I saw that this tour had excellent reviews but I was not prepared for just how good it was. Our guide Mak made the story of the siege come alive with his knowledge of history and current politics, and his personal testimony.
We visited many key areas of the city where we had full explanations of the significance of each place - seeing the Tunnel of Hope, sniper alley, and Serb sniper positions amongst others. I was really shocked at the very obvious difference in East Sarajevo - it was very clear unity wasn’t welcome.
Meeting instructions were given in full and the drive felt very safe at all times - despite Sarajevo road bungee jumping!
Mak’s own story and family history is heartbreaking, not made any easier by the current political situation in BiH.
I would thoroughly recommend this tour to gain an understanding of the siege, to remind those of us who have grown up in peace how lucky we are, and to make sure the memory of those killed or left with trauma in any form are not forgotten.

This was the best tour from the first first 9 days of our 23 day “Balkan Odyssey.” I am sure it will remain the best (or top 2!) after our visits to the next 5 countries. But among the tours so far in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina this one was excellent and exceed all expectations. It was essentially a private tour for our group of four and Mak drove us in a comfortable car to all the key locations in and around the city which brought to life the history that he so thoroughly and informatively, shared, with facts and personal anecdotes, that while sad in many cases, were priceless in providing not only an intellectual understanding of Sarajevos recent tragic history, but also, and most especially, an emotional and very human one. I had made an effort to study a bit of the complex history of the Balkans before coming, this in order to set a basic framework for our forthcoming experience, and during the first there days we had some general tours of Sarajevo’s Old Town and sites, and a day trip to Mostar, but the Roses of Sarajevo tour with Mak was the icing on the cake that put it all together for me, and I believe my travel companions as well. Do I recommend this tour? 1000%.The Balkans have much to teach the world both about how different people can live in peace, as well as, how horrible things can get when that peace is destroyed by evil men and the sheep who follow them. It is a stable but fragile peace that exists today, and it will take a long time to completely smooth out the tensions, but there IS peace at least, and there is rebuilding. I urge everyone to go to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Sarajevo in particular and contribute tot heir tourism development. And if you do, TAKE THIS TOUR. And while I imagine the company has other good guides, I further urge you to ask for Mak and you will not be disappointed.

I could not recommend this tour enough. It’s the most detailed and comprehensive tour I’ve ever been on. Mak is an exceptional guide with first hand experience of what it was like in Sarajevo at the time. He also gave us tips for the soccer match we went to later that night!

Mak was a phenomenal guide with extensive knowledge, personal stories and a lovely manner. We covered six centuries of history, political, social, physical and more from the ottomans, Austrian Hungarians, olympics, 91-95 war to the current date of play. Mak was happy to be asked questions and we felt like we got to see so many different aspects and areas of this complex and complicated city. Thank you - we would definitely recommend.

I would totally recommend this tour for anyone with little knowledge of the war with Serbia in the '90's and for the rest of us who thought we knew plenty from the news at the time but soon discovered we actually don't. Mak weaves a story of bravery, courage, and personal experieces of his family and others during the trauma experienced by the people of this beautiful city. Not to be missed!

Our guide Mak was so well informed, had a lovely manner and answered all our questions although he gave so much information there was little need for questions.

Had a fantastic tour this morning. Mak our guide was very knowledgeable over a wide ranging 4 hour tour. Great overview of the Seige of Sarajevo and of the Bosnian / Yugoslavian history that led to the war as well as to the current political and personal life in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Thanks for a great tour.

This was no pedestrian historical tour…. It was a unique and poignant journey through Sarajevo’s painful most devastating period shared through Mak’s personal story within the context of the siege and the subsequent political road to a longer prosperous peace for the people of Sarajevo and BH. The tour traversed the landmarks of Sarajevo (tunnel of hope, sniper alley, and to the surrounding hills) connecting the visuals with the narrative to provide a deeply moving appreciation of the painful reality experienced daily during the siege. And also the power of the human spirit through shared hope and perseverance. Without a doubt one of the best curated and informative tours I have had the pleasure to experience anywhere globally.
