I walked there from the Hilton only to find the place locked up. A parking attendant said museum has moved to the national museum. If this is true you should highlight that on your website!

Rather disappointing; huge amount of exhibits especially on ethnography (the tribes of Namibia)and information, poorly displayed and labelled - too low down and out of focus range. The fauna /birds section was in electricity blackout - we especially wanted to see this with 19 day tour of the country ahead of us. Whole thing should be moved into National Museum where too much space exists for current exhibits, & create a truly world class National Museum.

The visit started with getting to the door. Sitting at the front of the museum was a group of intoxicated people drinking alcohol at 9am. The front is also surrounded with rubbish and washing hanging over trolleys. When we entered the museum we were told that half the displays can’t be seen because the lights aren’t working and we had to pay to take pictures and we had to give a contribution at the end to assist with repairs.
The displays are old dirty and falling to pieces.
We stayed 5 minutes and then left. On leaving the woman asked for the contribution and when I asked where was the box to put it in she told me to give her the cash.
Honestly I felt unsafe walking into the grounds of the museum and was sadly disappointed by the museum itself. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Ich kann den anderen Rezensionen nur zustimmen. Eigentlich ein gutes und informatives Museum und mit viel Mühe gestaltet. Leider ist es schon ganz schön herunter gekommen.

Zum empfehlen aber erkennbar an Geld leidend. Personal sehr hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Für die mangelnde Technik nicht zuständig.

The Owela Museum is in effect the national museum in that it documents the peoples of Namibia and their history. It is however incomplete as it appears to rely on grants and donations and thus some parts of the story are yet to be told.

Tres bon musee qui merite une visite. Dommage que la grande majorite des touristes issus de la populace ne s'attarde pas a Windhoek !
Ce musee meriterait une presentation moins detaillee et plus moderne.
L'entretien serait a ameliorer car l'eclairage, parfois, est completement absent. Est-ce si difficile de changer des ampoules electriques?
Pourquoi les wc sont-ils fermes a clef? J'ai visite des centaines de musees dans le monde. Je n'avais encore jamais vu cela ...

Very interesting ethnological and natural history museum. The dioramas are interesting not only in their content, but as a history of museum display... They are very old school! That being said, if you have the patience and ignore the lack of lighting in much of the natural history section you can learn a lot. Well worth a visit. What a shame more is not invested in upkeep, maintenance and development. Not a good choice for younger children.
