Ambo Island ist in Tarawa gut mit dem Bus zu erreichen. Das Parlamentsgebäude liegt dort nahe der Lagune.

We had some free time on one day and spent much of the day driving around. Very scenic and beautiful ocean views. It is extremely hot and humid so air-conditioned vehicle is the best way to sight-see -- though it is more about ocean views.

Ambo, and the rest of South Tarawa has great potential.
The waters that surround this atoll look inviting but are rife with polution and human bodily waste. Hook worm is common along with other nasties.
The land and beaches are no better with litter, broken cars and general negelect of everything.
For visitors, don't venture bear footed anywhere, don't swim in the lagoon and definately don't drink the water unless you fancy a visit to the hospital!

This is basically a residential area so facilities are minimal but there is accommodation at Utireri Motel and Dreamers Guest Lodge.and restaurants at Utireri Motel and Parliament.

Tarawa自身が細長い島なのでその一部であるAmboを特別に島と意識することはないけれど、確かにBetio,Bairiki,Bikenibeu....それぞれが島となっているようだ。 会社や大きな港やビジネス的な建物の多いBetio、郵便局や図書館や競技場など公共の施設の多いBairikiとくらべたら何もないAmboは究極のリラックスができる場所。

Most advice is to the effect that one shouldn't go swimming in the lagoon off Ambo Island. Looking at the rubbish along the shore and the murky water I decided to respect this advice. A better place to consider swimming is at the end of the causeway to Betio Island.

Lîle d'Ambo est un des morceaux d'îles reliées par des jetées à Tarawa Sud.
Il n'y a strictement rien à faire sur cette île, à part visiter le Parlement de Kiribati. Ca vous occupera au moins 20 minutes - il y a des tours opérateurs qui organisent la visite guidée du Parlement de Kiribati, pour les affamés de culture locale, c'est aussi intéressant (et sans doute beaucoup moins) que la visite de la maison communale de Givet dans les Ardennes (08).
Ambo Lagoon Lodge est abandonné et désert, le lagon est pollué (on peut se baigner, mais il faut savoir que l'hôpital le plus proche est à plus de 2.000 km), le Ambo Lagoon Lodge est abandonné, ses bâtiments sont en ruine et le petit morceau de plage en bord du lagon est très sale (canettes de bière, vieilles bouteilles en plastiques, déchets de tout genre, etc...)
Ambo ne vaut vraiment pas la peine de sortir de la route principale qui parcourt tout Tarawa-Sud. . Oubliez...

I just wanted to add this review as I think currently this entry on Tripadvisor implies that swimming from Ambo is a good idea. Generally speaking the level of pollution in the lagoon is such that i-matang (foreigners) should avoid swimming in it except further away from populated areas e.g. North Tarawa, or else where there is good flow through from the ocean e.g. Buota, Betio causeway. Swimming from Ambo carries a risk of getting pretty sick.
Ambo Lagoon Club is still a lovely spot but not much happens there these days.

With the Parliament building sitting on reclaimed land in Ambo, it's a prime spot to visit. Sitting out back by the water is a good way to spend some time.
