Nothing to see here! Our receptionist in the hotel said it had been removed and she was right. So disappointed as everything I read said to visit.

TLDR: Easy to do a quick visit using grab app for pickup/dropoff; felt safe the whole time; spent about an hour by the lake.
Had a Grab taxi drop me off (and later pick me up) at a Pho restaurant on the main street (83 Đ. Hoàng Hoa Thám, Ngọc Hồ, Ba Đình, Hà Nội, Vietnam) then walked down a short lane to reach the wreckage in the lake.
Visited on a quiet Monday morning around 8am as the city was just waking up. Grabbed an egg and cheese crepe from a vendor outside the hospital (next to the lake). Spent about an hour walking around the lake, taking photos, watching locals gather their groceries from the morning market by the lake. This was one of the more emotionally stirring spots on my trip to Vietnam...

Of all the places in Hanoi, this was the one historical site I wanted to see most. Situated down some narrow back streets and located easily using Google Maps it is a 9 min walk from the Main Street through some great back passages until you come out by two very small lakes, the wreckage of the B-52 rests quietly in a tranquil square surrounded by houses and coffee shops.

I go for applying the visa and going to Hanoi is good for the food and keep it for the traditional things as well.i have alot photo in face book.but no pictures

thought it was pretty interesting to read the plaque, the war from "their" perspective! people are mentioning the walk but we didn't notice anything different, you are walking through some side streets and a tiny market area, it seemed totally fine, don't be put off by that. the whole history of the war is horrible of course and we were very glad to have seen this site. ps - I was there on Jan 20 so not sure what the person above me was saying it had been removed.. it was definitely there.

On our recent trip to Hanoi I had always wanted to see the wreckage in the lake of the US B52 bomber.
I convinced my my the walk through good and not so good neighbourhoods would be worth it?
Basically don’t bother there is no wreckage! My wife thought I was loosing the plot until after much internet searching I dug up a small article how the lake was dredged in 2021 and the wreck removed permanently!!!!
You can see the amount of cafes and coffee shops that once enjoyed all the tourists but no more.

This was off the beaten track - but well worth a visit actually. It’s free - we did it as a walking loop, walk from Citadel to the botanical gardens and then to the B52 before going to head back into the city to go via Lenin Square and onto train street. Makes for a great day

Iconic!! A bit if a bugger to find and got a taxi from. A must see when in Hanoi. Great avocado smoothies from the bar outside. The area gets busy around school hometime.

A very unique and special relic to witness. Quite mesmerising how it is simply left how it lay when shot down in the 1970s. Worth reading up, little information once there. Type in “ho b52” into Google Maps to find it and walk through the backstreets to find a secluded area.

Our guide mentioned this lake with its remains of an B-52 bomber shot down in the early 1970s. While it is a reminder of the terrible war it reminds us of how resilient both man and nature can be.
The area surrounding the small lake is a series of very small streets and lanes teeming with daily life. The walk to the lake is worth it just for an insight into the life of the poorer parts of the inner city of Hanoi.

For those interested in accuracy the plane in the lake is actually a B-52 D model not a G model.The plane was actually the last B-52 to crash in Hanoi during Linebacker ll. Flown by Captain Lewis crew call sign Cobalt 1 tail number 56 -0605. I was a B 52 pilot stationed in Guam at the time of this accident. Source: Vietnam Air Losses by Chris Hobson.
