Dordoy Bazaar is the largest bazaar in Kyrgyzstan, it is one of Asia's greatest public marketplaces, comparable to Bangkok's Chatuchak Weekend Market or Tehran's Grand Bazaar. Most of the market is built of double-stacked shipping containers. Typically, the lower container is a shop, while the upper one provides storage. The market is said to date from 1992, its 15th anniversary being celebrated in 2007.As of March 2024, approximately 70,000 people work officially and unofficially in connection to Dordoy. The containers, organized in dozens of rows, form streets and plazas of a sort covering the equivalent of 160 rugby fields.Smaller buildings between the blocks of containers house restaurants, administrative offices, toilets, hotels, and other ancillary structures. Most of the goods sold at Dordoy arrive from China, with the second largest source (perhaps 30% of all imports) being Turkey. One can also find clothing from Thailand and Europe, music CDs from Russia, and goods from many other countries in Eurasia, as well as a selection of local products.Although many of the people working and shopping at the Bazaar speak Kyrgyz, Russian is the main language used in trade. From Bishkek city board the Marshrutka No 230 or bus No 117 from "Clock Tower" if travelling by public transport.

Bustling 2nd biggest bazaar. Very crowded. Go here if specifically looking for household products/ clothes etc. Otherwise, don't. Difficult to get there and back. Good experience.

We were curious to see what it's all about, so we took a yandex there (quite a bit away from city center). We needed some comfy pairs of shorts and found them. Prices were very affordable, staff eager to sell but not overbearing.
You just need to pay attention to your wallet, as everywhere, and also get out of the way as there are people with carts all over the place. It is a bit chaotic, but if you need something, you will probably find it there.

If you want to see the entire bazaar you really need a half day or longer. This place is HUGE. On weekends it is packed. About 1/3 is chinese imports, 1/3 is european imports, and 1/3 central asian imports. A unique place to spend part of a day.

what an experience, the market really has everything you could want. it takes time and good footwear to discover the world of containers. it's best to go in the morning, most of them close at around 4 p.m. the prices are always negotiable and a price comparison is advantageous. Be careful not to exchange money in the exchange offices, is better in a bank. Since most traders only take cash, you need cash. a small impression of the market or its size, around 50,000 people work there.

Several square kilometers of containers - that's what this place looks like from above... and from the ground, too. In fact, one of the biggest markets in this part of the world.
Container on the ground level is a store, the one top of it is a warehouse: sizes, variety, discounts - always ask for it. The shopkeeper will rush to the other end of the market to get what you want from his friends, warehouses, etc.
You won't get lost in this labyrinth of containers, but it's always hard to find the spot you're looking for - so ask the owner for a visit card with a row and container number indicated.
Comparing the prices on a market is very important - it can very by 30% and more.
Parking: not good.
Transport: private taxis, not reliable, overpriced. Cab services are always there, call them when you get to the main road by feet or get stuck in traffic on the market road - that's your choice.
Food: you better not.
Toilets, hygiene, etc.: good enough. Pretty dirty.
Temperature: insanely hot in summer, nuts-freezing-together cold in winter period, including November and March. Very windy - there's a wasteland on the north, just 5 minutes away. One of the biggest dump sites in Central Asia, in fact - 35 hectares of burning trash and several dozens of kilometers of plain ground behind it.
Safety: pickpockets, like anywhere on Bishkek markets. Do not take anything you don't want to lose - keep the passport and 100ish, maybe. Phone in a hand, no backpack - those guys are pure magicians, you won't even realize you've lost something till you get back to your room. The place is surrounded by one of the poorest ghettos in a country, people have to survive, you know.
Prices: competitive. Osh bazaar is cheaper for some of the goods, but here it is cheaper by dozen, though.
Variety: huge. Clothes, fireworks, stationery, curtains, material, electronics - this is a place where you go if you wanna start a new small business. Huge warehouses and cargo companies are here, too. The place is actually dying slowly because the prices are mostly the same here and in the malls. Freezing your booty and sweating 30 mins in a bus or hanging out in the mall with a cup of latte in your hand to pay the same price for the same stuff - what would you prefer?

Dordoi Bazaar is a few kms north of Bishkek, and well worth visiting for a few hours. It is huge, but take your time and wander about and get lost in the various lanes. This market is composed of 2 story shipping containers, with the bottom being the store and the top being the storage space. It is mostly wholesale, but there are retail sections. You can find anything and everything here, in different sections. The shopkeepers are helpful if you need to find something specific. This market had mostly Chinese goods, and people from all over Central Asia come to shop here. Great place to people watch and browse the goods

This market is located on the edge of the city. It is really huge! Really!!! It may take you hours just to come around. It is specialized on clothes.
Pros:
- you will find almost everything here
- very reasonable prices
- although no orientation system but every shopkeeper can tell you where is the goods you are looking for
Cons:
- too large
- difficult parking
