It was a very sad experience to see that very old dark cages are still being used for the majority of animals.
A Bengal Tiger, magnificent in its natural habitat, was not only looking scrawny in appearance but was relentlessly walking a figure 8 route from one end of its cage to the back, across the front and around again. I watched for 5 minutes and walked away feeling depressed for this beautiful animal.
I will not detail the sorry sight of the listless monkeys and apes; the birds crowded together in cages without much provision to fly, and the areas around the cages that were not easy to traverse.
I realize that for many Bangladeshis this is an exciting place to see these wonderful animals in a real sense but, having visited world-class zoos in San Diego (USA), Singapore and Australia I spent as little time as possible in this place.
Let's hope that some now, open-plan spaces can be created for the iconic species so that they may exist in a habitat more like a natiral one

This is the Bangladesh National Zoo located in Mirpur. The place is nice in generally, however, could be better! But still recommended (especially, if you are traveling with kids) if you are visiting Dhaka.

Visited with family and kids. It's huge and it will take lots of time to visit the whole area. Some part is very neat and clean and some area seems to be dirty. After entering into the area, visit the left side first. We went to right side and became tired walking but kids enjoyed when we came to left side since elephants and many other animanls are in this area.
there are restaurants inside and price is reasonable. They have parking space but not much safe.

Some renovation is going on. Large place to visit. You need at-least 2-3 hours to visit the whole zoo. Not up to the mark and clean but still you can pass your time. Lots of tree around and many place to sit and take rest.

Dhaka Zoo is the largest zoo in Bangladesh. It has many wild animals to have a tour of. Childrrn as well as adults will love the place. It is a place to be in. Public transport can be availed to reach the place.
