The mansion, in the Republica neighbourhod, was built by a Belgian businessman. It has since been the Spanish Embassy, part of the university of Chile, the centre for telephone surveillance during the dictatorship and now this museum. It is a beautiful setting for this collection.
Only a small part of the 2800 item collection is displayed. Many prominent South American artists and others have donated works. When we were there, the emphasis was on textile art. We spent a lovely hour there.

In this place we learn better the tragic history not only of Chile, but other Latin American countries during Cold War... it's a must visit place in Santiago!

The venue is in a delightful area of old homes and university activity that a tourist would probably not visit except for the museum. The building is very nicely developed. The staff is friendly and helpful. I appreciated learning about this history of support from the international art community in solidarity with the movement for freedom. The documentation of the artists' donations is interesting. The website mentions a collection of 1300 works. However, from what we saw, the number displayed is only a small fraction. I had the impression that perhaps the exhibited works rotate, which is fine for locals, but disappointing for tourists. Only a few really exceptional works were on display when we visited.

This is a great little museum in a quiet neighborhood, filled with fascinating exhibitions around art and resistance in Allende's day. Would highly recommend for everyone with an interest in the intersection of art and politics. Only con is that most of the museum is in Spanish, so if you can't understand it might not be as impactful; however, I'm only basically functional in Spanish and was still able to enjoy the museum and appreciate its message. This museum was definitely one of the highlights of my Santiago trip.

Museu um pouco fora do circuito turístico tradicional, mas muito importante para conhecer a história chilena recente. Museu criado no governo Allende, com a curadoria de Mário Pedrosa. teve suas obras de arte sequestradas e desaparecidas nos anos de ditadura Pinochet. Com a redemocratização, o Museu voltou a existir, com parte das obras recuperadas, a mais significante a pintura de Miró.

Ubicado en el barrio República cerca del centro de Santiago. Es interesante, aunque no se si para todos.Tiene información del Ex Presidente Dr. Salvador Allende y de su gobierno, incluyendo algunos objetos personales. la información solo está en español. Existe una colección pequeña de obras de arte, donadas en época del Gobierno de la Unidad Popular. Destaca un Miró y un gran Matta, con historia propia. La casa museo es muy linda y con mucha historia. estacionamiento cerca, pagado. no cobran entrada.

la nostra guida parla di un museo con oltre 2.000 opere di Picasso, Miro, Tapies, Matta. Abbiamo trovato una graziosa villa con una mostra temporanea non interessante. La permanente invece di 2.000 opere ne mostrava 20/30 tutte di autori a me sconosciuti e, sinceramente, assolutamente non interessanti.

Este museo recoge las simpatías y apoyos de distintos trabajadores culturales al proyecto transformador de la U. Popular. Recoge también las obras de apoyo de connotados artistas al período de resistencia a la dictadura. Simbólicamente la casa donde está emplazada hoy , fue recuperada , después de haber sido un centro de torturas y detención en los tiempos de Pinochet.

Esta bueno para conocer algo distinto. Hay obras que llaman mucho la atencion. Lo malo es que la seguridad del lugar te sigue constantemente a todos lados que vayas, controlandote.

I loved my time at the museum, like the TARDIS "it's was so big on the inside", inspiring, thought provoking, though there were a couple of displays, where I had to capitulate my Spanish simply wasn't good enough, the overall feeling was very good indeed
