So many beautiful animals here some with incredibly sad stories of how they lived before ending up here. You can tell these people are passionate about what they do. Thank you all for helping these amazing animals. The tour guide was awesome and very informative. A great place to visit if you love animals. This is not a zoo it’s a retirement village for wild animals that have been through some of the worst situations you could imagine. Highly recommend visiting.

The animals are amazing and so are the stories about how they became residents of the sanctuary. The staff is knowledgeable and so dedicated. The work the staff puts in is so needed to provide a better life for these neglected and abused animals. Kelsie, our guide was informative and a great guide, alway willing to answer questions. This is great place to take kids.

Absolutely loved visiting this sanctuary!
I highly recommend the Feeding Tour. During this tour, we learned the history for most of the animals, which was often times sad. Thanks to Black Pine, these unwanted, no longer loved animals are thriving (which takes time, of course).
These animals are unable to survive on their own in the wild. This is where they spend the rest of their lives.
If I didn’t live so far away, my granddaughter and I would love to volunteer at Black Pine.

This was our second time here. They do great work. You can sign up for a tour or walk around on your own. Last visit we did the tour and it was terrific but this time we were late so just walked around. The animals are close enough to see but have large enough enclosures to hide too if they want. Our son loves all the big cats.
Worth the stop!

We went here for something to do on Sunday while we were staying at Shipshewanna. So very glad we went. This place rescues annimals misused by zoos, hunters, and from persons who purchased exotic annimals and found out later they couldn't handle them. The stories will break your hear on some of the animals, but it will defineately open your eyes.

I enjoyed our visit to the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, I thought the 18 acre grounds were well kept and the enclosures of the larger cats and the wolves were of a decent size so they could at least move about. There are a variety of animals to see and they all have their own personal story of how they came to be at the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. They also have a beautiful memorial grounds / memorial garden area where they honor the beautiful animals that have passed away at the sanctuary.

Place absolutely needed for the poor animals. Tour behind the scenes worth the value. Sad that a place like this is necessary and that people get animals they don’t care for. Thank you for the work you do everyday for the animals.

Thanks for asking! As a sanctuary, we differ in may ways from a zoo. We offer a variety (a "menu") of programs for visitors and rates vary by age. Programs vary by season, and day. In order to find rates, you'll need to figure out when you plan to visit and see what is being offered using our Options by Date calendar, or, review our program descriptions and plan a trip when the program you want is being offered. All of that information is available at our website, click on "Visit Us" (click on the website link on our profile here.). In general, fees range from $4 for preschoolers on field trips to $50 for an adult on a Behind the Scenes tour. Summer programs mostly range from $7 to $15 per person. We're happy to help by phone, at 260-636-7383. Thank you.

Do you need a membership to go?

Not as of July 2017. The sanctuary is transitioning to better manage visitation for the sake of the animals, so they recommend checking the website's Options by Date calendar and reviewing options offered - and registering ahead of your visit. This allows them to revise schedules if necessary and to communicate with anyone planning a visit if needed. Memberships are available and members do get more privileges than non-members.
