It must be only disgruntled customers that leave negative reviews, three visits to Hong Kong and we have not had a bad experience. Enjoyed short rides around Kowloon and HK Island again when visiting in November. More expensive than the bus certainly but when time is limited, we found taxis convenient to use and the drivers helpful. Cabs were clean and well maintained. Hotel arranged our taxi to the Airport on 14th November when services had scaled back due to typhoon conditions. We enjoyed a smooth ride although little conversation from the driver. Very helpful with baggage and directions when we arrived and ensured that we had minimal walking distance to inside the terminal.

Just be careful these guys are sneaky. They give you a card that says your estimated fares between 290 to 295 HKD from the airport to Tsim Shack Shui hotel but then they don’t tell you that doesn’t include a toll road charge and extra charge just for having luggage from coming out of the airport, which adds an extra 60 HKD

MTR queues were too long so tried grabbing a cab with a colleague. The driver spoke no English and could not read maps, managed to eventually communicate an MTR station near where we wanted to go, then of course he did not accept cards, epayment or octopus, only cash. Another freind coming from mainland was driven part way to a police station when the driver had said he accepted cards when my freind got in, then when he got to the hotel the driver said cash only (and he only had RMB), driver literally started driving to the police when he said only card or RMB. Avoid taxis at all costs, the cars are often falling apart, stink of smoke, drivers are rude and speak no English as well as only taking cash. Use Uber, or MTR, just avoid HK taxis

My hotel to airport trip
First, the driver got out of the car to drop the bags and left the number open, then he manually increased the number and pulled with him and removed the extra amount and the total amount of $316, and he gave him $320, and he quickly hid $300 and left 20 in his hand. He said you gave me only $20 and I yelled at him, and I want him now $4 coupon by giving me $2, and I didn't get out of the car until I took the other $2
Fix by metro or uber and you can easily and safely get anywhere

Don't use taxi in Hongkong. Use Uber instead.
We took a taxi from LKF to Our Hotel, the driver took us to the wrong hotel with the same name, and after when we continued to the right destination, he was not following Google map and not taking the proper turns even when he was told to. So we asked him to stop at the middle of the road and took a metro(train) instead.
We had one bad experience but it makes our experience bitter with HongKong taxi.
Driver are ripping off innocent people who don't know the language. 😡
I request Hongkong police to do some sincere investigation and take action against such drivers.

My taxi experiences when I visited Hong Kong were all HORRIBLE! The drivers were rude and disrespectful. I had one driver harass me, I got into the taxi and he was sweating in Cantonese the whole time thinking I couldn’t understand it. When I finally got to my destination the taxi driver said to me “I don’t take cash only octopus” I said I only have cash as taxis normal ONLY take cash. He then began to swear at me saying horrible things like “I hate fuvking cash, fuvk cash, cash is ruining my life, fuvk you” He aggressively snatched the cash out of my hand and said “ Fuvk off”. The number plate was RM 178. Do not take taxi the drivers are very rude.

I revisit HK. every year or two prior to covid for leasure but less now. My review covers my experience of the red / green taxis over many years. I'd say most taxi drivers have a mean spirit and a poor attitude. One driver had corrected my rusty Cantonese in front of my family, which as an adult, I found very condescending and mean spirited. So I avoid using taxi's except as a last resort. The fares are cheap for a international city starting at $2-3 US, but you must endure the poor service and load / unload your own luggage. Also, you may be asked to alight a distance from your preferred drop off point and cross busy roads with your suitcases to reach your hotel. On another occasion, I was late for an appointment and the taxi I flagged down refused to take me 1km (2 stops on the metro) saying "you yourself know how to ride the metro" which was rude and unnecessary since it was a quiet time in the day. Warning, use at your own peril.

Tired after a couple of flights and 4-hour stopover between and decided to use the taxi service from the airport to our hotel. As we were headed to Kowloon we took the Urban Red Taxi. Clean, helpful and expert driver and informative on various attractions that interested us during our visit. Taxi official at airport supplied us with a card noting the taxi number, our trip summary and estimate of fare in case of any impropriety by the driver. No worries in this respect, just great friendly service.

I took a short trip in NT with the NT taxi (green taxi), the meter showed $20.50. I found the driver accepted the fare using Octopus Card and i paid with the Octopus Card. There was no display of the actual payment and balance of my card on the payment machine.
I only found out later in the evening that I was charged $235 which was 10 times of the amount of the actual fare. Be VERY CAREFUL with those doggy taxi drivers in Hong Kong. Always pay cash, ask for a receipt and check the change after payment before you leave the taxi. I was later told by my friends there are a lot of those taxi drivers in Hong Kong and is getting worse as there is almost no tourism due to COVID therefore they just want to rob people with every opportunities they found.

I live in Hong Kong as a expat. I would strongly recommend the Hong Taxis. I have taken the red, blue and green taxis across the SAR. The drivers are professional and friendly. The cars are clean.
Most importantly, I have accidentally left a wallet with my credit cards once and a phone the there time. Both were returned to me by the driver. I would take a Hong Kong Taxi any time.

Our first time in Hong Kong. We planned to take the taxi to Sky100 by taxi. We got in a taxi right outside the hotel. We gave him the adress and name of the place, he looked at it and didn’t say anything. He still didnt know it, but drove. He drove like 3 - 5 meter. He talked to us in English we both couldnt understand in mad voice. We repeated the address and showed him the place again. He yelled at us many times when we ask him to repeat two times what he said about which tunnel and all that. When we said that we couldn’t understand him, but showed the adress, name of the place and all again When he ask us which tunnel and all that, we didn’t know so we said we don’t understand. He suddenly take a turn to the left, open the door and kicked us out while yelling. First time in Hong Kong, and I will never take taxi here ever again If I’m going here again.
