Guys... it's not even the original environment for creating the music. It was only made about where the original was. I don't know how to describe it... it's a room measuring about 5 by 10 meters... maybe I exaggerated. The only thing that was worth it was the theory of the creation of tango told by the guide. It was part of the palace tour...which wasn't worth it either...it was 45 minutes poorly invested.

La Giralda was the bar where, in 1917, tango was born when “La Cumparsita,” composed by Gerardo Matos Rodriguez, was played for the first time. The bar was leveled when Palacio Salvo was built, but the museum has been constructed on its ground floor in the exact place where the original bar stood. Our guide, who was friendly, energetic, and extremely knowledgeable, gave us all the history of tango in perfect English. She was delightful! The bar was, originally, open only to men who danced the tango as a dueling exercise. It was “fighting music.” Soon prostitutes developed seductive dances to the tango to engage the men, so tango has always been a combination of fighting and sexual play. Eventually upper-class women wanted to learn the dance, so respectable ballrooms were developed. After the introduction we were escorted into the intimate café in the museum where we enjoyed a glass of wine and a private tango exhibition by a very talented dancing couple. It was the perfect introduction to tango!

At Independence Square, you will see a tall building dominating the area. This is the Palacio Salvo. Inside that building the Tango Museum of Montevideo is open to the public,.
It details the history of La Cumparsita and Uruguayan Tango. Matos Rodriguez, a Uruguayan, wrote a musical piece, in 1918, called “La Cumparsita,” or “The Little Parade.”
Matos knew his song was popular in Argentina and Uruguay, but it wasn’t until he was in Paris in 1925 when he heard his song with different lyrics. It was now called “Si Susperas.” Matos spent the next two decades to regain the copyright in 1948.
Carlos Gardel made it more popular with his amazing voice. There is a statue of him not too far away from the Tango museum. You can find it on TripAdvisor as well.

Pequeno porém incrível!
Fui ao Palácio Salvo e vi o pequeno Museo do Tango ali e fiquei bastante curiosa para conhecer.
E para minha alegria e felicidade fiz uma visita guiada bastante agradável nesse pequeno museu!
Saber da história da famosa música La Cumparsita!
Muito interessante e vale a visita!
Fui ao Palácio Salvo e vi o pequeno Museo do Tango ali e fiquei bastante curiosa para conhecer.
E para minha alegria e felicidade fiz uma visita guiada bastante agradável nesse pequeno museu!

O museo del tango fica localizado na Plaza da Independência. O local é pequeno e bem organizado, pagamos um valor em torno de 20 reais pra entrar e a visita é rápida em torno de 30 min,

O Museu fica no famoso "Palácio Salvo", então vale a pena combinar as duas visitas. Esse é bem pequeno, mas muito rico em histórias e objetos de época.
Por 150 pesos você faz uma visita guiada (ao final pode tirar fotos à vontade e comprar algumas lembrancinhas), e aprende bastante sobre as origens do tango, principalmente da famosíssima "La Cumparsita", com direito a escutar a música numa vitrola antiga, pisando no mesmo salão onde esse tango foi tocado pela primeira vez. Pra quem quiser aulas de tango, pode pedir mais informações no balcão de entrada.
A visita dura em torno de 10-15min, então dá pra combinar com outros passeios numa boa, já que a Plaza Independencia tem várias outras atrações.

Our guide Paula was professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic! The museum is located on the site where tango was first danced in Montevideo. You feel the ambience in this well-designed space.
The tour is just 20-30 minutes, but so full of info! I can’t recommend this enough!
