There is a nice variety of items spanning Egyptian history but not so much that it gets overwhelming or takes hours to get through. The big draw is all the mummies on the lower flower. There are many and somehow something so amazing can get repetitive when you are on your twelfth mummy. There were no people outside claiming to be guides for hire which was great. Signage inside was in Arabic and English. Easy to get there with Uber and get picked up when you are done. Give yourself 1.5 - 2 hours.

This museum was amazing. Imagine seeing multiple mummies up close. Although in glass cases, you were only inches from the mummies. It was quite an experience. The royal mummies hall is well organized and has description of each royal. The history of the area was well depicted in artifacts and explanations. The museum was clean, air-conditioned, well maintained and very well organized. Even a quick lunch in the food area was perfect.

Huge Museum area with lake outside, all new building in excellent shape and cleanliness, very nice staff.
Royal mummies are presented in the base level in a very suitable and respectful way, tables explain the most important information for each pharao.
Ground level shows a nice display of artefacts from Egyptian history. There are additional a cinema and Theater.
I highly recommend visiting the NMEC.

The location of this museum is way out of town 7 km towards the south in Fustat suburb. I walked here along the Nile and along a dusty highway. The entrance as well is not convenient, as you have to walk around the vast museum complex (no shade). Probably for these reasons most visitors take a taxi to get here, if not brought by a tourbus.

The museum provides a very good overview of the history of what is now called Egypt. From the pharaonic period to the 20th century, highlights are presented in the main exhibition hall. If you take your time to read, watch videos and observe you get a pretty good picture of the very rich and diverse civilizations that once blossomed in the country.

Though the royal mummies in the black painted basement attract a lot of attention, I did not particularly like it. The former rulers took a lot of effort to look in good shape when entering the divine world. They probably did not want their shrunken dark remains to end up in the cellars of a museum being watched at by thousands of tourists.

Overall I enjoyed my visit very much.

While on a dive vacation to the Red Sea we had several days to explore Cairo and one of our many stops was the National Museum. The sheer volume of antiquities is mind boggling. Getting to see King Tut for the second time (saw him when the exhibit used to travel the world) was a real treat. Wish we had more time there as it is truly impossible to see everything in one day. If you plan on visiting, make sure you have adequate time to truly explore all there is to see and learn.

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is a must see for understanding Egyptian civilization. This museum only opened a few years ago and is spectacular. Among its many treasures are 22 Royal Mummies. No photos are allowed in the Royal Mummies exhibit, but they did have a video presentation which showed scenes along the Nile and symbols of Egyptian civilization.

Egyptian civilization is among the most ancient in the world. The oldest manmade tools found in Egypt are over 2 million years old. You can see the skeleton of a 35,000 year old young man found buried near Nazlet Khater. Other treasures include the red pottery from the Naqada cultures (3800-3050 BC) and funerary masks that were placed over the mummified face of the deceased in order to identify them and to protect the body within.

Additional exhibits from the Museum of Egyptian Civilization included a display of cosmetics and gold jewelry. The Mizarahim (Eastern Jews) kept Torah scrolls in wooden cases called Tikim that were covered in velvet and decorated in silver. There were Torah cases that date from the late 19th century. Another exhibit showed a Holy Quran from the 19th century. Finally, there was an exhibit of folk heritage.

You will need at least two hours to see everything. Don't miss the additional exhibits in the side room.

Immerse yourself in antiquity at this expansive, air-conditioned museum that serves as a sanctuary of historical discovery. The initial exhibits on the first-floor pique interest with intriguing artifacts, laying the groundwork for the truly mesmerizing experience below. Venture to the lower level to unveil the museum's crown jewel—a remarkable preservation of history through its magnificent display of mummies from the illustrious Valley of the Kings. Each mummy, accompanied by a comprehensive biography and, in select instances, their original coffins, offers a unique gateway into the past.
Anticipation for our upcoming visit to the Valley of the Kings was elevated thanks to this insightful preview. It’s worth noting that while the upper level welcomes photography, the sanctity of the mummy exhibition is preserved by restricting it, enhancing the tranquility of the encounter. The quiet ambiance contrasts sharply with the dynamism of more frequented sites like the Museum of Antiquities, offering a serene haven for those seeking to engage more deeply with history.
This museum serves as an enlightening introduction to the treasures of the Valley of the Kings and stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Egypt’s ancient civilizations. A visit here promises a peaceful respite from the hustle and offers a moment of reflection among the echoes of antiquity.

This is the NMEC (National Museum of Egyptian Civilization), where the mummies of the pharaohs are on display. There are quite a few of them.
Simply put, the NMEC (National Museum of Egyptian Civilization) is an exhibition that covers the "Egyptian civilization" from prehistoric times to modern times, and displays many "mummies of famous pharaohs".
The big difference between this and the Egyptian Museum (Ancient Egyptian Art Museum), which anyone who visits Cairo will visit, is that it not only covers ancient Egyptian excavations, but also prehistoric excavations and modern times such as the Islamic period. The entire history of Egypt. It's wonderful.
The highlight of this museum is, without a doubt, the numerous "mummies of famous pharaohs (photography prohibited)". Personally, I was quite impressed that they managed to collect so many of them. I think it's worth visiting just to see these "mummies of the pharaohs".
I highly recommend the NMEC (National Museum of Egyptian Civilization) along with the Egyptian Museum (Ancient Egyptian Art Museum). I recommend it.
