I know that for history of Bangladesh it means a lot, but it's very "kids beggars place" so 5 minutes is quite enough to stay & listen to the story.

I have visited the iconic Shahid Minar since I was a young boy. Every time I go there, it makes me feel proud as a Bengali speaking person. The movement for the Bengali language was finally recognized by the United Nations and the world now have a Language Day to celebrate.

How the Shahid Minar Honors Those Who Fought for Bangladesh's Independence.The Shahid Minar, or Monument of the Martyrs, is a national monument in Bangladesh that commemorates the struggle for independence from Pakistan. The monument is located in the capital city of Dhaka, and stands at a height of 62 feet (19 meters). The base of the monument is made of black granite, and the structure is adorned with floral motifs and Quranic verses. The Shahid Minar is a popular gathering place for Bangladeshis, and is especially crowded on national holidays.
The Shahid Minar was designed by Bangladeshi architect Muzharul Islam, and was built in 1971. The monument was erected to honor the memory of the Bangladeshi soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during the Bangladesh War of Independence. Hundreds and thousands of people with floral wreaths and bouquet gather on 21 February every year to pay respect in a solemn atmosphere. Celebrations begin at zero hour of midnight. As recognisation of the language movement UN declear 21 February as International mother language day in 1999, which ovsreve all over the world every year on 21 February.
