Beautiful waterfall but inaccessible!! It is better to have a 4x4 to access it, especially if it rains, very ugly access road!

Hidden gem that is worth the visit. When we arrived through a pretty rough road but it was worthwhile. The views are absolutely stunning and we had it to ourselves. I would say it is worth taking the time to see this but don't go if you don't have a 4x4

Even in an SUV, we were seriously worried about getting in and out.
The view of the falls was great, but, until they upgrade the road, I won't be going again.

This is probably the only waterfall anywhere whose name actually under-sells the attraction, as it's supposedly actually much taller than 1000 feet.
The falls are very pretty. I only saw them from the observation platform. There are supposedly trails to the top or bottom, but the trails aren't marked at all from the observation platform. I saw one trail, but since it wasn't marked at all (and was actually going away from the falls), I didn't hike to the top/bottom. There was a sign saying how long the hike was (1.5-2 hrs), but nothing pointing where to walk. Just as well.
On the way there, there is a very steep, very rutted, very muddy long hill on a very lonely (not many people go there, at least when I was there) road. I visited in the afternoon and it started raining while I was on the way there. I basically slid down the hill in my car. I came as close as I ever have to getting stuck in the mud trying to make it back up the hill. I had to back down and re-try 3-4 times.
So don't go without 4WD, and even then, reconsider if it is rainy at all.

My friend and I rented a car (was supposed to be AWD, but we suspect it was just a rear wheel). We drove several miles out of town, followed signs along the way, and ended up having to hike the road for about 45 min each way because the road was washed out. The pine forest surprised us as we expected to be in the jungle. The view from the vista was beautiful. Recommend making sure you have a 4WD car before venturing there though!

A jewel to behold. The view is staggering. Small country with great natural resources. We could see 20 miles. Blue sky. Fres breeze.

The funnest part was the drive there in our 4x4 rental. At our time the roads were dry - travelled in March. Wouldn't have wanted to try the road in the rainy season. Was fun bumping along the washed out roads in our 4x4 and made the experience humerous. The view at the end to see the 1000 foot falls itself wasn't overly spectacular but we enjoyed our excursion as we went out and about when we wanted to - not with a group on a tour.

Unless you are really wanting to get a look at the orange-breasted falcon, this is a long drive just to get a distant view of the top of the waterfall. Oh, and there are some NASTY no-see-ums in the picnic area.

On the day we visited 1000 Foot Falls, the sky was clear and visibility was spectacular. Felt like we could see these beautiful mountains for miles. By the time we arrived it was nearly midday---not the best time for birding. Nevertheless, we did find a lot of great birds there. Our lovely picnic lunch (under a pavilion right by the falls overlook) was interrupted several times for warblers, swifts, vireos, kites, and, THE rare bird to see here, the Orange-breasted Falcon. (Some captive bred falcons have been released here in an effort to save the species.) The platform for viewing the falls is pretty far from the cataract, but it is still a spectacular sight. Best of all, we were the only folks there at the time. Priceless.

Hadn't planned on going to this waterfall but missed a turn for the Big Rock waterfall and decided to check this out. Really beautiful. We had a rental jeep with 4 wheel drive and it was necessary in a few places. The road to this waterfall is about 30 miles long and very rutted. A normal car couldn't transverse it. This attraction is for the very adventurous.

Hi, is it possible to get to the bottom of each cascade?
do we need a guide?
Can i just drive by and see it?

We are thinking about driving out to the falls tomorrow. I understand that it is possible to hike to the base of the falls for a swim and a closer look. For those of your who have done the hike, would it be okay for kids? Thanks!

Many reviews said that the road was so bumpy and the falls so far away that it was not worth the effort. However there were just a couple that mentioned swimming-one above and one below the falls.
Are there trails that get you closer or make this a jungle adventure rather than just a look from a distance?
