Vanuatu is to be avoided until a carrier...an airline can provide a regular and reliable international and domestic service. Book at your peril . You will need a holiday after your airline experience alone! However, the people are wonderful, relaxed, reliable and charming...unlike the airline. Visit Vanuatu by boat...a banana boat is more reliable than the airline .

Lovely wood carvings and baskets. People are not pushy, there is no pressure to buy and bargaining is frowned upon. Plenty of colourful and inexpensive sarongs as well. Unusually pleasant and calm atmosphere.

I love the open air markets. Local people with their crafts. You can’t leave without a bit of woodwork or some weaving! I love my new bag! Perfect for the beach.

Everything here is made in Vanuatu. Some fo the crafters are working in front of you. Good place to get authentic handmade crafts from Vanuatu. You can walk here from the Market along the promenade.

I tried to go here twice with my husband. The first time we got there it realised it was closed. It was not updated on the website. I think it was because it was Easter Monday. The 2nd we got there, we discovered only 2 stalls were open. It’s a huge space with potential but not worth the visit.

Amount of open stalls depends which day you go... we tried to visit on non-cruise days so it was possibly quieter.
Loads of woven products which we are assured you can take back to Aus! We'll see ... sales support local women and women from other islands ❤

Friendly people. It would be nice if they could have actual locally made handicrafts - too many poorly made chinese etc made cheap and nasties. Buying cheap woven hats from the Phillipines and then using a sharpie to scrawl 'Vanuatu' or 'Port Vila' does not really qualify it as 'local handicraft'. Also, beware of the 'volcanic rock' figure carvings, though the carvings may represent local custom there is nothing volcanic about cement, which is made from limestone which is a sedementary rather than and igneous stone. Putting cement into a silcon mould and doing a bit of finish work does show some handicraft skill this is overridden by the lie that it is carved into 'volcanic rock'. Sorry if this offends but I'm done now

Expected a lot more from this place. There are just a handfull of sellers, with handicrafts that can be found in other shops in the town.

As a bit of a craft tragic, I like to get something handmade and local from places I visit so the Handicraft Market boasting (on their sign) 140 stalls inc 28 boutique stalls seemed a great place up head. It’s actually terrible. About 7 stalls selling pretty basic craft items all overpriced. Save yourselves a trip.

It depends on what country you are going back to. We purchased a hand carved wooden crab. The lady we purchased it from , took it to the quarantine department near the airport, and had it treated, and gave us a certificate stating such. When we returned to the USA, customs was happy with the certificate and allowed us to bring it in.
