The experience was around 45 minutes but it was good to see and hear about the Iguana 🦎 however we went for tea before the tour which was cold not warm and we didn’t get the 10 percent off as our food was before not after ! Bizarre!
Beautiful creatures though !

Located on the grounds of the San Ignacio Hotel - cool spot to learn about green iguanas and to get to touch and hold them. Kids loved it!

This was a last minute decision after a day of touring Mayan ruins. We squeezed in on the last your of the day, with fairly low expectations. We were delighted to spend an hour increasing out knowledge of green iguanas by like 500%. The mission of the program is admirable and you can tell how passionate the tour leaders are about their work. We got to pet some pretty darn large adults, hold some adolescents, and even saw a group of 1 week old babies! We just showed up though I think they would have preferred that we book in advance.

As suggested and arranged by our Travel Agent, we were taken to this hotel (also visited by The late Queen Elizabeth II).
The Green Iguana Conservation is run by volunteers and is very special.
As there were only three visitors, we were allowed to hold an egg, hold some iguanas and also fed them - and felt quite special!
The iguanas are now protected as the locals like to eat them…..There is a large fine and two years in ‘The Big House’ (prison) if found with an iguana.
We were also taken out of the enclosures, to see and definitely hear a resident Howler Monkey.
Our guide (sorry didn’t find out his name) was informative and friendly.

This interesting short ‘tour’ gave an insight into the lives of Green iguanas and is aimed at conservation of this fascinating species. We were able to handle a large specimen which seemed to enjoy the warmth of the human bodies as it kept coming back for more.

Thank you for your fantastic review of the Green Iguana Conservation Project! We're thrilled you found the tour insightful and that you enjoyed getting up close to these fascinating creatures.
We love that you observed the iguana's behavior! Green iguanas are ectothermic, meaning they rely on external sources for warmth. Perching on a human body is a great way for them to regulate their temperature, and they often don't mind the interaction.
We appreciate you mentioning our conservation efforts. By educating visitors like yourself and raising awareness about the importance of green iguanas in the ecosystem, we can continue to protect this amazing species.
We hope to see you again at the Green Iguana Conservation Project!
Sincerely,
The Green Iguana Conservation Project Team

Beautiful hotel, wonderful conservation efforts! Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, he even made a point of seeking out the howler money who lives in the area for us to see. We saw two types of iguanas and even got to hold one. The price for this tour was only about $10 USD each and a portion of the proceeds go towards the work they are doing to protect the green iguanas. The tour was about 45 minutes long. Highly recommend for an affordable activity and to familiarize yourself with the local conservation efforts.

A wonderful little place to visit in San Pedro. There are loads of iguanas wandering around/munching on fruit/just hanging out, and a couple of them followed us around! The iguanas all seemed happy and well cared for.

I am confused b your question? What do you mean the two common names give to them?
撰写日期:2015年3月3日
Hi Elisa, the Green Iguana Conservation Project was created for several reasons. One was to conserve the threatened species here in Belize and to educate people on the importance of not over hunting the Green Iguana.
