Up Close with an Icon of Quito

The 125’ silver metal statue of the Virgin Mary is visible from almost anywhere in Quito. I cheated and took an Uber from across town rather than walk up the many stairs to view the impressive statue. This site on a hill provides an amazing panorama of the city before you and you get a sense of how the city grew along the narrow valley. Visiting the El Panecillo is free but it is well worth the single dollar it will cost you to go inside the statue to view how it is constructed, see pictures of its being put together and ascending to the 360 degree walkway for unimpeded views of the valley and city. A wonderful experience. Once I was there and saw the Cathedral in the distance, I decided to walk down the stairs, along the street up to the Cathedral and complete the experience.

La experiencia de visitarlo es muy linda. Las visas son espectaculares. También hay lugar donde sentarse y disfrutar el paisaje. Me encantaría que la comida fuera más variada, de más calidad y ma organizado (está cerca de la escultura).

Atardecer en La Virgen del Panecillo: Un ícono cultural y turístico de Quito

Sacale partido a esta visita! Viajar para ver el atardecer en la Virgen del Panecillo en Quito es una experiencia inolvidable. La vista panorámica desde la cima de la colina es espectacular, especialmente cuando el sol se pone y los colores del cielo cambian gradualmente hasta apreciar como la tarde va dando paso a la noche.

Si planeas visitar la Virgen del Panecillo, te recomiendo que vayas temprano para asegurarte de tener tiempo suficiente para explorar la estatua y los jardines. Luego, sube hasta el mirador y recorre el museo interno que te cuenta la historia arquitectónica de esta obra, finalmente cuando llegues al mirador situate mirando hacia el norte y espera hasta el atardecer para disfrutar de las vistas impresionantes.

Después de visitar la virgen, hay muchos lugares cercanos para disfrutar de una cena, un canelazo o un vino hervido lo que lo convierte en una noche perfecta en Quito. Sin duda, recomiendo que cualquier visitante de Quito incluya la Virgen del Panecillo en su lista de lugares para ver el atardecer.

Visible from practically anywhere in the city

Visible from practically anywhere in the city on a hill of the same name. Too far and steep for walking, a $3 taxi ride from the historic centre to the top for wonderful views of the city and quite a few tourist stalls selling trinkets, souvenirs, woollen clothes etc. Just a short stop for the views, so for $6 or 8/10 with a tip hold the taxi for a short while for the return journey

The chapel is small. Better to look outside from inside. But it's only $1 so it's worth it. Be careful of the dog poops.

Vista panorâmica de Quito

Colina no centro de quito, onde se tem uma bela vista panorâmica da cidade além de vários vulcões que rodeiam Quito. No topo da colina há uma estátua da Virgem protetora da cidade.
No mês de dezembro, há uma feira com artesanado e comidas típicas aos pés da virgem.

Nutzt am Abend einen Besuch

Fahrt gegen 17 Uhr mit dem Taxi oder uber hoch. Dann habt ihr bei Tag und ab 18 Uhr bei Dunkelheit einen wunderschönen Blick über Quito. Außerdem ist nicht so viel los. Am Tag sind einige Stände mit Souvenirs und Essen nebenan. Ihr könnt auch oben den Platz für ein Picknick nutzen.

Tip: fahrt mit Taxi oder uber hoch. Uns wurde aufgrund der gefährlichen Gegend mehrfach abgeraten hoch zu laufen. Ober schien alles sicher.

It is totally worth the experience

The ride is totally worth it. The view of the city is amazing from the top. The tallest aluminium statue is so beautifully placed with such beautiful details. Hiking up on the mountain is one amazing journey. If you are not a hiker, taxis are available to take you to the top.

It catches your eye from all angles from the old city
