As part of our trip to Korea, my wife and I wanted to take a cooking class and were extremely lucky to find Janet.
Meeting up was very easy, and the location was perfect.
We started by visiting a local market where Janet explained about local ingredients and gave us an insight into how Korean history and culture shaped the local cuisine.
In the market, Janet showed us a few hidden shops that make ingredients on the spot that we would never have spotted without her - that was the best sesame oil we have ever smelled.
After buying the ingredients and tasting local snacks, we took a bus to Janet's studio.
We proceeded to spend the day cooking, eating, and drinking together.
We cooked way more food than we could finish.
Besides teaching us specific recipes, Janet taught us a few techniques we will definitely use in our home cooking.
Through it all, Janet was like the Korean mother we never had! Making sure we ate and got back home safely.
This day ended up being one of the best on our trip. Superb choice.

We had a great time touring Gwangjang market with Janet! We learned a ton about the traditional food in the market, and Janet was able to personalize the food to our tastes. Janet even made time to answer all our questions and tell us more about Korea in general in a coffee shop.

I had a weekend in Seoul and didn't know what to do. Luckily I stumbled onto Janet's page on Tripadvisor! She was warm, kind and generous - and speaks great English. I loved the tour of the traditional outdoor market, and the cooking was super fun. Four full hours and I got to take home a ton of leftovers! Thank you Janet : )

I spent nice four hours with my husband and 2-year old daughter. We´ve learnt four delicious Korean dishes (Jjimdak, Seafood Paejon, Mushroom Japchae and Bulgogi Salad). You can also choose other Korean dishes you want to learn to cook.
It is possible for people with some dietary restrictions or specific lifestyle (vegan, vegetarian, etc.) as well.
Janet was nicely outspoken, friendly, speaking English perfectly. At the same time she was professional and well-informed in terms of cooking. I would also praise Janet for quick responses and generally good communication.

I’m new to Seoul and are not familiar with Korean cuisine. A friend and I decided to book a day at Janet’s cooking studio.
After meeting Janet at a cafe, my friend and I joined her on a visit to one of the local markets. The market was a fantastic experience. First you smell the wonderful food cooking at the different stalls, then the beautiful colorful fruit and vegetables everywhere. Janet speaks perfect English and could explain all the foreign (to us) fruit and vegetables. Not even the cloudy weather could dampen our spirits.
After purchasing a few products, we left for the cooking studio. A beautiful, well equipped apartment where the teaching continued.
Janet taught us 4 recipes. Each one absolutely delicious.
I strongly recommend anyone to enroll for a cooking class. Not only do you learn about the food and cooking of it, you will also make a friend.

I’m glad we opted for a session including market tour - what a great introduction to Korean food! Impressive variety of new fruit, vegetables and fish. Numerous opportunities for travel photography!
Janet is a great guide, fun and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our cooking session as well as the delicious food that we cooked. Definitely recommended! Can’t wait for having new classes with her!

I had previously done Janet's market food tour and had a really good time, so I booked her cooking class to learn how to make some of my favorite foods from the market tour and a few others I was curious about. This session started a shorter market tour of a different market, then we went to Janet's cooking studio, where she had all the ingredients ready to make budae-jjigae, mung bean pancakes, and bibimbap. She is a fun, informative, and very positive cooking teacher, and all the dishes came out delicious. The dishes were a fair bit larger than she and I could eat on our own, though, so I left with a bag of tupperware containers and foil-wrapped goodies to take back to my hotel and enjoy in the days after. If you're at all interested in Korean cooking and want to give it a try, Janet makes it accessible, fun, and tasty.

It was my first time in Seoul so I wanted to get a guided tour to show me around town. I met Janet my second day in Seoul and we walked all around a famous market while she introduced me to people working there and offering me food and information about the city and culture. I really enjoyed the tour. Before I met her I had very little knowledge on Korea in general and didn't really speak the language. My comfort level with the city went way up after I met her.
I highly advise a tour with Janet if this is your first time in the city then get the tour early into the trip!

Our half day tour with Janet was the highlight of our time in Korea. Her personal insights into Korean food traditions were the perfect compliment to a walk through the Dongdaemon markets, where we found all manner of incredible eats: pickles and preserves, seafood dried and fresh, noodle stalls, dumplings, offal and much more. The sights and sounds were compliment to several sit down tastings -- do not eat before you arrive! -- that were bursting with interesting flavors and textures and left us happily full. We sampled all kinds of things that we would never have had the knowledge (or courage) to try on our own. And throughout Janet was the perfect guide and companion. Would happily do the whole thing again. Do not miss!

We had a great time during our cooking class with janet. Not only is she very knowledgeable about all kinds of fresh ingredients on the market and korean culture, but also an incredibly positive and fun Person. Last but not least the food was delicious, but far too much for the three of us
