长洲岛在行政上是香港十八区之中的离岛区。长洲岛的岛形非常的奇特，岛形狭长而且两头比较大，中间又比较细，因此被成为长洲岛。长洲岛位于香港的西南面，是离岛区人口最稠密的岛屿了。长洲岛早在香港岛和九龙岛繁荣之前因渔港以及贸易船只而停留在此使这里成为繁荣地。后来贸易中心被转移到了香港和九龙，但是渔港的面目仍然没有一丝的变化，还是依然保存着渔港原先的面貌了，从而这里也已经成为了长洲岛景点了。长洲岛不仅自然风光无限优美，而且有长洲石刻、新兴街、北社街等一些人文景观。虽然，长洲岛的面积不大，再岛上只能行走，在市街对面都是以渡轮码头的街道为中心，街上古来的店铺、路边密集的摊位看起来很热闹，吸引了很多来长洲岛旅游的人们。

长洲岛像是在八九十年开展过城镇化建设的渔村，海边是待港的渔船，岛上建筑三四层小楼，有沙细水蓝的海滩，有各种餐饮店、购物小店。本地居民老年人比较多，好多间养老院，适合退休养老居住。有些地方做成了网红景点，有年轻人、游客来打卡，是个没被完全商业化包装、还有当地居民生活状态的离岛，节奏很舒服。

长洲系一个美食好地方😋嚟过呢到3，4次，每次都要食佢嘅鱼蛋，芒果糯米糍😋今次仲有佢嘅榴梿糯米糍，都好正👍🏻同埋要食红豆车轮饼，都好好味😋除咗食之外仲有去沙滩睇海景，尤其日落嘅时候，海景更加靓～今次仲有去张保仔洞，不过入面好窄🙈

中环坐半小时的船已能到达的休闲小岛, 既可在海滨散步,也可走远一点上山远足长洲出名多美食，尤其有海边有海鲜街，有抵食海鲜套餐。长洲小食也很有名，芒果糯米粒，大鱼蛋。

长洲是我最不喜欢的香港景点。对我来说这里的人口太多了，根本就没有足够的空间可以容下。相比之下，我更喜欢大屿山、南丫岛和坪洲群岛，因为那里有很多的自然空间！虽然那些地方的食物不怎么样，但有一些非常漂亮的寺庙!人们也很友善!

Thinking of visiting the island on the last week of christmas. Is this a good time to visit? Or will it be very crowded? I heard it’s crowded during weekends but will it be a lot more crowded during the last week of christmas? Since it is peak season? Thank you

Yes you'll always get a lock with a rented bike. Bear in mind it'll be a cable lock and you'll only be able to lock the rear wheel to the frame- but it's a very safe island so you'll have nothing to worry about 😄

Swimming is allowed. Several beaches. Recommend the beach with the beach cafe past Warwick hotel and after the surf shop.
Stay in. B&B. Also several holiday rental apartments.

How much time do i need? We will be staying at Novotal Citygate and plan to pop by after we checked in on our way back from Macau. Is half day sufficient for us ? What time is the last ferry back to Mui Wo? Need time according to the bus ride back to Tung Chung.

Hi Maxychong, half day is good enough to explore the island, unless you want to spend the night there. The latest ferry leaving the island to Central is 23:45 weekdays , but the last ferry from Central to Mui Wo is 23:00. Check the time table and adjust your stay.

Lamma Island is more for hiking while Cheung Chau has quite a few things to see, seafood also tasty.. for children who cant endure long hikes, Cheung Chau is the preferred option

Supposely it suits all ages.. Just stay 1-2 nights, it's enough.
Meals, drinks, beaches, walking, hiking, village, they got everything.

Is the island stroller friendly? My 13-month old will be traveling with us and it would be great if we can push her on the stroller although we are open to babywearing her. Thanks!

Yes, you will be able to use the stroller, but for your own sake bring something for babywearing as well if you want to se the beautiful sights and views from 'the mini Great Wall' up on the mountain (would be a shame to miss but come early so you can take your time as it's quite a walk if the weather is hot. Enjoy your stay :)

How do we get around the island, there will be a group of 7 people traveling together to do a day trip there

You probably have to walk as there are no cars. There are push bikes but I am not sure there are any for hire. The only electric vehicle I saw was an ambulance. It may be possible to hire an electric vehicle but I could not see anywhere to do this. To be honest this is a small island. Where the ferry lands the island is at its most narrow and to walk across to the public beach (Tung Wan) is a matter of two hundred metres. If you want to get to the pirate's cave you can walk about 1 - 1.25 miles from the ferry or get a boat from the nearby marina. To get to the viewpoint at the south east of the Island is a fairly short walk from the public beach via afternoon beach so if you are reasonably fit and take lots of water and mossie spray and have sensible shoes it should be possible for most people as is getting to the beaches at the south end. To walk right the way around the south of the island from the ferry and back again may be about 4-5 miles If you want more precise local information you could try e-mailing the owner of the Cheung Chau Garden gift shop (the website should have an emial address which I am not allowed to post here)
