I brought a group of students here to experience the full tour (drumming / gallery / lunch) and it was amazing! Ingrid and Pen were super welcoming and great hosts, whilst the food was delicious and they catered without a problem to some specific dietary requirements the group had. We spent around 3 hours there and everyone had a blast, can't wait to get back there!

From inside out it is a small local art treasure. I wish all the houses of that Culture Capital of Belize would be alike. The two artists, Mr. Pen Cayetano and his wife Ms. Ingrid are very friendly and adding a lot of charm to the athmosphere of their place.

Wonderful experience. A beautiful blend of culture and history delivered by a very talented and charismatic community legend. This is a tour of Dangriga you would not want to miss.

Pen and Ingrid have created a charming art and Belizian culture nook in the heart of Dangriga, Belize. They could not have been more informative, kind or hospitable. Meeting them on our recent trip was a true pleasure. Pen's paintings are AMAZING, as is his music. Be sure to come with cash in hand, as they have many items for sale. You won't regret it.

We hitched a ride up from Hopkins to Dandriga to see the town. Our first syop was to see Pen Cayetano's mural in the town hall. Amazing. It wa there we leanred that he had a studio just west of town so we walked a hot, dusty road to find it. Pen greeted us warmly and gave us a personal tour of his splendid portraits and paintings. If you are in Dandriga - look up his studio. He is a delightful host and guide.

The Cayetano studio offers the best introduction to art and music of the Garifuna people. Pen and Ingrid are the perfect hosts and will leave you wanting to learn and to see more. The paintings and other visual culture are especially fascinating, and provide an inspiring example of the creative spirit.

We had a great cultural tour with Pen. This interaction was a lively addition to the information from the Gulisi Garifuna Museum in Dangriga. It was exciting to hear how Pen makes traditional cassava bread himself (he also grows cassava, as well as other local plants, in his garden). Pen's pictures (and also his daughter's murals) tell a colorful story of Garifuna life and customs - very impressive visually - great addition to the information from the museum. Finally, Pen has a portrait gallery of notable Garifuna people, including musicians, so we could learn about them and purchase a couple of music CDs, including his family's recordings.
We are really sorry that we had to leave early and did not have time for lunch, which the family can cook if you pre-arrange your visit. Use this opportunity: it is not that easy to find Garifuna food in Belize: we failed to try hudutu, and we are pretty sure that the family can make it for you if you ask. The price for their lunch and tour is very reasonable, and you can also add a drumming lesson.
Finally, planning the visit with Ingrid (Pen's wife) was very enjoyable, informative and easy: she is exceptionally responsive. She will send you their flyer with their tours and prices.

Our tour was given by Ingrid, Pen Cayetano's wife, who is also an artist. Enjoyed learning more about Pen's music and how he started Punta Rock in 1981 with his Turtle Shell Band, whose portraits are on a mural painted by his daughter. Pen is a fine artist keeping the Garifuna culture alive in his art and music. Lovely gardens. A very friendly place, well worth the visit!

Pen's Arts Gallery offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a part of the garifuna culture through arts and music. Very warm and hospitable hosts. Ideal for any tourist who is interested to learn about the garifuna way of life past and present. While there interact with the garifuna drums, music (original Turtle Shell Band) and arts (Paintings done by Pen and Ingrid and Family). Purchase local made souvenirs. An experience you will never forget.
