We embarked on an almost month long private tour of the 5 “Stans” early this September. Our organiser, Anvar, was well prepared & organised; however, the last minute changes in our Turkmenistan tour, two inattentive & wayward on-the-ground guides & a border shakedown at Tajikistan soured a relatively fascinating trip.

I contacted advantour regarding uzbekistan. Mr Marat organized and answered all of our queries within 2 weeks. Overall the trip went very smooth and beyond our expectations. The hotels were great and comfortable. The drivers were all friendly and on time. The car was also comfortable for our transfer to different cities. I highly appreciate each and every one. Mr. Zohid, Ms. Charos, Ms. Kamila and Mr. Shohruh were all amazing guides. Highly recommend and I definitely will use advantour for future trips to central asia.

I approached the idea of taking a trip to Uzbekistan with some fears as it is a little-known nation and a destination rarely included in the most common tourist itineraries.
This trip turned out to be an extraordinary experience that erased all doubt. Each stage of the tour offered unforgettable moments: breathtaking landscapes, such as panoramic views from the Chingun Mountains, and fascinating cities. The exotic atmosphere of the Tashkent bazaar and the striking lighting of the Samarkand monuments at sunset are unforgettable. Even cities like Khiva have left a deep impression on us for their beauty, both day and night. To this must be added the warm and sincere welcome that, in every context, the inhabitants have given us.
The organization of the Uzbek agency I chose (Advantour, contacted online from Italy) was decisive for the success of the trip. It showed a particular attention to our needs, choosing excellent guides, comfortable hotels and well-structured itineraries. The guides stood out for their competence, friendliness and knowledge of the Italian language, making the cultural experience even more immersive. The assigned driver, despite some language difficulties, was professional and helpful, helping to make the journey safe and enjoyable. Particularly appreciated was the flexibility in adapting to our preferences (it was an individual tour for me, my wife and my son), which allowed us to experience authentic moments and unexpected encounters that further enriched the trip.
In conclusion, it is an unforgettable trip that I would definitely recommend to friends and acquaintances.

Smooth and enjoyable visit to Uzbekistan with the assistance of Advantour, who was the local partner of a foreign tour operation we traveled with. The customer service of Advantour was excellent and I’d like to give a special thank you to Sevara who organized a great tour of Tashkent and also kept in touch to upgrade our travel tickets as our journey progressed.

During 2024 October last week I visited the multiple historical sights of Uzbekistan with Advantour, even though I have done many tours in different countries with many travel agents “Advantour” is felt completely different from others with their services and hospitality by their guides, office staff and drivers. I feel its high level of professionalism in every corner of their services, Uzbekistan is not an economically rich country, but its culture and history are better than any other ancient country which I have visited because of citizens friendly manners instill warm Uzbek hospitality and selfless love to every tourist who chooses Uzbekistan Classic Tours, I would like to recommend the tourists from all over the globe to visit this culturally filled nation to feel the warmness of central Asian peoples hospitality with Advantour, Tashkent!!!

We used Advantour to book our train tickets for our Uzbekistan trip. They had excellent customer service, responding promptly and clearly by email to our queries and explaining how the train reservations system works, as well as other details about the trains (class of service, berths, seating charts, etc). And they delivered our tickets by email as promised. An efficient and hassle-free experience — especially useful for independent travelers like us.

I contacted Anvar, Advantour's manager, two weeks before my planned departure to arrange a seven-day tour along the Silk Road. I had already bought my flight, but I was hesitant since I would be traveling alone. To my relief, Anvar managed everything wonderfully, arranging local transport, accommodations, and sightseeing. The local guides he selected introduced me to the wonders of Uzbekistan, making the experience truly memorable. Anvar was reachable on WhatsApp throughout the week, and everything went smoothly. Uzbekistan is a magnificent country, and I encountered friendly, welcoming people along the way.

The Silk Road tour was very well organised. Guides and drivers were all excellent, very informative, and flexible. Service from Olga at Advantour was also excellent. When a tummy bug affected our travel, our schedule was rearranged within a few minutes, despite it being 7.00 on a Saturday morning. We were well looked after from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Everything, from the itinerary, sights, drivers, ticketing arrangements, and hotel bookings, was done very well. I enjoyed everything about the tour -- even the times when trains were late and one of the guides seemed like he'd stopped caring a long time ago. Mostly, I found these small hiccups entertaining and more than worth the minor annoyance if it meant having the opportunity to experience the really amazing things that Central Asia has to offer.
It was really nice to have all the transportation and hotels arranged because I was traveling solo, and that requires a level of work and vigilance that already takes a lot of energy. Having someone else deal with a lot of the logistics took a lot of the stress out of the trip and left more room for having a good time. And I happened to be on a tour with two other solo travelers (a very small group) who were wonderful traveling companions.
In general, if you are coming from Europe or the U.S. and good at traveling in places where flexibility and patience are a must, then Central Asia is a perfect destination for getting just a little out of your comfort zone and having the joy of discovering something new to you. If you're like the American guy in front of me at passport control in Tashkent who was complaining to the officer, "But that's how it's done everywhere else in the world!" then please just go somewhere else in the world. Central Asia is not Wisconsin, my friend.
Anyway, I highly recommend Advantour to help you arrange your trip.

We were travelling with our two adult children. Advantour had organised our trip excellently. All arrangements (hotel, driver, guides) were perfectly done. Everyone always perfectly on time and speaking English well except for the driver (this was mentioned upfront) but we easily managed with Google Translate. Uzbekistan is an amazing country with beautiful sights and friendly people. The hotels were of very good quality (Hyatt in Tashkent, Zarafon Parkside in Samarkand and Caravan in Khiva) with the Shahriston in Bukhara the least but this was compensated by the ideal location, right in the middle of the old town. I would like to thank our travel consultant, Sevara Tillayeva, who was very helpful and professional in organising the trip (actually twice as the first attempt got cancelled because of Covid in 2020).

Hi, I'm starting to plan my next adventure and a 21 day +/- trip to the Stan Region sounds interesting. My wife and I traveled across China to as far west as Kashgar and we toured Georgia and Armenia so the Stan region seems like the next logical choice.
I'm 60 years old and I will most likely be traveling on my own as my wife died a couple years ago and I doubt any of my friends would want to join me as this would be way too adventurous for them - as far as I am concerned, they are the ones who are missing out. In Feb this year I toured India and Sri Lanka on my own and in Oct. 2018, I completed a trek in Nepal on my own that my wife and I had planned, it would have been our 3rd.
I like seeing both the culture and scenery of places I visit and I don't mind going off the beaten track if necessary...
Do you have any suggestions and a possible itinerary.
Thanks,
Tom, Vancouver, Canada

Hi Tom,
We are in our mid-60s and travel independently to places that often aren't on the tourist trail. Six months ago we decided to combine an independent dip into India and Kazahkstan with an Advantour tour of Uzbekistan, in part because of the constant difficulty having our Visa card and Mastercard accepted online in Central Asia from Australia.
Advantour were simply fantastic, can't recommend them highly enough. Flexible, great accommodation, good guides and not a single hassle.
Central Asia is really worth seeing from a cultural and historical perspective. We started/finished in New Delhi, a short flight from there to the Stans. Suddenly not so easy when flights are cancelled as Pakistan launches missiles at an India fighter jet. Seems that flights are often cancelled India-Stans because of tensions - beware.
Almaty in Kazakhstan is exceptionally beautiful. Stay at the 26 story brutalist concrete monument with the huge kitsch golden crown on top - the 1970s Kazakhstan Hotel, built to showcase Communist architecture and cultural achievement to the Western world. Almost unchanged and well maintained since built, and friendly staff. Not expensive. Catch the local bus up to the old Olympic skating rink, then up and up into the steep mountains in the series of cable cars to the Shymbalek ski fields. WOW! Do the walking tour with American Dennis Keen of Walking Almaty, he fell in love with the place and married a local. Knows the history of this amazing Stalinist 1920s built city, designed around a grand opera house. Fountains everywhere, statues, treelined walking streets, communist era apartments, lots of cafes and coffee shops with local food.
In Uzbekistan we did Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva tour (Advantour) . Brilliant, historic and often breathtaking. I'd do it all again!
We stayed at the Gloria Hotel in Tashkent for three days before the tour and six days afterwards, and explored Tashkent every day on foot (and ultracheap underground metro). We booked the Gloria ourselves and they upgraded us to a massive suite at no charge - opulent Russian, lots of heavy black wood and velvet. Hardly any English but we managed fine.
Highlight of Tashkent is the underground with it's amazing stations. Some resemble ballrooms complete with massive chandeliers, others are Art Deco, or 80s cosmonaut spaceship. All designed to bring culture to the Communist workers on their way to the factory. Police everywhere, as in everywhere, but the days of shaking down the few visiting tourists for US dollars are gone. All super polite and they saluted us wherever we went, we must have stood out as visitors.
Unusual: shortage of small change. Lollies instead of change at supermarkets. Shortage of bank notes. Many ATMs are empty even at the banks, keep trying.
Mastercard isn't accepted anywhere, even when they say it is. Visa is usually fine. US dollars in cash is acceptable or the scarce Uzbek Sum, not much else. Food is fabulous, especially cakes and pastries. Horsemeat is on the menu, as is the unusual national dish of Plov. Nearly every car is a locally produced small white Chevy (but not related to GM anymore). Find the hidden govt auto museum (right in a govt office block) with never used Communist era cars, and a fleet of small white Chevy's personally signed on the hood by the President - he signs every 100,000th car off the production line and off to the museum they go!
Tremendously fascinating country, definitely see Uzbekistan before it gains a profile as a tourist destination.

I went in early September - warm & comfortable during the day & cool at night. It’s good time if you want to do some hiking. It’s the fruits season too - sweetest, juiciest local fruits like melons, peaches, plums, grapes, etc, I have ever tasted!
December is cold like our North American temperatures!

I am trying to travel in Uzbekistan and have a great proposal from Adventure. Unfortunately, when I try to lock in my reservations with them, my visa keeps getting declined. My bank has authorized the charges, but they keep getting declined on the website sent to me by the travel agency. Has anyone encountered this? How did you pay? Should I just wait until I get to Tashkent to pay cash and hope the arrangements can still be made?
