I suspect that 90% of all divers dive the South end of the island (West End & West Bay). As a consequence, you'll be diving with half a dozen other boats and definitely running into packs of other divers. NOT my idea of fun. We stayed in the West End but fortunately I chose to dive with Mike at Black Pearl Divers. Located just 5 minutes north of the airport, diving with Mike gave us access to the lesser dived east and north reefs. We dove every dive virtually alone. Not another boat in site and never ran into another diver. By contract, the one day we dove the popular south and west side dive sites, we had a LOT of (unwanted) company. Also, Mike was very laid back. We're all experienced divers and we don't like to be led around on a leash by Diver Masters. Mike was attentive but laid back. We really enjoyed the three days (3 dives per day) that we dove with Mike. Also note that you'll pay less than half what the west side dive operations charge. The west side dive operations cater to the tourist crowd and not the serious diver in my opinion.

This was our second time diving with Black Pearl Divers. The staff, boats and equipment were top notch. Our dive master, Alberto, was attentive without being overly so. He was great to dive with. I would dive with Black Pearl Divers again, and woulda recommend them.

Aaron and Captain Iron did an outstanding job as our dive master & boat captain on April 25, 2018. Our group of 4 arrived travel to Roatan on the Carnival Breeze. We booked our trip through the cruise company. The dive was well organized. Our group dove with our own equipment, so Aaron & Mike got us signed quickly and out to dive. Aaron did an outstanding job explaining his dive plan & provided a comprehensive safety pre dive review. Aaron pointed out multiple sea life & reef life during both dives. Our group did two wall dives right off the cruise port. The vis was good & the water warm. We loved it. Made it back to the ship with plenty of time to spare. Would dive with Black Pearl again. A side note, dive master Sam, was working with a large group of discover scuba divers from our ship at the same time. One of the prospective participants was not really physically capable to accomplish the dive & Sam made the very difficult decision to not allow that person participated in the activity. I was very impressed on how professionally Sam handle is very difficult situation. Safety first should a,ways be a dive shop objective...Sam gets a big thanks for his professionalism.

We arrived on Carnival Fantasy in Roatan and I had booked a dive through Carnival. Will give both positive and negative side. On plus side the walk to the meeting area was not far near middle of the shopping area. We did have to wait for an extended period of time but understand they are trying to wait on everyone who booked the dive (learned latter a couple who had booked with Black Pearl went to Anthony Key excursion by mistake). Mike meet us and we walked a short distance to dive boat. Easy boat ride over to his dive shop. Did not take to long to get equipment setup but... BCD's are older models w/ no built in weight system so weigh belts are required. No bid deal but good to know. No computers on regulators, again good to know. Fins, well they are slip feet in kind with no adjustment. Once we got equipment, did dive brief and headed to reef a very short ride from shop.
Here I must say I was impressed with dive master who was from Canada. Sorry to forget name but you did a excellent job.
I brought my own regulator but my a leak (pin hole in the line) but crew was quick to change my out and put a spare on that worked fine. Big thank you to the crew on this.
Dive was great, lots of fish, and colorful coral. Very satisfied with both dives and the crew. Yes we did a quick ride back to change tanks between dives but that was no problem for me.
Negatives, dive shop was well... just not very well kept. I would have liked to buy a T shirt etc from a shop I want to support but no luck as they had very little if anything to sell. I also would have liked to had a chance to repair (replace my regulator hose but they did not want to look at it).
Would I recommend them, yes I would but if given the choice between two dive shops I would probably go to another one next time. Did like the crew very much but the perception of the dive shop not as much.
PS: No beach time, although dive excursion had this included w/ drinks (if anyone had to get back everyone had to get back), no drinks except water out of 5 gallon container.

My wife and I booked a beginner diving session and dive with this place and we had a great time. We have done a few other beginner dives in Cozumel which were good, but this one took the cake.
The dive took place of a boat rather than just walking into the sea from the beach, which meant a whole lot better sights.
The corral life was amazing. The guides knowledgeable, informative, friendly and kind. Understanding and considerate when dealing with the quirks of amateur divers.
We loved our experience and would definitely come again.

We booked this through Carnival Dream. After waiting in the "staging" area for almost 45 minutes we walked down to the dock and loaded onto a very crowded boat to the shop that was a stone's throw from where the cruise ship was docked.
This shop was so disorganized! It took them a long time to get BCDs and regulators assigned to each diver. Then they wanted us to assemble it onto the tanks like we were being tested for our dive certification despite having just checked all of our cert cards. Ridiculous waste of time! After our first dive we had to come back to the shop so they could switch out tanks. This also took a long time. Our surface interval was well over an hour. We were once again brought back to the shop after our second dive to sit around on the dock area while they gathered all their equipment. No beach break,no snacks,no drinks. With Carnival offering a choice of dive shops,we would choose to do the cheaper 2 tank dive with Anthony's Key for our next trip.

I've been diving for 14 years, been a variety of places around the world, on different types of boats, with instructors who speak English and a few who barely could. I am by no means as experienced as some, but I have a bit under my belt to make the following assessment. I would say that the majority of our experience with Black pearl was positive; the pick up service was excellent, the flexibility was wonderful, and the boat was clean. However, I can only give it 3 stars because of the dive master. He was.... lackluster. He did a really poor job at engaging us, his guests, before we got on the boat, while we were on the boat, or after the dives. Before dives, in-between dives, and directly after he was glued to his phone. There was hardly any conversation about the area, things we saw, what we might see, conditions, etc. I would look over to him to ask a question but was deterred by the fact that he never looked up from his phone. I recognize that maybe he was logging his dive... or maybe doing something along this line? But you can do that when the customers are gone. Please put the phone down next time, it really took away from our experience.

Dove Rotan once, many years ago with Anthoney's- worse dive experience in my 37 years of diving (with dives numbering into the many several hundreds.) HOWEVER, Black Pearl Divers took us on an excursion that allowed me to see why folks rave about Rotan diving. Folks, it’s beautiful! And, they are great and knowledgeable. A big plus in my log book, they don’t do the "One person hits 500 psi, we all go up" game. (Like Anthoney's). They take those who suck their air down back to the ship and allow us sitting at 1000+ to continue our trip along coral reef lane. Sign up for this dive trip!

We came in on Carnival Freedom, took a short walk down to the boat and were taken to the dive shop. It was a rainy day so this was great. We had several divers and it was nice that one dive master took care of those that needed to go up early while the other stayed with the rest of us. Scuby John did a great job as did the other dive master. The reef was absolutely amazing even on a rainy day.

Hi there. I will have a group of 4 coming in on a cruise next month. The cruise is not offering a Pristine Bay trip but we still want to dive with you! Is there any way to arrange transportation with the dive shop or resort? We are willing to pay extra. Please let me know what you'd recommend.

Hello! I am researching which company to book a dive with later this year as a Carnival cruise visitor. You are one of the 4 dive excursions that our cruise ship is offering. Actually, there are only two offering 2 tank dives for more experienced divers, such as myself.
I am primarily looking to go to Mary's Place (weather depending, of course).
Is that a destination that you offer for cruise ship guests? Or, do you have other set destinations for cruisers?
