What a gem! This tranquil spot in the middle of was the treat I needed from the bustle of Cairo. I went on my last day in Cairo and marveled at the space, layout, ambiance and just seeing people in Cairo celebrate their weddings and families in one spot. I throughly enjoyed the flora and walkways and most importantly the meal that sealed the deal at Citadel restaurant. At 45Egyptian pounds it's a steal.

Plan was to visit for a couple of hours but spent over 5 hours!!! The peace and beauty was amazing.
The skyline was amazing and so many different views available.
I sat in the citadel restaurant which was stunning and the food was so cheap but delicious. Sat and read my book and took in views.
Also lovely souvenir shop that you can leisurely look at , without pressure.
The real action is at the other end of the park where they have a cafe. This is where the locals hang out.
I went on a Friday and OHMG so many wedding couples and families come uptake pictures and celebrate. What a privilege to see local life playing out.
Children playing, families having picnics and tourists mingling in was such a joy.
Probably the best day out on this short trip.
Do not miss out!!

It is the great park of the city, where you can see the life of the inhabitants of Cairo especially in the evening. You forget a bit about chaotic Cairo

We visited Al Azhar Park on a Friday at 17:00 and it was beautifully busy. Families were out picnicking, roller blading, playing games etc. And there were a lot of wedding parties taking their official photographs. It felt like we were being included in a personal and precious part of the city’s community. We ate some really really good food at the gorgeous citadel view restaurant and, when the sun went down, the call to prayer rang out on all sides because the park is located in Islamic Cairo. It was a real experience being there and we loved it.

أجمل حديقه بالقاهرة وتستحق الزيارة، وجميل منظر غروب الشمس من أعلى مطل الحديقة وجميل نظافتها والاهتمام بها من قبل الدولة، تستحق الزيارة في مختلف الأوقات ويوجد بها كوفي ومطعم ومسجد ونافورة وممشى لذا لا يمكن تفويت فرصة زيارتها والتمتع بمنظر القاهرة من أعلى الحديقة .

Visited on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and was surprised by the number of visitors. Perhaps showing how popular the park meanwhile has become. Compared to seven years ago when I went here for the first time nothing else has changed much. Efforts to keep the park clean are still tremendous, as many people still throw their garbage around (probably without knowing the park was once a garbage dump). Anyway, Al Azhar park is a wonderful place. Well maintained with many trees, shrubs and flowers, green grassy spaces to sit and relax. City noise is far away and there are nice views from a few hilltops. Restaurants were very busy.

Our guide was very proud of Al Azhar Park. Converted from a garbage dump by the Aga Khan it was opened in 2005. It is 72 acre park in Old Cairo with views of the Citadel with a lake and water features. In February the flowers weren't spectacular but the green space, so rare in Old Cairo, was. There is a fee to enter. The Islamic Cairo tours with their little golf cart depart here. We ate at Studio Misr with views over Old Cairo to the Cairo Citadel. I also bought a nice little cushion cover in one of their two discrete craft shops, credit cards accepted.

The park is still one of my favorite destination in Cairo. The entry fees are still affordable to many persons. The gardens are still in a fine status but grassy areas need more care. Cleaning needs more efforts because of some visitors bad behaviors. The lake also needs more care. Generally, it is a very good place to visit and revisit and also not to be missed in Cairo.

Από όσο βλέπω η απόσταση από το ξενοδοχείο σας ως τον πύργο του Καϊρου δεν έιναι παρά ένα χιλιόμετρο και η απόσταση ως το πάρκο όχι περισσότερο από 400 μέτρα από το ξενοδοχείο που μέναμε επομένως νομίζω ότι δεν θα κοστίσει περισσότερο και σίγουρα όχι πάνω από 50 λίρες σε ώρα αιχμής ή 40 σε ώρα χωρίς πολύ κίνηση
