The Čukur Fountain is a fountain and monument built to commemorate the Čukur Fountain incident when s dispute between a group of Ottoman soldiers and Serbs police ended with several dead including Serbian apprentice boy, who is the model of the sculpture on the fountain. The fountain is a rectangular column. On top of the column is the dead figure of a boy. A jug lies next to his hand. There's currently construction work, so the fountain is blocked and water isn't sprouting from the jug into the basin below.

[Ago 2019] Ho trovato questa fontana per caso e su qualche blog di viaggi così sono andato a visitarla e devo dire che non è niente di che, funzionante si ma sporca e mal curata.

On first approach it looks like a fairly normal (interesting) fountain,
with a forlorn figure depicted laying down, with water pouring out of a urn.
Usually our knowledge would stop there, (as the explanation is in Serbian), however,
being on a free walking tour, our guide told us the very sad story, of the figure (boy) depicted on the pedestal.

This monument was built to commemorate the Čukur Fountain incident of 15 June 1862, starting with the death of a young boy and growing into a conflict between Serbia and the Ottoman Empire.
The memorial fountain was erected in 1931.

Один из символов освобождения Белграда от турецкого ига. Очень выразительна фигура погибшего мальчика-серба, смерть которого и последующие кровавые события приблизили час освобождения Сербии. Бронзовая фигура в натуральную величину была похищена и распилена с целью сдачи цветного металла. В 2011 году фонтан-памятник был восстановлен. Улицы Добрачина совсем недалеко от центра.

Here in Dobracina street, there is a beautiful small fountain with the bronze statue of a boy on the top of it. You can find it, descending from the building of National Theater and passing across the Gospodar Jevremova str. The place is memorised in the connection with the event, that happened in 1862, when Turkish soldiers provoked the incident, that ended with fatal issue. One boy, who worked as the apprentice at the workshop of his master of craft, was sent to the fountain by his master to fetch the water. While a boy waited to fill up his jug, three Turkish soldiers approached him and asked to drink from his pitcher. After boy's refusal, they attacked him, as a matter of fact, one of the soldiers stabbed a boy with the bayonet or according to another version, a boy was hit with a full jug on his head.
After this tragic event the things rushed to the final liberation from the Osman rule.

Этот необычный фонтан установлен в память о печальном, но значимом для города Белграда историческом событии. Находится фонтан на малолюдной улицей, практически в центре города, примерно на полпути из района Скадарлия в район Дорчол. Аутентичная достопримечательность.

Cukur-fountain or in translation, deep fountain, and has a deep meaning for I Belgrade, historical significance. There is, to a large extent, determined the fate of this city. The whole event at Cukur-fountain has historical significance for Serbia because Turks are leaving after five vekova.Cukur fountain is the work of sculptor Simeon ROKSANDIC from 1922 as a model for a memorial fountain has served Vlastimir Petkovic Kepa, a former football player and peers murdered Save Petkovic.

The fountain is nice and not big. The beautiful sculpture, a boy with the broken jewer, was built by famous Serbian sculptor (I like his works :)) Simeon Roksandić. It is located close to Belgrade center (about 5 min walk), in Dobracina street. It is good for travelers that like to walk and visit Dorcol in Belgrade. I think that sculpture is very nice and specific, but I do not think that it is “must see” attraction, if someone does not have enough time.
The place has historical significance... As I know, the old fountain was important because it is the venue of a conflict between a Serbian boy (I think he was killed) and Turkish soldiers in 1862. This event instigated the shelling against Serbs. After that, these events instigated final liberation of Belgrade from the Turks.
