Two years ago, exactly at the same time, my wife and I were deep in concentration in completing the hajj manasik, the hajj rituals in mina and mecca. Today, we are celebrating the eidul adha in other ways. We arrived in Phnom Penh, the vibrant capital of Cambodia in the of afternoon of yaumul nahr, the first day of muslim worldwide sacrificing the animal as the mark of submission to the Almighty and as sign of selflessness as the meat of the sacrificial animals distributed to the poor and less fortunate.
Upon arrival we perchance a visit to the Al Serkal Mosque in Phnom Penh , the newest and biggest , which to me exhibited the tolerance of the government and particularly the solidarity that of the HE Prime Minister Hun Sen towards the minority muslim community of Cham people in Cambodia. The Muslim are truly grateful to the HE graciousness.
The next day we proceeded to Kratie Province, about 280 km from the capital, where few pockets of communal muslim Cham people reside. The Muslim Cham constitute 2 percent of the total population of about 15 million Cambodian. We brought along with us money entrusted to us by few friends and families to buy sacrificial animals. The cows were sacrificed at two kampong namely kampong Ro and Tenot and the meat were expeditiously distributed among the kampong inhabitants. It was delightful and joyous day for the kampong folks as some of the poorest of them will only chanced to taste beef during the eid celebration.
Yes, many are poor though not destitute. Their dwelling and houses speak for itself. Some still depending on water from the great Mekong river or underground water which have to be drilled and pumped out and many are still without proper sanitation. Many are without fixed job and income.
The seasonal flooding of the Mekong river affected a large swath of land in the area for months. The flood water receded painfully slow, sometime will takes months to dry up and thus affected the economic activities and livelihood of the whole community. We are however told that we are lucky as the seasonal flooding was delayed this time around. Otherwise, our visit will somehow be very much inconvenienced.
We actually have factored in all inconveniences we may faced in the trip. We are not here for leisure after all.
Seeing the joy of the children and the sparkling in the eyes of the kampung folks are the best reward.
Next year, by the grace of God we will come again to celebrate Eid with these simple kampung folks and we hope to do more for these people even not during the Eid.

Let's spread the spirit of Eid al Adha in a more meaningful way. I'd like to quote President Duterte's Eid celebration message :
"...Now, more than ever, we are called to lend a piece of ourselves to endeavours that redound to the common good and benefit the most number of people".

Nearly all substantial I believe in Phnom Penh. Understand it's a donation from a UAE family. Wish the mosque committee is going to keep on keeping the mosque to the utmost cleanliness of its.

The biggest mosque in Phnom Penh and really awesome decoration inside. Better bring your own sandal to wudhu place.

I have been living in Cambodia for almost three years.
I have visited many places in Cambodia.
This is the biggest spiritual Location " The Al Sarkal Mosque" for all Muslims living in Cambodia. Almost all foreigners Muslim are attending the Friday prayer in this biggest Mosque.
The Mosque is locate adjacent to Phnom Penh Hotel , built on a big land peice with having enough space for car parking.
The Mosque has Male and Female sections seperately.
You can make ablution on the site and there are a few bathrooms built on the left side of the Mosque.
I believe , you will enjoy this biggest structure which Muslim recognize it as the biggest Mosque and respect it as one of their spiritual place.
The Mosque is cooled through Central cooling system.

It is the biggest mosque in Phnom Penh. It is at the back of Phnom Penh Hotel around 50 meters only. A lot of Halal Restaurants and stalls nearby

Diese Moschee befindet sich auf einem ehemaligen See, der zugeschüttet wurde.
Sie ist schneeweiß und liegt direkt hinter einem Nobelhotel und einem Slum.
Sehenswert aber es gibt schönere.

地域のモスクです。美しい開かれたモスクというイメージですが、私は中に入ることができませんでした。庭が広く、バスターミナルにもなっているようです。カンボジアは仏教国というイメージですが、結構イスラム教徒が多くいます。

Hi,
I would like to recommend you to stay in the season apartments. It’s located in the center of tourist attractions. (I live in airbnb but I don’t suggest you to stay in airbnb here because it’s not a muslim
and family friendly). Easy to find halal food because there is a restaurant on the next door “ The Gulai Restaurant”. The food was quite reasonable and tasty. There is another option of halal restaurant just around the corner, which you can google and read the reviews. You can use grab car in Cambodia, which is cheaper to go anywhere but just ensure that you studied all the places you want to visit.
P/s: make sure you have enough change in Kriel and Dollar when you want to pay anything. I suggest to pay in Kriel if you ride a Grab car or buy souvenirs from the local. Hope it will help you less or more:)
