The Wan Chai market is a bustling stretch buzzing with locals, so a lot of the vendors are selling more everyday items as opposed to souvenirs, and this time year, anything for the upcoming Chinese New Year
Still, the vendors aren't hawking, they seemed to care less.
Good spot to pick up a coffee and enjoy the local atmosphere even if you don't plan on shopping.

I enjoyed walking around here. More to browse, but it had a lovely local bustling vibe. Vendors are not pushy. In all honesty, most items were cheap junk but go for the vibe and to see a local market. There are various parts where you have fruit and vegetables, clothing, meat, fish and more. Reasonably clean.

If you have several days in Hong Kong, Wan Chai is worth exploring. It is still one of those places where you can see old and modern Hong Kong, sitting cheek by jowl. The outdoor markets cover several streets and are best explored by going for a wander.
The wet market (food) is mostly along Cross St and Wan Chai Rd. It may not be for the squeamish but you’ll see the full range of traditional foods from live chickens to dried seafood. Alongside stalls of ‘1000 year old eggs’, there will be racks of salted fish, tanks of live fish, and unfamiliar sea creatures. Open-air butchers wield large bloodied cleavers and hang carcasses on hooks in the open air whilst next door, live chickens are sold.
Cross St intersects with Tai Yuen St which is nicknamed Toy Street. In fact there are only about half a dozen toy shops at most, with cheap and cheerful toys. Children looking to spend pocket money will find something here (action figures, collectible cards, Lego-like blocks, dolls, stickers etc). Mainly the stalls on Tai Yuen St sell beads, trinkets, jade-like ornaments, orchids, cheap clothing, souvenirs and so on. It’s a fun place to wander with a lot of local colour. However if you have a shopping list and you are after a market with handbags, shoes and gifts, then you are better off going to Mong Kok Ladies Market.

One of the interesting inclusions of the Wan Chai Heritage Trail is stop (C) the open-air street market located around the intersection of Cross Street and Tai Yuen Street in the heart of the the district of Wanchai. This is one of the largest outdoor markets on Hong Kong Island and an interesting place to explore as part of your self-walk along the Heritage Trail.
What you find along the Cross Street & Tai Yuen Street Market is a mix of a traditional wet market as well as an informal Toy Market as well. First, Cross Street is lined with food venders and shops selling all manner of fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood and other food items. You'll also see flowers and other items of interest. The market is active from mid-morning to late in the afternoon and is very photogenic. This wet (food) market merges with Tai Yuen Street which is informally called Toy Street in Wanchai. Shops here are filled with toys & collectables that make for very interesting but crowded shops to enter and look around.
Combined this street market scene is quite interesting, well worth 15-30 minutes of your time when taking in the various historic stops along the Wan Chai Heritage Trail.

We had a wander around the market today. Definitely worth a visit. There is lots of things for sale in the market. The locals shop there for their meat and veg. There is also a small indoor area too. If you are in the area pop along and wander. The flowers were beautiful.

This a very local market in Wan Chai and not far from Times Square and it has some character and is interesting although you might question some of the food and how it is stored and handled particularly in hot humid weather.Worth a visit to have a look but eat in the hotel
