The tall, encompassing Kwun Yam is probably a landmark of Repulse Bay, the most famous beach in Hong Kong. Chinese folklore says that the feminine god brings peace and fortune. The garden around the statue includes some interesting Chinese artworks as well.

At the southeastern end of the Repulse Bay Beach, you'll find a statue park located around the Hong Kong Life Saving Society (HKLSS) building. Standing in front are two roughly 10 metre tall statues of Kun Iam (on the left) and Tin Hau (on the right) when facing the HKLSS building.

Note: Many maps and sources of tourist information identify this location as the Kun Iam and/or Tin Hau Temple of Repulse Bay. It is not actually a temple but the HKLSS building instead. However, given its red glazed tile exterior and the vast quantity of colourful statues representing figures of gods, goddesses and auspicious figures of Chinese origin that are scattered throughout its grounds, it is easy to understand why many view this as a temple.

The statue of Kun Iam is a typical standing pose of the goddess of mercy. she is robed in white and teal blue and standing on a lotus structure. There is a plaque with information just next to the statue, upon which stands a small golden dragon staring upwards at the goddess.

In addition to viewing the Kun Iam Statue for a minute or two, it is also worth seeing the sister statue of Tin Hau on the opposite side of the HKLSS building. Amongst many other interesting figures, there is also a notable Longevity Bridge and Pavilion of Longevity nearby. These are worth seeing while you explore the area grounds as well.

This is part of a large and curious collection of shrines and statues, alongside the Lifeguards’ Pavilion at the far end of Repulse Bay Beach.
It’s a colourful and chaotic collection but it’s also very easy to miss because it’s tucked away at the far south end of the beach. For several years, I didn't even know it was there.
Kwun Yum is the towering, white goddess on the left hand side of temple facing the beach. At 10 metres tall, she looks a bit intimidating. In fact she is the Goddess of mercy, a compassionate god who is associated with love and devotion and is known for comforting and listening to those who are sick, suffering or distressed. Pearls are draped at her feet to represent purity and the moon.
The other giant god is Tin Hau, known for protecting fishermen. Closer to the water you will find the red Longevity Bridge surrounded by several larger-than-life mythical figures. A giant golden fish is being ridden by a small boy and a set of curly-horned rams stand at the water’s edge.
A whole host of superstitions and traditions are tied up with the area. Cross the Longevity Bridge and get 3 years added to your life, throw a coin into the mouth of the Fish of Prosperity and it will bring you good luck, rub the head of the God of Wealth to improve your fortunes or tie a red ribbon around the rock if you are looking to get married.

...because I’d been to Repulse Bay so many times before but had never noticed this large collection of statues and buildings at the eastern end of the beach. The weather-beaten condition of each surface shows what a toll HK’s weather takes on concrete but that makes it possibly feel a little more (dare I say it? ‘authentic’...no better not) interesting a space than it otherwise might, as it’s clear that it’s not really that old a temple, even compared to nearby buildings. The range of creatures and characters is quite impressive and the bridge probably looks even better when the tide is in.

FIRST OF ALL... This is NOT A TEMPLE!!! At best, you can say its a shrine but it is Definitely NOT a TEMPLE!!! More of a tourist display of various gods of Buddha/Toaism. People mistake the building to be a temple... but its offices for the life guards. I would not go out of my way to visit this unless I plan to go swimming or dinning nearby. Beautiful ocean view but do not come here to pray.
