to see Mayan ruins. It’s a shame past tourists have ruins some of the remains so no photos are allowed. But I really enjoyed my trip.

absolutely wonderful but VERY strenuous and dangerous if you are NOT in good shape. Use a good experienced guide!! We used a local tour guide named Hugh and he was amazing....HIGHLY recommend his company. I cannot remember the company name right off. The cave is the MOST beautiful thing I have maybe ever seen and we travel a LOT. You just can't go to Belize and NOT do this tour.

Once in a lifetime experience!
2021年4月 • 夫妻情侣
Don’t believe everything you may read about ATM! Yes, there is a little swimming involved and there is some climbing up rocks so don’t come if those aren’t your thing or if you’re claustrophobic (there are 2 narrow passages). Any water shoes or crocs will work so no need to buy special waterproof hiking shoes. Come with a sense of adventure and see a truly unique cave with stalagmites and stalactites, some fruit bats and preserved Mayan remains and pottery!

Magical cave, experience of a lifetime
2019年7月
My family and I visited Actun Tunichil Muknal June of 2019. This is not like a cave in the US where tourists visit. YOu must hike, cross rivers, swim across the pool at the entrance of the cave, wade up streams, squeeze through tight passages, climb rocks in you socks and up a ladder to reach the crystal maiden. Worth every second! It is so beautiful, amazing and tragic too. I am grateful for the experience, it was truly a trip of a lifetime.

This is the best activities we ever had during all of our trips. I was with my 13 years old son and he love it. It's a MUST DO for sure. I'm 40 years old in average shape and it was easier than I expected after reading about it. If you are not afraid of water, just do it, impossible to regret!

ATM Cave with Kawiil Tours
2019年12月
We traveled to Belize in December and this was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I am not the most athletic person, but I love adventure and culture so for me I knew I could not miss this once in a lifetime opportunity especially since National Geographic named it the number one sacred cave in the world. If you go prepared and with the right tour guide you will definitely have an amazing experience. So after we read several reviews my fiancé and I decided to book our tour with Luis and Kawiil Tours. Luis was absolutely incredible. He is so knowledgeable, takes his time, and is hilarious. Luis is like a walking history book and he was one of the first tour guides in the cave helping archeologists with their research so he knows his stuff. I also loved that Luis is really proud of his culture and uses his vast knowledge to educate people on the Mayan people while breaking common misconceptions at the same time. While many other tour companies double up on tour groups, Luis only tours one group a day and takes his time explaining everything and truly lets you explore so you really get the most of your tour. Most of the other groups appeared rushed and miserable. Here are some things I learned based on reviews that helped me prepare for the tour.

On this tour you will be submerged in water 90% of the time. The cave is dark, but everyone wears a helmet with lights. Since the cave is dark and you are in water pretty much the whole time you will get cold. You will also be squeezing between rocks and get scratches here and there. I wore scuba leggings, a bikini top, a long sleeve wet shirt, as well as water proof walking sandals due to this I stayed warm and scratch free. The pants and shirt also dry fairly quickly. You can also wear wet shoes.

You cannot wear shoes once you get to the chamber where all the artifacts are so BRING SOCKS actually probably wear double socks cuz your feet will hurt on the rocks if you do not bring socks. I bought myself scuba socks and wore them with my sandals, they also dry quickly and worked great for me. You can either wear your socks or give them to your tour guide who carries a dry bag to put any necessary things in there.

Bring a separate bag with you with dry clothes, extra shoes, and a towel so you can change after the tour. I would also maybe bring a plastic bag to put your dirty wet shoes in. You are not allowed to bring anything with you into the cave and honestly It’s a good idea because you really do not want to be weighed down by any items. Your are allowed to bring a reusable water bottle with you within the first 30minutes of the tour, but once you get close to the entrance there is a picnic area where you leave your water bottle and it will be your last opportunity to use the bathroom. When you come out you can grab your water bottle in the picnic area.

Life vests are provided and optional. I know how to swim so i did not wear one, but i recommend wearing it anyway as it helps with the rubbing against rocks and it keeps you warm. The water also rose significantly when we left the cave.

After the tour Luis provided a delicious authentic lunch made by his wife. I would say we were back at our air B n B by 4pm. I would do this tour a million times over thats how great my experience was. Just be sure to come prepared with what you need and for a pretty long day. Most of all live in the moment and enjoy this treasure. I am just amazed they are even letting people into this wonder.

Once in a life time experience
2020年2月
Before we visited Belize we wanted to visit these caves. Our lodge did spell it out it’s a long day and quite arduous. We were collected at 7am with a packed lunch and picked up others enroute to the caves only 8 people per guide. There is a good 1.5 mile walk from the car park to the entrance through 2 rivers - up to your chest . You are not allowed to bring drinks or anything into the cave. You swim the first section then you are walking either upright or squeeze through the tight areas the guide will demonstrate exactly how to pass
It is amazing and a must do if in this area. Well worth the cost and long day.
