The recently opened exhibition at the Mead Art Museum is vibrant and engaging. The exhibit titled Architectural Ghosts is educational and contains beautiful objects that tell multiple layers of stories. The 3-D replicas of objects invite children to touch and examine several of the works. However, I observed that the replicas equally invited adults to touch and explore. This a very well-done exhibit and I look forward to revisiting the Mead in the future.

In the heart of the Amherst College campus, this recently renovated museum has beautiful works from the Sumerians and Cycladic Greece to John Singer Sargeant. When I was there, it had a very creative exhibit on art inspired by scientific discoveries of the early 20th century. And it’s free!

Definitely suggest visiting the museum, it’s quick (maybe and hour to an hour & 1/2). A few nice pieces from Miro, Calder, Monet, Picasso and many more. It’s tucked into the Amherst College campus. Admission is free!

My wife and I were looking around the campus and did not expect to find such a nice art museum. It has a little of everything. In about 30 minutes we had seen enough.

I am a longtime Amherst resident and had never been here before. I gravitate towards 1700s and 1800s art and don't really like modern art, but the variety of artists here was interesting and entertaining. A pair of large paintings in the main room by Cole was my highlight as the same scene was painted centuries apart. Definitely worth a visit. Free.

While the collection was surprisingly small and didn’t seem to have a lot of depth or breadth, the pieces were very well curated to get the most interest out of them.

Small but interesting collection of American art including some contemporary art. The town of Amherst is very attractive, as is the college campus.

As others have indicated, you need to find the steeple on the far side of the quad when entering the quad. Some of the museum was closed due to exhibition installation. We did get to see an exhibit of women in art. One of my favorites from the permanent collection is "La Travail Interrompu" (a woman with cupid on shoulder).

This museum is small, but like so many college art museums they have some excellent works available for viewing.
It is not that easy to find. If you see a large stone church steeple, then just look behind it. The church is gone, but the magnificent steeple remains.
We liked the American art, and also the Russian art.
We were there at a time when they were transitioning to their Fall exhibits, so some areas where closed

The first challenges are to find it, in the College grounds but not particularly prominently marked (look for an old church spire) and get somewhere to park within half a mile.
Once inside you will get a friendly welcome and the opportunity to wander round in peace without interruption. The next challenge is getting to grips with the works on display which are mainly modern. Overblown ego trips or thought provoking works of art? Up to the visitor to decide.
Probably not for the lovers of, for example, Turner, but go in and have a look before deciding.
Admission free.
