First off, i highly advise you to call your contact person at least a day prior to your tour in order to confirm the location and time, which in this case was Alex. We thought we were in the right location but there was a bit of confusion on where to meet. Fortunately we had a cell phone with a local sim card so we were able to call Alex directly to figure out our bearings.

Now that we've got that out the way, i must say that we had a great experience with our Food Expedition. As soon as we arrived at their home, there were tabletop burners already set up for our experience. Muay was our main chef with Alex providing extra english assistance. Normally they offer 4 courses but we did 5 because there were no other tours after us and we all decided to just take our time.

The five dishes we prepared were Papaya salad as an appetizer, Panang Chicken Curry which was my personal favorite, Tom Yum Shrimp Soup, Pork Larb, and finally a sweet banana dessert drizzled with coconut milk and sweet syrup. They use thai chilis which are pretty hot, so if you like spicy foods, i think 1 or 2 chilis are more than enough. My partner opted no to have any at all.

Every dish was delicious and easily prepared. I am a bit of a cooking novice myself so i can say that the preparation was very simple but some ingredients do require some type of cutting like deveining raw shrimp so be prepared to use a knife.

The tour is about 5 hours long and the amount of food you eat will set you straight for the rest of the day. I almost didnt want to do anything else for the day because i had food coma and wanted to just take a nap lol.

Overall i would highly recommend this tour because it gives you a unique and authentic thai living experience and allows you to really enjoy the company of really nice thai locals. It was a breath of fresh air compared to the typical tourist traps.

Lastly they give you a nice signed certificate to take home along with a CD filled with cooking tutorials which was an added bonus!

Great group activity made more memorable with friendly and great guide Alex together with Muai, the chef. Had fun learning how to cook 4 dishes: som tum, penang chicken, tom yum and laab moo. Thanks again Alex, Muai and her mom. We super enjoyed this part of our trip.

Food and Cooking School A
Market Tour B
TempleTour C
Overall Experience A-

Danny and his wife were informative and patient, and since there was no tour coming in the afternoon, we were able to relax and feel no pressure to complete the tour on time.

There was only our party of 3 so we had a private expedition. I would recommend the experience, especially for a group aged 18-50. It could be a real daytime party!

We learned a lot in the market and got some good photos. It would have been a little better if Danny knew more about all the items or a Thai-English speaker accompanied Danny to ask questions of the vendors.

The boat was really nice and the river ride showed another side of Thai life. The temple stop was a bit tacky, old place with paintings of a supposed ghost, the remains of a 6 month old baby and a snakehead fish that was in a right angle from being kept in a small tank. We had a lot of laughs over bad jokes!

The cooking is in a nicely appointed house. Unfortunately, the docks near the house are being rebuilt so we had to work hard to get off the boat and then ride in the hot back of a pick up for a couple of minutes. Not good for less nimble folks.

Everyone got their own gas burner and all the ingredients were attractively placed on individual trays. Danny's wife does not speak much English, but she knows how to cook! We prepared 4 dishes, eating each one immediately at the table outside. I really liked that approach better than cooking like crazy and then eating all dishes together!! I got to adjust the amount of chilies used in the second dish. We received a CD with the recipes. They did not exactly match what we did, but close enough.

Danny would have driven us partway home, but we decided to call Easy Taxi rather than burn our bottoms again in the truck. I am sure the docks will be done soon, making the transfers much smoother!

What a brilliant morning, greeted by Danny and his wife off of the Sky train he showed us around a lovely local food market explaining all the wierd and wonderful things that was sold there and explained what we would be using to cook with later that day. Very informative and interesting. Then took a ride down the river on their boat stopping at a shrine along the way, Danny told us a local legend story about why the Thai people go there to worship it. Arrived at their house, brilliant set up with about 10 cooking stations all very professional. Cooked 4 different dishes and got to eat them all, 2 peices of advice...go on an empty stomache and dont underestimate the power of the chilli!!! Overall excellent day, exploring the city and creating & eating some lovely.

Promptly greeted by Danny and his lovely wife, the refreshing welcome drink took the edge off a thirst built riding the BTS Skytrain to the stop where we planned to meet (this is seriously easy to navigate your way around so no need to stress!!!).

After a bit if time exploring a local day market and being introduced to all of the typical, weird and wonderful ingredients used in Thai cooking...we took a river boat to a local shrine - read the other reviews if you want the details in advance.

The lesson itself was really easy to follow...but don't let simplicity put you off. The food we cooked was absolutely stunning - DEFINITELY DO NOT EAT BEFORE THE TRIP!

Plenty of delicious food, good clear instruction and great company...

Many thanks for a great afternoon guys!

I booked this cooking class based on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. Despite being the only person for the morning class, I was still given the whole experience. Danny , his wife and their other Thai cooking instructor met me at the BTK station and we had a drink at a local cafe while they explained what the morning would hold for me. We walked down to the local fresh food market, where Danny explained all the different vegetables, spices and meats (they don't buy their meat here but at the supermarket as the market meat area is not up to the hygiene standards that most westerners would be happy with). That in itself was extremely interesting. Then a short walk down to the river and a wonderful ride on a longtail boat through the klong. This to me was one of the big differences about this class, you get to see a side of Bangkok not often seen. The temple stop was also really interesting, with Danny explaining the background behind the story of the Bangkok Ghost. On arrival at their house, Danny and his wife provided a lovely cold drink and the menu that we were going to cook was explained. By the layout each guest has their own cooking station, and I learnt to cook four simple but traditional Thai dishes. Being a fan of Asian food, I have done a lot of Asian cooking, so the dishes were quite simple, but like everything, you learn something every day, and having Danny's wife explain the different ingredients and why they are used was very interesting. Had a great time cooking up a storm, and eating my cooked meals. Word of warning - do not eat before you attend this class as you will be eating constantly throughout the expedition. At the end you get a present of an apron, a CD with all the recipes and photos of you that they take through the day, and a certificate. A great touch. Highly recommend this expedition. The cooking may be a bit simple for those that are experienced but it was a fun day, and with the market and klong tour it is certainly more than just a cooking class and EXCELLENT value for money. It was just a pity that because of the troubles, their bookings like a lot of other tourist businesses are suffering, and I am sure with a full expedition it would be a really fun day

We are not big cooks but were looking for something different to do in Bangkok, especially as travel was a bit limited with the protests. The day starts at the BTK station with a complimentary drink. Danny's wife had also bought us some 'street food' treats, which were delicious, and gave us an idea of some of the things you can buy. The market trip was great: bags of frogs, fish heads, chickens feet, you name it, it was there! It was also great to learn about all the different fruit and vegetables on sale. We enjoyed the boat ride very much, but could miss the temple trip. The cookery class was brill. Quite basic (good for our level!) and lots of food which we had the leftovers packed up and had for dinner. Really friendly and personable trip, felt like friends rather than a commercial enterprise. Recommended!

It is really a very niceintroduction to thai cuisine: you go all together to the market - a real market, not the tourist bazaars - where all the ingredients are bought. After a very nice trip trough the klongs and a visit to the "ghost" temple, the cooking can start. It is a very fun experience preparing your food all together, comparing each other's creations and then tasting your first result of Thai cuisine.
A day out I would recommend to everyone!

Cooking Class with a difference - how different was it? Most classes bring you to a market, choose the food, and off you go to do some cooking, or so I thought. The meetup point was easy to get to. Phra Kanong BTS Exit 3 and a few short steps to the cafe where you get a welcome drink while waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. It turned out my friend & I were the only participants that morning. Lucky us! Danny and his team brought us to the nearby wet market to get our ingredients for the day. Then it was off to a boat ride through the canal and finally arrived at the shrine of Mae Nak. This shrine is a popular one for Thai ladies it seem with many coming to pray for blessing. This was our last stop and we went to start our cooking fest. All this walking made us hungry and we were raring to eat some food. Our instructors Noi & Aey along with some assistants made the cooking a breeze. Incompetent as we were, we ended up with dishes that rivaled the best Thai restaurants I ever visited! That's my opinion anyway. With so much food to share we had one of the most enjoyable lunch together with Danny and his family. Thanks for the wonderful experience Danny.
