The building is stunning, the setting is lovely and the contents amazing. We were guided through the house and then had a four course lunch which was delicious.
Every space is crammed with artifacts, artwork, icons and all manner of items representing different African Cultures.
This was a pure delight and excellent value for money.

It wast like being in a Hollywood movie.
The tour guide was fantastic and knowledgeable and the artifacts collection was huge.
Plus every person should eat there. First the view over the Nairobi national park. Being seated in the balcony, with the view being as far as the eyes can see, over the savannas. The local food was just incredible, very interesting and different flavours, nothing I have eaten so far.
Really it's like a Hollywood movie. My advice is, the first thing anyone should do, after visiting the Nairobi national park (Is very important to understand what you are looking at, when eating at the African Heritage) is visiting and eating here.
Someone mentioned that the tour is over priced 4000 shillings and the tour guide was not informed well. That was one year ago. Firstly our guide, December 2022 was informed about every single artifact and there are thousands from all across Africa. So no, it is is not overpriced.

The house is artistic and rich in culture and each artifact piece collected has a story behind it. Juliet was Excellent and she took us through a guided tour using a recording done by the Late Allan.Zedekiah was welcoming, warm and happily served our lunch.
Mutiso makes the best chapatis in the world. If you ever take a tour in this house, pick the lunch option too. Makes sense to pay for the guided tour plus lunch package other than tour alone.

interesting. but the entrance price (4000 shillings) is very overpriced. The owner and founder died in December 2021. The staff was unable to conduct an interesting tour, in fact, they do not know anything about the exhibits.

Nothing beats a mid-morning tour with the acclaimed Allan Donovan explaining each of the artefacts in his labor of love crib! It’s a rich display of African art and culture, each room specially curated with hand picked pieces. Getting to do the tour with Allan you can touch the pieces and ask questions about their origins and the tours.
The house has excellent views as it overlooks Nairobi National Park & the new SGR line passes close to the park.
The staff who work there are very friendly as well & treated us to a sumptuous meal for lunch after our tour.
This makes for an excellent tour between flights even if all you have is a layover in Nairobi since it’s close to the airport.
Advisable to go with friends for cost savings since a tour is 4,000 for a min group of 4 ; you can opt to add lunch at the end of the tour or even an overnight stay, rates are on their website.

I am between flights and went to see this museum. Unfortunately they do not have a website (or I did not find it) nor thought of checking on Tripadvisor first. They asked for 4000 shillings, which seemed excessive since I was alone, for a guided tour. There is no other way to see this place, they will not let you in if you do not buy the guided tour. No wonder there were no other visitors.

I have been to the African Heritage House at least 4 different times on visits to Nairobi. I wouldn’t miss it for the world! It is visiting a personal museum where you can touch, sit on, and question about every item. The tour gives an overview of many of the items and then you can ask Alan Donavon, the curator, collector, owner, about how and when he obtained the unbelievable pieces of art. It is undeniably the best collection of African art in the world! Having Alan retell his stories of when he obtained them add even more to the experience. If you stay overnight, (which I would recommend in order to truly see everything), you will be sleeping in a true museum. Drinks or tea are served in the beautiful adjoining pool house. We had an outstanding lunch, with wine, on the front porch overlooking Nairobi NationalPark. This is a hidden gem that one must not miss!

African herritage house is a house like no other! Offering excellent views of the park and beautiful displays of rich African Art and Culture. Every aesthete traveller should aim to visit this gem at least once in their lifetime. See the full video of my tour of the house on the video linked as website on my profile!

Simply the most incredible experience we had in all of Kenya. Alan, the owner, has amassed the largest collection of African artwork in which he has created his home. Each room is a museum of African art in itself - we learned so much about African culture during our stay. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous overlooking the Nairobi national park. The staff were simply amazing, the delicious home cooked meals were the best we tasted in Kenya. I highly recommend staying at the African Heritage House to anyone looking for a genuinely cultural African experience.

House & garden: gorgeous house with really interesting architecture and lush gardens. Collections are interesting and extensive. It’s a real oasis to get away from Nairobi.
Food: dinner was outstanding food! Guys who work there are friendly.
Overnight: Spent one night. House is more like a gallery or museum, not really set up to host overnight guests. Unfortunately the new train goes right by the house so it was hard to sleep during the night - 3 very loud trains went by. Better for me would have been just to go to lunch and enjoy the house and garden.

It’s 4000 which is unfair as they charge you that if you are 1 person or group of 4 for the same price. They should reconsider their entrance fees if you are alone and not in group

My adult daughter and I plan on staying 1-2 nights in Nairobi mid Aug to mid Sept., 2016. Dates aren't set in concrete yet. Can you give me a rough idea of the costs for staying overnight?

Hi I don't have the logistics about staying there I know it's Alan Donovan's house. I just went sight seeing nothing major. But I believe he can arrange something for you and your daughter.
