While it’ll only take a few minutes to stop by and see this location, the Atlanta Public Library is one of those obscure sights worth taking that extra moment to see. The library was originally built back in 1908, and the structure was built in an octagonal design (which was even more unique back then). The interior has been restored and is beautifully maintained. There’s a nice collection of vintage furniture and decorations to help keep that old time feel. And, of course, there’s plenty of books and other library materials.
In addition to the main building, there are also a few other interesting things to see around the library, such as a clock tower, a couple millstone, etc.

I stopped at the library and then walked all over the little town to see all the Route 66 sites. The library is cool and there is a few historical markers around it. Across the street is a little Route 66 park that is worth 10 minutes. The the Bunyon Statue and the museum (which was closed). I loved the whole little town.

Atlanta's library is situated right on Route 66 and is a stunning building in an octagonal shape and a clock tower out front. A plaques out front tells visitors about the clock tower and the mill stones.
What really makes a library is the people. The staff at the Atlanta Public Library is friendly and likes greeting visitors taking a journey down the Mother Road. In fact, the library is associated with the museum and Palm's Grill cafe in town.
I will continue to stop every time I am on the road.

The structure itself is lovely. Not sure if it is handicapped accessible. They have modernized as much as possible. Children's area is truly delightful and well stocked.

...so why not stop by and see this one when stopping to see Tall Paul & eat/drink at the Palms Grill Café (both close by), as you do Route 66? We did and although not the most scenic building around it is an architectural rarity.

Atlanta's public library is literally a center of attention whereas it is in the center of town. Although it was closed the day of my visit, I was amazed by its architecture. The clock tower nearby, features an original 1909 hand-wound clock. Built in 1908, a library, or any building for that matter, with an octagon shape in extraordinary!

Finally, on my fourth visit to the Atlanta Public Library, it was open! They serve a small community of 2,200 people, so it has some limited hours. It was well worth visiting.
The library was built in 1908 and is an octagonal building. It was restored to what is thought to be original paint colors and wood floors in the 2012-2013 timeframe. It is beautifully furnished with some vintage pieces mixed in with appropriate newer furniture. The bookshelves mainly line the walls. The entire basement is devoted to children.
The employees are very nice and helpful. They love to talk about the library and the town. It's definitely worth a stop.

It will only take you 10 minutes to admire the clock tower and walk through the library, and it's time well spent. If you're not in a hurry, sit down in one of the leather armchairs and read a newspaper or just enjoy the view.

As you are making your way north on Historic Route 66, you'll come across this library which has been around for over 100 years. Probably most interesting is the architecture or the shape of the library which is an octagon. Worth a photo op if you are dong the drive. Why not? People won't believe that you decided to drive a 2 lane highway instead of the Interstate, anyway!

The city's public Library has continuously served this small farming community since it was built in 1908. It is one of the rare eight sided libraries in the Midwest.
