This charming house helps visitors understand the relative poverty of the wealthy classes in colonial America, presenting a rather charmingly underwhelming “luxury”. Beautifully restored with period furnishings, the almost cramped setting offers two floors of interesting stories, and the shameful relics of slavery. The tour is an hour long and conducted by highly knowledgeable and personable docents with connections to the estate.

My husband and I visited this house today. It was the best tour of a house I have ever taken. The person who gave the tour was very knowledgeable and full of anecdotes. I learned a lot and enjoyed it very much. I highly recommend it.

The docent for the tour provided many facts about the family's history who lived there. Some original furniture.. Had Christmas decorations. An interesting design of decorations and the house.

Excellent tour led by Paul Murphy, an experienced docent who touted the history and furnishings of Hammond-Harwood as if it were his own. Well worth the 1-1/4 hours.

Our tour (1 hour) was very nice and the docent was very well informed. A little more information about the family would have been nice (of course, there may not be much more known about them) . There is a large collection of Peale paintings which took up time during the tour. I wouldn't call this a must see, but it was interesting and for those who are history buffs, this would be a good stop.

Is there parking available on site? If not, where would the closest parking garage be? We are a garden club group from St. Mary's and have 3 handicap tags for our vehicles as we will be transporting 3 handicapped people. Thanks , Lynne Lansberg (1 of the drivers)
