The art of carpet making is the pride of the Turkmens and therefore also a whole museum dedicated to many different exhibits. You learn a lot about the art of carpet making and the meaning of patterns and the change of meaning over the centuries. We had a very informative tour in English. You will find the largest and smallest carpet in the world and a replica of the oldest found carpet. (Original in St. Petersburg).

These carpets are true works of art and the results of mind-boggling amounts of labor. Imagine making a carpet with more than a million knots! I generally don't pay much attention to carpets, but this collection collects some gems that are stunning.
Signage is rather limited. Short texts in Turkmen, Russian, and English are helpful, but a knowledgeable guide can add so much more.

Truly remarkable! One of the most interesting carpet museums I've seen. The variety of objects on display was considerable. Not only carpets, but decorative devices for posts and windows, furnishings for the Yurts, a very large one has been reconstructed as a museum with all the furnishings. There are also beautiful fabrics for clothes and very unique carpets with images of the country's historical monuments

Excellent views of carpets and surrounding fringes and a way of escaping from the glowing whiteness that pervades the rest of Ashgabat.

Many of us look at our carpets everyday not thinking anything of it, not knowing the amount of history and culture that is presented on the fluffy rectangle that is laying on our floor. I used to do the same until I visited the eye-opening Turkmen Carpet Museum.
Once you enter you instantly get overwhelmed by all of the bright colors and complex designs on the carpets that cover every inch of the 2-story building. You get paired up with a guide who takes you around every carpet. When you first take a look at any of the carpets you just think of it as a carpet with a design but with the help of the guide you piece a story that is getting told by the small details, whether that is a short fantasy story or a story by the weaver on how the carpet came to be.
When my father told me that we were going to be spending our day in the carpet museum, I was disappointed, I didn't think that there is going to be anything interesting to do there, but I instantly changed my mind. Not only have I ended up learning not only about carpet history, but I got to learn about Turkmen carpet history, which in my opinion better than other countries' carpet history which only wants me to learn and share more about carpet history.
I recommend this museum to anyone who is interested to go nontraditional museums and who wants to learn about cultures that are not talked about, I also recommend to anyone who is going to go pay that little extra fee to learn weaving and help a little in making a carpet for the museum. Overall, I rate this museum a 10/10 I would defiantly go back.

Turkmenistan is known for its amazing carpets and a tour of the museum shows you why. The carpets are beautiful. I suggest taking the tour as the guide explains the different styles and how the carpets are made. According to Guinness book of world records, the largest carpet in the world is hanging in the museum. The guide was really knowledgeable and after the tour showed me how to wear the married ladies hat and scarf. She did do because I expressed an interest and it was fun. Photos are allowed only in certain areas of the museum.

Es ist schön, etwas über die Herstellung der turkmenischen Teppiche zu erfahren. Auch hängt dort einer der weltweit wohl grössten Teppiche.

In Bukhara we were taken to a Hugh carpet outlet with hundreds of sizes and traditional patterns ; prices were not cheap but they claimed authenticity . There are many carpet sources and to me unless you want a huge carpet worth 100s of thousand s it better to just get the pattern and colour design you like where you see it
If you buy for a family heirloom your kids probably won’t be into it
Patterns denote which area they were made from Pakistan to turkey. All intricate and amazing . You can get a small one metre by three metres or a banqueting room size. They traditionally were made for the walls and floor warmth and cool
These countries are less travelled and amazing

What is meant by expensive and if not buying in the carpet museum, what is the process for obtaining appropriate documentation to take the carpet out of Turkmenistan with you?
撰写日期:2018年4月23日
See latest answer expensive well how big is your pocket a small carpet can be $2000us
The outlet where you buy it can usually give the correct papers
I saw that happen with others in my group who bought carpets
Some carried the smaller with them and others had them shipped
I did not buy so not exactly sure but have caught up with those people and they all had no problems either way
Only thing get the paper work whilst paying to make sure you have it
