The price to ride the cable car up Monserrate is cheaper on Sundays but the trade off is that is probably the busiest day of the week. We arrived at the station mid morning and there wasn’t much of a line so we decided to ride the cable car instead of the funicular. There wasn’t a line for the funicular so it would have actually been quicker to the top because people that had purchased a more expensive “fast pass” got to cut in front of us. Once at the front of the line, we were able to purchase tickets and walk up a flight of stairs to board the cable car. The cars have no seats and are packed with over 30 people. Despite the crowding, the view during the ride is quite nice.

Monserrate is undoubtedly the crown jewel of all the attractions in Bogotá, and an absolute must-see for anyone visiting the city. We made an early start, arriving as the cable car opened at 6:30 a.m., which I highly recommend if you want to enjoy the experience with fewer crowds. For those feeling adventurous, there’s also the option to hike up, which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on your fitness level.
The taxi ride to Monserrate takes you along a winding uphill road, offering glimpses of Bogotá sprawled out below. The view alone, even before you reach the top, is breathtaking. Once we arrived at the base, we opted for the cable car—a scenic journey that provides stunning views of the city on one side and the surrounding mountains on the other.
At the summit, you’re greeted by sweeping panoramas of Bogotá, with plenty of picture-perfect spots to capture that quintessential ‘Instagram moment.’ In addition to the breathtaking views, there is a beautiful church perched at the top and a peaceful bird-watching path that invites a quiet moment of reflection.
Though there were some other visitors, arriving early meant we had plenty of space to take in the views without feeling rushed or crowded. I can imagine that as the day progresses, Monserrate becomes busier, so the early morning visit was well worth it.

The visit itself was nice if not for the extreme waiting times. One hour to go up and 1.5 hours going down. People with very solidairy fastpasses skipping the cue. Knowing this, I would not have gone

On a clear day you can take either the cable car or the cog railway (train) to the top of the Monserat (to the distinctive white church).
Price is relatively high by Colombian standards.
Above a of course a nice view over the huge city of Bogotá.
You can see the church, there are some souvenir shops, eateries and a restaurant.
There is a beautifully landscaped walking path / park where hummingbirds would sit. We didn't spot them, but it could be time and temperature.
There is also a footpath to the white Christ statue and a path down.
When buying the tickets, they would like one person to get the ticket and the other person / persons to join the so-called family line.
How and if you find each other again is quite chaotic when it is busy and you are not prepared for this.
We saw it go wrong a lot.
To the base station it is easy to take an Uber or Taxi. Road goes up quite a bit. You walk 35 minutes, even though the distance is small.
Back when it is light (and relatively safe) you walk back to the center in 15 minutes.
Above them you'll see it in an hour. Total time depends on the crowds (line can be long). Check carefully whether cable car or cog railway is faster.

The place, the incredible cable car, but specifically the person who was at the ticket office, a lady with a very bad mood who not only scolded me but also the following buyers who really made us all feel very bad, not only the bad treatment of the tourist but also the local, it's terrible that they have a person like that.

It's a very beautiful walk. The view is beautiful. We went the day after our arrival because we noticed that the sun was shining and it would give us visibility. The hill is very well looked after. The nature is beautiful and there are several sculptures with Christian motifs scattered around. We went up and down by funicular, not by cable car, which wasn't working that day. The queue to get off took around 40 minutes (it was the most boring part of the tour).

Much better than walking up where the top is at 10,000 feet above sea level. What a view of Bogota. The Monserrate Funicular Train Ride is fast and efficient.

I chose the Teleferico to go up to Monserrate, because I don't go on the funicular. The climb lasts approximately 5 minutes, in which you can see glimpses of Bogota. Unfortunately, only in the lower part of the cabin you have a perfect view. However, once you reach the sanctuary very beautiful views open up over Bogota

Mandatory attraction for all tourists going to Bogotá! It's worth standing in line to enjoy the view from the top.

The ride up and down the mountain is relatively short, maybe 10 min, but the wait on line can be longer. I would say you should budget a couple of hours for a short visit, giving you time to visit the shops and have a bite to eat as well as enjoying and photographing the sites and yourself. Enjoy!

Te comento que el Teleférico funciona de 8am a 5pm. Y también tienes la opción del Funicular o subir caminando (pero eso sólo es recomendable si tienes un buen acondicionamiento físico). El Santuario de Monserrate está abierto de 7am hasta la medianoche; sin embargo, lo ideal es ir en la mañana o al atardecer.
Lo ideal es que puedas visitar también la Casa Quinta de Bolívar (que está ubicado a sólo 2 calles del ingreso para el Teleférico y el Funicular).
Que disfrutes mucho tu tiempo por Bogotá. Saludos desde Perú.
