It was the first time I went to the Amazon rainforest and really surprised by the height of the trees. Another surprise is the foot of the tree because it is gigantic compared to its trunk and it is not circular. Another surprise is the size of the vines, I thought their diameters were smaller. In the forest I thought our Guide was advancing by cutting the bushes and making his way through. But that was not my case. In fact I would say that it’s like in France, I drove on hiking trails. A little disappointed but it is also true that at the security level you can not venture into the forest and moreover without Guide. As these were paths drawn, I cannot say that I saw many animals. The Guide tells me that when I walk unintentionally on a spider, I simply crush it and there is no danger on this trail. In fact, I did not see any snakes, perhaps because of the noise of our group. I actually saw monkeys and understood that the height of the trees is impressive. In short, I do not regret my adventure in the forest and it was for me a nice discovery

We spent 4 days in the jungle with our guide Joel from Capinurí, he was excellent, he answered all our questions, he taught us a lot about the flora and fauna of that area, he accompanied us on all the excursions, without a doubt the best guide, thank you Joel for everything!!!!!!..🙂

We got off the plane into the harsh heat and humidity of the amazonian rainforest and took a boat down the amazonian basin river where we were fed localized ingrediants for their version of Chinese food and let me tell you. Eating food out of a amazon leaf bigger than my own head was incredible it taste so pure and so full of nutrients I couldnt help but ask for seconds and thirds. We reached our hidewaway resort in the jungle and were surrounded by nature and life from howler monkeys yelling in the distance to the birds that make a water drop like noise that haunts and echoes through the entire forest. An elderly lady sprained her ankle so my younger brother and I took her back to the resort cabins and took the oppurtunity to run. We ran off into the forest on our own adventure much like the forests we have at home we found old abandoned mining carts and railroads leading to mines we found climbeable trees that led hundreds of feet into the air that overlooked the jungle where we sat and watched the sun set over the amazonian basin. When we returned to the resort they had just begun a search and rescue effort to find us so we were lucky they didnt have to put that much effort into us but told us everything that lives out there can and will kill us but who cares, we only experience what we dare ourselves to achieve. By far my favourite part of the trip. Food was prepped by students from around the world learning how to cook the best of meals so everything was incredible. No electricity for heated showers so when you take a shower as a man expect your balls to hide inside your body as you struggle to breathe through the shock of how cold it is but it is refreshing. Our beds in the cabins had mesh around it to protect us from bugs and spiders and snakes which was really nice. On a night tour I spotted a wandering spider as the tour guide missed it I had my attention focused. Scary place but my god Id continue to go back there if I could every year.

I have to say I hit the cold spell of this place. Good part is no bug spray needed. Even tho it was less of animals because of weather it was still so beautiful and peaceful. I still got to see the black and the white caimans, monkeys and even heard the howling monkey at 5am(didn't know what it was at first) I loved the tour of all the medicinal plants. Everything I saw or experienced was really worth it.

Did 4 days / 3 nights with Inkaterra. Absolutely incredible from the pick up at Puerto Maldonado airport through to our return. To the airport where the staff stayed with us until we checked through the departure gate. I can’t fault a thing. Amazing service provided by every single person we came in contact with. Fabulous excursions, quality food and accommodation. Worth every penny and so very very glad we went with them. Very safe and safety conscious and a highlight.

Been to Amazon, Peru 2 years ago. It was amazing experience. Stayed for 3 days. Woke up at 3am took a boat ride to see the sunrise. Must see the sunset too. First time fishing Piranah and the tour guide cooked it deep fried served as dinner.

We have just returned from an incredible 3 nights at the two lodges, which has easily been the highlight of our trip to Peru.
The accommodation in both lodges was exceptional, certainly up there with the best either of us we have stayed in. From welcome drinks and hot towels, to twice daily maid service and the rooms themselves, everything about this place illustrated a five star service.
From the moment we stepped on the bus at the airport until we left them 4 days later, our guides were always enthusiastic about wildlife and made the seemingly long journeys as enjoyable as the excursions. We saw a wide variety of wildlife, including many birds, monkeys, caiman and even an anteater. TRC’s remote location in particular seems to provide a huge opportunity to see wildlife. Even better, our guides would take pictures on our phones through their telescopes, giving us many excellent pictures to remember our trip with.
The food was always plentiful, with 3 large meals each day. The porter service allowed us to just relax, with the company taking care of our every need. We were particularly impressed that our boarding passes had been printed in advance as we arrived back to the office. They really went the extra mile and took care of our every need.
Whilst the price may be off putting, this is clearly an ethical company (using renewable energy and biodigradable resources whenever possible) that provides full value for money. Unlike other companies we’ve encountered in our time here, there were no hidden costs and it never felt as though they were taking advantage of us.
Overall a fantastic experience that we would highly recommend.

Rainforest Expeditions provides a wonderful, low-stress way to see the Amazon. Right from when the company picks you up from the Puerto Maldonado airport, it's clear they are professional, well-practiced, and knowledgable.
My wife and I stayed for 5 days, so we were able to visit both the Refugio and Tambopata Research Center, both of which are impressive hotels that are open to the jungle. When they say "open to the jungle", the company really means it: there are 3 walls and one totally open—not net. Thus, travelers better be comfortable with some amount of insects getting into the hotel and room. The upside is beautiful views and jungle sounds, right in your hotel room. The lodges are beautiful in themselves, and include a bar, hammocks, and massages for the downtimes guides bake into the schedule. The food, too, is spectacular: an array of Peruvian dishes, well-executed and delicious.
Each set of visitors is paired with a guide. Ours was named Angel, and he was personable and extremely good at spotting wildlife and leading us on hikes. Angel had an encyclopedic knowledge of birds, monkeys, insects, and plant life, and peppering in a lot of information about the Peruvian people that still dwell in the jungle.
We learned a great deal, and had a great time.

Had my Amazon experience courtesy of Cayman Lodge Puerto Maldonado 4 days no power only candles for light and no hot water for showers the water was from the river and cold.No air conditioning and nets to keep the bugs away while you slept.Flushing toilets .Generated power from 5 - 9 pm for charging of electrical devices.Electricity is only available in the main lodge.
It was hot humid and dank. Not for the faint hearted or 5 star lover.
I loved the place
On arrival which is via a motorised canoe down the river you are met by your assigned guide who will be with you for the duration of your stay.He will also be the one that takes you for guided walks into the jungle
The first night was celebrated with a night jungle walk so equipped with boots(suppled by the lodge) a head lamp and off we go like Uncle Arthur.
Having slugged through mud and avoiding spiky tree trunks the night shows us tarantulas,a possum looking creature,so many insects, and much more mud
The day hike to the lake which involved wading through water that came to the top of the boot, slushing through mud and straddling over fallen trees also revealed leaved carrying ants, spiders, birds, little bats and monkeys. We saw walking tees and spiky trees
On arrival at the lake we board a small motorized canoe and go up river and we are lucky enough to see the giant otter even though it was brief
Returning to a special site the fishing line is dropped and although no one but the guide caught a piranha we are all pleased to have seen one up close and personal Thats dinner sorted
On returning to where we boarded the canoe we have our provided lunch and a rest before returning to the lodge
The meals are very filling and enjoyable not one breakfast, lunch or dinner was repeated
Unfortunately the rain arrived on the last day and therefore was unable to go see the parrots at the claylick but experienced an Amazonian rain the place flooded The rain thunder and lighting started the night before and did not stop till midday. But what a display of mother nature
An experience that I am glad I was able to have but glad to get back to a dry environment. While at the lodge if clothing got wet it stayed wet nothing got dry so dank so first stop when back in civilization was the laundry
The common phase was "I am going to burn these clothes except that they are so wet they will not burn"
I often thought of the movie with Shawn Connery the one where he is up in the treetops with the bromalides while I was wading through the jungle

What is the difference between Iquitos part of Amazon and Peurto Maldanado part of Amazon.
We will be in Cusco. So is it worth flying to Iquitos to see that part or just take the short ride to peurto Maldanado?? Please suggest. Thanks in advance
