I hired LAN as a private tour guide for the day, as I was a solo traveller and impressed by his reviews.
LAN was very honest, sincere and respectful at all times with myself and his culture.
He was very knowledgable and shared his families experience during the Khmer Rouge which no doubt helps you understand how far the Cambodian people have come since this tragic time
Our day started with visiting S21 prison, then to the Killing Fields and lastly The Royal Palace.
LAN was very informative and it was good to feel safe walking around with him as he shared the history of each place we visited.
LAN spoke English very well and we enjoyed some laughs after our visit to each, which lightened the mood for us both.
I would highly recommend LAN for a private tour guide in Phnom Penh.

This is not a tour company - this is a one man operation. Lan does everything, from customer service, scheduling/coordinating, transportation, knowledge/experience sharing (so don't be upset if he doesn't respond to emails on the same day). He is a trained/qualified tour guide, speaks good English, he rents vehicles based on group size, and has a personal story to tell. We did 2 tours with him - an afternoon tour of Mekong "Silk" Island, and another full day tour of S21, Killing Fields, and Royal Palace.
Pros: Lan is laid back & down to earth, very knowledgeable and genuine, we never felt pressured to purchase/tip anything, we drove past his relative's home on the first days, so we did a quick stop and he introduced us to them (and cut open a fresh coconut straight from the tree as a thirst quencher!), he took his time and never rushed the tour, the vehicles were all in excellent condition (there was a driver on the second day when we had a bigger group)
Cons: Had we known we were going to have an opportunity to meet his family, we would have brought some supplies/toys/stationery to give them!
The Mekong "Silk" Island tour was OK, not particularly exciting. I would recommend the second tour.

We spent two days with Lan and he gave us the opportunity to really understand the country! Phnom penh is a city you can’t miss if you want to know Cambodian!!

We're having a good tour time with Mr Lan. Very helpful and friendly. We gain a lot of knowledge about Genocide Museum and The Killing Field. He even shared about his personal experiences which is related to the history. Highly recommended!!! Book him!!!

I had messaged Lan from the UK and arranged for him to collect us from our hotel to go to S21 prison and killing fields. We are a family of five with 3 kids and our youngest is 10, so I wanted a private trip in case it got a bit emotional for her and we could be more flexible.
Lan gave us a great price, was a fabulous and safe driver and his English is excellent.
Between the prison and the killing fields he chatted a lot about Cambodia and gave us lots of information.
The visit to the prison was pretty harrowing, but feel it is a must see. When Lan told us his own family history under the Khmer Rouge, it just made it all a bit more real and emotional. For him to take people on this trip shows the pride and courage of the Cambodian people, to come through some horrific times and then share your story with such dignity is a testament to where this country is heading.
I would recommend Lan’s services whilst in PP: courteous, safe, punctual and informative.

He is very friendly and charge very low in Phnom Penh. He speaks English very good and he takes me to all where in Phnom Penh.

From my initial emails with Lan last year he dealt with everything professionally and adjusting tours to suit out short stay. Very punctual for all our trips in a lovely air conditioned car.
An extremely knowledgeable guide and safe driver especially when driving from Phnom Penh to Siem reap in torrential rain and thunderstorms.
We learnt a lot of history about cambodia and his personal tragic family history. Considering his past he is such a happy outgoing guy whose smile lights up your day

I found Lan's name on TA while researching a guide and am so glad I did! We spent 2 days with Lan. and went to the S21, Killing Fields, Silk Island, old markets etc. We liaised in advance and he was very responsive and willing to do whatever we wanted. His English is excellent and he was very happy to share his family stories. We visited his sister in law's home on Silk Island where she does some weaving....and he took us to local places for lunch that my husband really enjoyed. Would highly recommend this wonderful gentleman as your guide!

Lan was more than we expected.
Great English, so generous in sharing his personal history and knowledge of Phnomh Penh with us.
Excellent Aircon Car, cold water, lunch with his family on Silk Island..highly recommend Lan..travelling with my 92yr old father....it was a memorable day.

Hi. Lan provides tuk-tuk transport between sights and will organise to your requirements. Entrance fees to sights were not included.Fee for the day, including taking me to airport at the end of the day - $35.

What a lovely review you gave Lan ... Brought tears to my eyes too! I would like to book him for a couple of days, but as you have visited there and I have not as yet, would you suggest maybe booking Lan for 3 days?

I agree with mg021. However, Lan will give you some itinerary ideas.
Three days would give you plenty of time to explore, but I would get out of the city and see some of the real Cambodia. Maybe visit a school/orphanage etc and take a few goodies?
It really is a beautiful country with beautiful people. Have a wonderful adventure.
