Well curated and organized museum, hosted in an impressive palace. Splendid artifacts crafted during the time of Umayyad, Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluk and Ottoman rulers of Egypt are on display. The exhibition include ceramics, fabrics, carpets, ivory, woodcrafts, swords, guns, warrior armoires and helmets and even maritime instruments. By visiting this museum, one can make an idea about the rich Islamic history of Egypt. Descriptions available in both English and Arabic. It's important to mention that Cairo was one of the wealthiest cities in the world during the Mamluk rulers.

El Museo Islámico de El Cairo reabrio sus puertas al público exactamente dos años después de que un atentado terrorista contra una comisaria de policía adyacente destruyera parcialmente su fachada y varias piezas de su colección. De las 179 obras dañadas por la explosión, tan solo 10 no han podido ser reparadas, pues estaban hechas de cristal o cerámica y quedaron hechas trizas. Se encuentra en un edificio de estilo neo-mameluco cercano al popular bazar de Jan al-Jalili.
Posee más de 100.000 piezas, algunas de gran valor, como una espada que perteneció al profeta Mahoma. Hay salas de monedas, armas, manuscritos. un recinto que exhibe piezas de madera, cristal, metal y cerámica venidas de todo el mundo islámico, así como también antiguos manuscritos del Corán, ropa e incluso juguetes en una galería dedicada a explicar cómo vivía el ciudadano hace siglos.

Pasé un día en el museo y valió la pena. Fuí con la vana pretensión de admirar la maravillosa caligrafía en lengua árabe, y no es un buen sitio para eso. Lo que se exhibe es sobre todo objetos y restos arquitectónicos. Tienen expuestas tumbas, fuentes de jardín, ... Hay pocas cosas de fuera de Egipto. Tuve la suerte de ser recibido por una joven que se ofreció a enseñarme el museo (no a llevarme al bazar de su familia) y que con una extraordinaria paciencia me explicó y tradujo todo lo que le pedí. He quedado en deuda con ella por el tiempo y los conocimientos que gratuitamente me brindó.

Lovely, new, well lighted museum of Islamic Art which includes historical references. Excellent, uncrowded museum. We would rate this second to the newly opened Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Well worth an hour to 90 minutes!

Подскажите поседения данного музея остались очень довольно. Обратила внимание на то, что все экспонаты расставлены с большим вкусом, выглядят не как музейные экспонаты, а как Арт-объекты.

Spent about an hour here which was adequate time. Can take photos free with cell phone. Had a small tour by the museum which explained some of the highlights. Some items were damaged in a car-bomb attack on nearby police headquarters in 2014 and the building was heavily damaged. Reopened in 2017 and is purported to have one of the world's finest collections of Islamic art. Located on the edge of Islamic Cairo. Not a large museum but a quality one.

قطع فنية بديعة وفريدة من نوعها .. الكثير منها اجريت له عملية ترميم ... حلى وتماثيل وابواب خشبية مطعمة ومشغولات يدوية فائقة الجمال من العصر المملوكى والعثمانى من فارس وخرسان وحتى الصين كل قطعة تحمل صفحات من التاريخ .. يوجد المتحف فى منطقة باب الخلق واقرب محطة مترو العتبة وقريب ايضا من الازهر بارك

A real treasure trove of wonderful examples of Islamic arts. Whether you are interested in Islamic arts or not, this museum cannot fail to impress you. Wonderful calligraphy, wonderful mosaics, beautiful woodwork, golden pistols, etc. It shows the rich history of Islamic arts and is absolutely wonderful.
The museum is usually only sparsely frequented so you feel that you almost have the place to yourself. It's a rich repository of Islamic arts, relevant not only for Egypt but the whole world.

Well curated small museum, & far fewer tourists than the Egyptian Museum. Busy with school groups sketching displays at time of our visit (Sunday morning). Current adult entry 120 EGP. Egyptian history (medieval to early modern) summaries a very helpful part of the chronological exhibits. Displays include pottery (Egyptian & also Turkish tiles) metalware, woodwork, stonework, glassware, textiles (carpets & a little weaving). Museum shop very small.

We enjoyed a fairly quick walk through the highlights of the museum in 30 mins or so but you could easily spend spend much longer here if you had a particular interest in all the exhibits.
